Do links behind paywalls pass value?

Hi - we are about to have a product review go live on a site that uses a paywall.
Will the link from this still pass SEO value to our site, and should we therefore optimise it?

A paywall is referring to content that is hidden behind a paid/membership system / member's only access. So if it's restricted to the bots, there's no SEO value.
It's like if you click on particular sections of SEOMoz, which are members only, they are not really open to the bots, in which case, there's no real direct traffic from Google hitting that page, so no SEO optimization needed. (Although there's a way to provide bots access to data behind your paywall and then it "could" be indexed. The question then becomes, would you want it indexed ?)

Anything that is restricted to the bots, not index-able...behind user/pass / paywalls can't be indexed (normally). So if that's the case, I would not worry about optimizing it for Search. It should still be optimized for users through :).

If its a do-follow link, and the page is indexed by Google (not hidden from Google), then it will pass value.

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. I have a lot of backlinks ending with .xyz, around 20%, and they look very suspicious. Should I disavow these? Value of a .edu or .gov link?
I am looking to hire a company to start a backlink campaign for me. In my search I have stumbled across one which essentially charges a good amount of money to secure backlinks on .edu and .gov sites ($500 per link). This would be in context links. This company is an SEOMOZ recommended company so I am thinking the links will be well earned and not simple paid for to the university as to prevent future issues. My question is, how can I put a value on these links for my website? Like lets says I have a DA of 1 right now, and I get one backlink with DA of 70 PA of 70, how will that effect my DA? How can I quantify how many .edu .gov links I will need before I start to place? I realize I will need some more mixed up there so it does not seem unnatural, but my business has a lot to do with universities and government entities. I am trying to figure out how I can calculate the value of these links to me

Footer Links And Link Juice
I'm starting to learn about link juice and notice in GWMT > Traffic > Internal Links, that the list is in this order by the links counted on each page. Some are in the footer and some are in the header, with some being more important than others commercially i.e. /register /privacy /terms /search /sitemap /disclaimer /blog /register So I am wondering if I should add a 'no-follow' attribute to the footer links i.e. privacy, terms, disclaimer and leave the others as they are? Does this help retain link juice on each page where the links appear? Or am I missing the point all together? This is my website: http://goo.gl/CN0e5

Hi everyone, I just started working for a client in a new niche. After reviewing the backlink profiles of his competitors I can see that the top sites are using a ton of link exchanges. They are from really spammy sites too. The kind that will link to anyone that provides a link back. Anyone else seeing much of this?
