Any Tool to check what websites bring the most traffics to my competitor?
-
Our competitor has alexa ranking 1329 in UK but we are only ranked 36,147
However, They are not ranking extremely well on google. Sometimes we rank higher than them on some of the keywords.
Therefore they must have some good referral traffics from other websites.
Is there any tool i can use to track what websites bring them traffics?

Honestly Alexa, Compete or Quantcast all are the estimators and can be seriously wrong at times... I think there is no tool that can give you the exact data of traffic (this is the real beauty of the online marketing) but there are several things like organic rankings, what estimated traffic they can get and how they are performing in PPC and some other data can be found through tools like Keyword Spy and SEM Rush!

Quantcast and Compete are good

Looking at acquiring a competitor with a high organic ranking (WordPress Plugin)
I'm looking at acquiring a competitor who operates a WordPress plugin with the same function as mine (although ours is much better - they used this plugin to acquire leads for other software). We're trying to determine the best way to execute it. They are the number 1 result on a very high value search, and the number 3 on another (which appears to the source of all their customer acquisition, they are simply a very well named, long existing WordPress plugin, and so haven't had to fight much to keep their ranking). Ideally, we'd be able to take over that ranking, but I'm not sure if that is possible. For one thing, they don't have a website beyond the WordPress plugin, so even if we wanted to, we couldn't 301 redirect it (as far as I know). Second, wouldn't a 301 redirect likely result in entirely losing the ranking? We are actually highly relevant to anyone who ends up at this plugin (the owner has actually been recommending us and contacted us because his customers who have left have had a good experience), and wouldn't be redirecting it to piggyback on the link juice, we'd be trying to acquire the customers that have been discovering this plugin organically. I understand why Google defaults to policies making purchasing high ranking domains not very valuable. However, it seems like if you've built a company that derives a high volume of its leads (and thus acquisition value) from organic search, that there would be a way for a company in the same space to acquire at least the rankings, if not the link juice. Hopefully that was clear, if not, let me know where I lost you, and I'll attempt to clarify. Thanks!

Does my website need a search bar?
We're redesigning our agency website and during development we noticed our current design doesn't feature a mock up for a search bar. It was a simple oversight, but it got me thinking how valuable it really is. I noticed the Moz blog doesn't have a search bar (unless I'm blind) and was wondering who else has made the decision to get rid of it. We have a blog of almost 400 posts over the course of three years, unsure if that sways the decision in either direction. Is it better to just focus on good SEO instead of relying on a search bar nowadays? Opinions appreciated!

Why has our site had a huge spike in referral traffic?
Starting last week, our site had a HUGE spike in referral traffic from: search.dnsassist.verizon.net. We have never had a visit from there until last week, and had 12K visits last week so something is happening. The traffic does look normal though, all visits were in the US from 700 cities and pages/visit, avg visit duration and bounce rate are close to site average. There is a few other referral sites that showed up last week as well: wind.search-help.net, uslc.search-help.net, finder.cox.net. All of these sites are low, around 30 to 50 visits a day, but we had not any referrals until last week. I did notice most of these sites state "Explore with Yahoo Search." Just wondering if anyone has every seen this before and wondering what is happening. Thanks for reading. <colgroup><col width="207"></colgroup>

Linking within a website advice please
Hi i am working on my site which is a lifestyle magazine and i have been reading about using linking within your own website to help you climb up the search engines. Now i am trying to find out if this is correct information and if so which is the best way to use this. I have an example page below, as stated i am still working on the site and the site will still take me a few more weeks yet. http://www.in2town.co.uk/news/soap-gossip/eastenders-fans-not-happy-over-tanya-plot Now if it is correct that linking from within a site is a good way to climb the search engines, i would like to know how i would do it for this page. I am looking at climbing the search engines for soap gossip and celebrity news. I was thinking should i have a line at the bottom saying something like for all the latest celebrity news visit our site or something like this. any advice would be great
