KML File vs. KMZ File
-
When should you use a KMZ file? What are the benefits to using a KMZ file as opposed to just a standalone KML file?
-
Sorry, I meant to respond to this days ago. Started, but didn't finish and then it left my mind.
It sounds to me like you want to place a Google map on your site to show the location of the business? If this is correct, I wouldn't use KML nor KMZ. I would just use a javascript point market that represents the one location using the Google Maps API. You can see what I mean as I have several points on one site I'm finishing up at http://www.snoshield.com/contest/christmas2012
You can also show service area like this: http://www.kcdirt.com/contact
Both of those maps use strictly JavaScript, there is no KML or KMZ on them.

Thanks for the feedback! Are you saying that the KMZ file is for when you have more than one location for a particular business/domain? If you only have one business location, would a KML be ideal as it relates to local SEO exposure? We work with independent hotels. Therefore, locally speaking, what do you feel is the best strategy regarding site maps?

I'm not sure if you are referencing SEO in this post, but here's the breakdown from my experience (Several years in the GIS realm)
KMZ when you have a lot of markers in the map making the file size is large and you know the end user will use a Google product to read it.
KML if you are needing to read the file with a program outside of Google due to incompatibility issues with the KMZ format in other programs.

Content strategy for landing pages: Topics vs Features
Hi all, We are going to create new landing pages and optimise existing pages. We have a confusion on how to employ content on these pages....whether these will be filled with content to rank for "topics" and "keywords" or direclty jump into the features are are providing. If we go with first, users may feel boring about teaching them about that topic, if we go with latter...it's hard to rank being no related content to rank for that topic. I have seen some of the websites are employing multiple landing pages where they fill with topic related content and then link to features pages. I need suggestions here. Thank you

Adding non-important folders to disallow in robots.txt file
Hi all, If we have many non-important folders like /category/ in blog.....these will multiply the links. These are strictly for users who access very rarely but not for bots. Can we add such to disallow list in robots to stop link juice passing from them, so internal linking will me minimised to an extent. Can we add any such paths or pages in disallow list? Is this going to work pure technical or any penalty? Thanks, Satish

Confused about PageSpeed Insights vs Site Load for SEO Benefit?
I was comparing sites with a friend of mine, and I have a higher PageSpeed Insights score for mobile and desktop than he does, but he his google analytics has his page load speed higher than. So assuming all things equal, some quality of conent, links, etc, is it better to have a site with a higher PageSpeed score or faster site load? To me, it makes more sense for it to be the latter, but if that's true, what's the point of the PageSpeed insights? Thanks for your help! I appreciate it. Ruben

Www vs nonwww domain
Since about 5 years out site was launched as "www.example.com" but last June 2012, we relaunched new design but somehow went without www subdmain - "http://example.com". We didn't check that time but now find duplicate pages and very confused what next. Please answer: Do search engines penalize for the change of domain name? www.example.com vs example.com? How can go back (or, should we really?) to www.example.com? I did redirect .htaccess rewrite from nonwww to www - but now our site is launched as without www. Confused so Please advise ASAP. Thanks a Million

Seperate Blog vs Blog in Site
Hello, When is it useful to have a blog as an external entity, versus a blog embedded in an ecommerce site. My thoughts lean towards making it part of the site to build new content, but I'm open to suggestions.

Choosing domain name - ccTLD vs Vanity URL
I have to choose between a country specific domain name that is long and difficult to remember, vs or a .me domain which is short and contains the exact keywords I'm optimising for. The challenge is that I'm only targeting local search traffic for the service I am advertising. Does a country specific domain name have any benefits in terms of weighting when I'm only interested in traffic from that country?
