The link building category of the SEOmoz blog is also helpful.

I would only look at your competitor links if you honestly feel your content is better than theirs.
I have previously tried looking at competitor links and found that a lot of juice was being passed on from high authority football websites due to the competitor having an invaluable widget for said website. Obviously contacting them for links was a waste of time.

Hi Adam,
I user open site explorer, there you can check the backlinks of your competitors and then you can create an excel.
Try to do the same that the best competitors on your sector.
Good Luck!

I suggest reading:

And also not being tricked by the various "WE WILL GET YOU LINKS FOR $45" Type of promotions that float around the web.

Link equity when merging product pages
Hi, our e-commerce website has just over 900 products. A vast majority are very unique and not similar to one another. However, early in our development, we listed similar variations separately. For example, we had a separate product listing for different color options: Black, Tan, and Green. They do not rank too great by themselves. However, the product is very popular and the search volume is near 9k a month. Our competitors have one listing with several color options, which is what we are proposing. We would enable 301 redirects from the Tan and Green options, which would redirect to the new variation listing. Is this wise? We want to capitalize on this opportunity, and apply this practice for other product listings.

Do Bit.ly links have SEO Value?
In looking at one of our competitors in Moz today, I noticed in their linking domains report showed a bit.ly link with a DA of 97. According to Moz this is a follow link as well. Should I be using bit.ly links to take advantage of their high domain? I was under the impression that bit.ly links were not considered backlinks. fRT2j5cRtXo3ARPq9

Noindex / Nofollow multiple reviews pages?
I have well over a hundred pages of reviews (10 per page). I know this is solid content and I'd hate to not be able to leverage it, but I'm running into the issue of having duplicate title tags and H1s on all of the pages. What's the best way to make use of the review content without have those types of issues? Is a noindex / nofollow strategy something I should be considering here for Page 2 and beyond? Thanks! Edit: I did additional digging into pagination strategies and found this terrific article on Moz. I'm thinking it should address my questions regarding review pages as well.

Shell we provide dofollow outbound links from our website?
Hello, I am little confused about providing dofollow links from our website. We have a social shopping website where users can create catalog of their favorite products by bookmarking them from other websites, so our website might have thousands of outbound links. Now the confusion is whether we should have these links "nofollow" or "dofollow"? As per my understanding dofollow links will pass juice to other websites but on the other hand it might benefit us as well, sellers might come and bookmark their products for getting dofollow links. I read somewhere that if we have quality outbound links around a topic, google treats us as hub for that topic. But I am not clear if we will get this advantage only when these links are dofollow? Please help.

Link Juice + multiple links pointing to the same page
Scenario
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
The website has a menu consisting of 4 links Home | Shoes | About Us | Contact Us Additionally within the body content we write about various shoe types. We create a link with the anchor text "Shoes" pointing to www.mydomain.co.uk/shoes In this simple example, we have 2 instances of the same link pointing to the same url location.
We have 4 unique links.
In total we have 5 on page links. Question
How many links would Google count as part of the link juice model?
How would the link juice be weighted in terms of percentages?
If changing the anchor text in the body content to say "fashion shoes" have a different impact? Any other advise or best practice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark0
