How do you archive content?
-
In this video from Google Webmasters about content, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8s6Y4mx9Vw around 0:57 it is advised to "archive any content that is no longer relevant".
My question is how do you exactly do that? By adding noindex to those pages, by removing all internal links to that page, by completely removing those from the website?
How do you technically archive content?
-
Hard to say what is meant by that video. Often, Google is purposely vague.
If the content is truly no longer relevant, I would 301 it to more relevant URLs on a page by page basis. This will remove low performing pages from Google's index, and potentially improve your rankings.
On the other hand, if the content still has value but doesn't need to be front and center, a clearly organized archive based on date or some other organizational method should work fine.

Hi Sorina,
Archiving is more about classifying information/content that is either outdated or not being accessed that frequently by the visitors into a separate section on your site. I would not no index those pages because they might be ranking well in the search engines and still be getting traffic to the site. You can do this creating an "archives" section on your site so that if the visitors want to access the old content on your site they can still do so by accessing that section.
Here is a useful post on archiving content on your site

How to deal with URLs and tabbed content
Hi All, We're currently redesigning a website for a new home developer and we're trying to figure out the best way to deal with tabbed content in the URL structure. The design of the site at the moment will have a page for a development and within that you can select your house type, then when on the house type page there will be tabs displayed for the user to see things like the plot map, availability and pricing, specifications, etc. The way our development team are looking at handling this is for the URL to use a hashtag or a query string at the end of it so we can still land users on these specific tabs for PPC for example. My question is really, has anyone had any experience with this? Any recommendations on how to best display the urls for SEO? Thanks

Duplicate content on sites from different countries
Hi, we have a client who currently has a lot of duplicate content with their UK and US website. Both websites are geographically targeted (via google webmaster tools) to their specific location and have the appropriate local domain extension. Is having duplicate content a major issue, since they are in two different countries and geographic regions of the world? Any statement from Google about this? Regards, Bill

Does Google bot read embedded content?
Is embedded content "really" on my page? There are many addons nowadays that are used by embedded code and they bring the texts after the page is loaded. For example - embedded surveys. Are these read by the Google bot or do they in fact act like iframes and are not physically on my page? Thanks

Is an RSS feed considered duplicate content?
I have a large client with satellite sites. The large site produces many news articles and they want to put an RSS feed on the satellite sites that will display the articles from the large site. My question is, will the rss feeds on the satellite sites be considered duplicate content? If yes, do you have a suggestion to utilize the data from the large site without being penalized? If no, do you have suggestions on what tags should be used on the satellite pages? EX: wrapped in tags? THANKS for the help. Darlene

Copying my Facebook content to website considered duplicate content?
I write career advice on Facebook on a daily basis. On my homepage users can see the most recent 4-5 feeds (using FB social media plugin). I am thinking to create a page on my website where visitors can see all my previous FB feeds. Would this be considered duplicate content if I copy paste the info, but if I use a Facebook social media plugin then it is not considered duplicate content? I am working on increasing content on my website and feel incorporating FB feeds would make sense. thank you
