Couldn't find the answer to my question anywhere so I'll give it a try here.

If you have a site called www.example.com, and then want to add a keyword to this site, like this: www.example.com/keyword

How do you add a keyword to your url like this? Without making the URL with the keyword your "main" URL, meaning you don't have to enter the keyworded URL to get to the homepage (www.example.com), and still rank better on the keyword put in the url.

I'm a bit confused on the subject, would love for someone to help me understand!

    Thanks.

I hope I am not hijacking this post with this question....if I am - I'm sorry.

My website is www.enchantingquotes.com.  I sell wall quotes and "wall quotes" is the keyword that brings me most of my business.   Moz Analytics is suggesting  "Use Keywords in your URL".  I understand how to do this for adding a new page or category.  What I need to know is how do I do it for my main page (so that my url reads enchantingwallquotes.com - I also own that domain).  Any help is hugely appreciated 🙂

        Hi Daniel,

To add to what David said....

Look at the URL of this page that we are on now: http://www.seomoz.org/q/adding-keyword-to-your-url

Our CMS automatically generates the URL from the title of the question. Additionally, this also becomes part of the title tag. Many blogging platforms like Wordpress allow you to customize the URLs of your posts.

              Alright.

But, looked at a WBF with Rand and he said something like: "Use targeted keywords in the url string . This adds relevancy for rankings, assists searchers/users identifying the page content/topic when viewing url, provides value when used as the anchor text/referral link."

So what he is saying here is that I should have keywords in my url for sub pages when possible? And not the home page.

The home page doesnt have a keyword in it only the sub pages do.

so you home page is www.example.com and the page that is about keyword is www.example.com/keyword

                Hope this helps

When you add a new page to your site you are adding www.example.com/NewPage

What Should be the URL of third party blog for my website

Hi All, What Should be the URL of third party blog for my website. Lets say if i have a website xyz.com (which provide pest control services in New York City) and I want to create third party blogs on platforms like blogspot, weebly etc so should i create the blog url as xyz.blogspot.com or i can use a keyword in the blog URL such as pestcontrolnyc.blogspot.com? Which URL would be the best as per Google's guidelines. Note: I have already have a blog within the domain as xyz.com/blog/ and i do weekly posting on this blog. But at the same time i want to create 1-2 third party blogs to get some backlinks from other sources.

                    Reversing Canonical URLs?

A few months back, we set up canonical URLs on some pages with duplicate content to give some newer pages more link juice. Now, we need to do the opposite and give that same juice to some of the original pages. If we set up canonical URLs on the newer pages to point back to the original pages, are we losing the juice we've been building all along? Sorry for all this convoluted juice talk. Hopefully, my point is getting across here.

Targeting City Geo-tags/Keywords for Clients with Multiple Locations

Hey everyone! What methods are best to use for SEO campaigns working with 1 website for a company which has 2, 3, 4, or more locations in order to get keywords for their services to rank well... in all their location cities? I feel we know the answer could be any one of the below notes, however, it's always nice to learn more about what all you other SEO's are doing or have done which saw success. Please note: We have heard about building microsites on sub-domains example city.domainname.com/keyword-or-service
We have heard about building sections off the root domain such as domainname.com/city/keyword-or-service
We have heard about just pushing more content to the blog which can target a wider range of keywords and cities
We have heard about building a new site for each city location replicating the main website and swapping out content for 100% originality
We have heard about just building more and more backlinks with different anchor text using the cities in the anchor text Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from some other experts facing these same challenges!

Site URL called out but not clickable.

Hi - I'm after a bit of clarity; if my site URL is referenced in an article, but doesn't actually link through, does this still 'add value' to my seo efforts? Thanks, David
