Order of importance

Hi,
From the screenshot below I have signed up to "Plan 1". I am not happy with the company and think I can do this better myself using SEOMoz. My questions are. Ignoring the one off tasks listed.
Which of the Monthly tasks is the most important, which is the second most important etc?
Is there any that can be ignored or are any now detrimental to SEO?
Is there anything that is not on the list that maybe there should be?
In summary I am trying to workout how hard and how much time and effort it will take to go it alone using SEOMoz for guidance?
In case the screenshot doesn't show, below is the Monthly tasks I get on my Plan.
5 x Themed Link Building (min PR2)
10 x Directory Submissions
4 x Blogs
250 words Content Copywriting
1 x Article syndicated 50 times

I wouldn't forget about articles completely, just make them compelling and only market them on proper blogs or websites, not article directories etc.
Invoicing itself may not be that compelling, but invoicing is an integral part of any online business. Therefore, it is not too much of a leap for the user or especially Google for you to produce engaging content on business practices, small business advice etc. Business advice could be a huge market to explore. There won't be a problem producing content across the business niche for a company offering your product, I wouldn't think.
The algorithm itself does not differentiate between "exciting" or boring content, but it will take notice of social signals (which are more likely to be present in engaging content) and will also take notice of a page with rich media, such as images or videos.

Thanks for the response. So I am 100% clear, what you are saying. Would this be a good plan of attack? Get the site A graded by SEOMoz tools. Forget about directory submissions unless they are top notch. Forget about articles totally. Once the site is A graded concentrate on the Blog content and make it a) interesting to our users b) add keywords into the blog as per LSI blog writing techniques.
Incidentally we are an online invoicing company which is a fairly dull subject to blog about, any ideas how to make our blog interesting? And is it more important that google finds it "interesting" from a SEO point of view rather than humans?

No worries Andrew. Here's my feedback.
You would be able to do this per month quite easily. The problem is that you shouldn't do any of it. At least not in this matter.
Directory submissions - I would can altogether. The value of the link you will get from a directory is already weak, but what we have seen in 2013 so far are a lot of directory links being devalued. Taking the time, and possibly money, to submit to directories is just a waste to me. It's a favourite of bad companies because it is quick and scalable. You should remember that there are no quick wins in SEO, or at least very few of them.
If you absolutely must use directories, have a look at the SEOMoz directory list. Look for the ones that specialise in your niche/industry.
"Themed Link Building" - I don't even know what that would entail. The fact they are judging it by PR, an outdated, inaccurate and easily manipulated metric, worries me quite a lot.
Article syndication - just no. It reeks of laziness, duplicate content and will offer little to no value whatsoever.
If I were you, I'd concentrate with your website first. Ensure that everything is in order with your own house and that you're targeting the right keywords before you continue. Here are some really useful audits you can carry out:

I mentioned before that there aren't many quick wins when building links. If there are any to be found, you can definitely find some at PointBlankSEO. Read their Link Building Resources guide and also the complete link building strategy guide. Both are extremely detailed and the second link also includes a tool that gives the estimated time for completion, which could be useful for you.
After that, I'd always look at producing some great content, both for your own site and for guest publications. Make your website exceptional by producing content for your industry that has never been seen before. Keep your best content on your own site. If you're looking for content partners, don't look at PR. Don't even look at PA/DA. Look at how engaged their audience is, how active they are on social media and relevant it is to your industry. MyBlogGuest is a quick stop for some resources, but you'll have more luck jumping into the communities where your audience appears, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. Identify key influencers in your industry via FollowerWonk and strike up a genuine connection.
This is just a brief summary, but I hope these links help set you on your way.

Sudden inexplicable drop in important keywords
I have been running around in small circles trying to work out why, after a year of careful SEO my companies site has suddenly dropped for all it's main keywords out of the first page to the second or third in our weekly report. One theory was that five backlinks with a spam rating of 10 might have had an impact - these have been removed, but I have been advised that these may not have been the cause. Our crawl diagnostics remain squeaky clean. I add one, carefully checked and optimized (as per Moz recommendations) blog posts once a week and nothing has been changed other than that. We have slowly and carefully built up a good backlink profile, but as well as the drop in rankings our weekly report also showed that we lost 109 backlinks from the previous week. I have not been able to find out what I could possibly have done wrong! I've checked all our crawl reports and webmaster tools and nothing has been flagged up. I did discover, whilst typing in some longtail keyword phrases that our preview site URLs as well as our live site URLs appeared in SERPs. I checked with our web agency who assured me that this was fine, but that they had put a redirect on these yesterday. I thought this was a bit strange as that seems odd as we have been live for a year. I guess my question is could the fact that these redirects have not been active (until yesterday) have any bearing on what has happened or is this completely unrelated? Importance of minimal markup on a page
Moz.com's 2013 SEO study gave some value to "Total # of Characters in the HTML Code" (https://moz.com/search-ranking-factors/2013). Is having minimal HTML on a page still a ranking factor, even if not a huge one?

Do I have to many internal links which is diluting link juice to less important pages
Hello Mozzers, I was looking at my homepage and subsequent category landing pages on my on my eCommerce site and wondered whether I have to many internal links which could in effect be diluting link juice to much of the pages I need it to flow. My homepage has 266 links of which 114 (43%) are duplicate links which seems a bit to much to me. One of my major competitors who is a national company has just launched a new site design and they are only showing popular categories on their home page although all categories are accessible from the menu navigation. They only have 123 links on their home page. I am wondering whether If I was to not show every category on my homepage as some of them we don't really have any sales from and only concerntrate on popular ones there like my competitors , then the link juice flowing downwards in the site would be concerntated as I would have less links for them to flow ?... Is that basically how it works ? Is there any negatives with regards to duplicate links on either home or category landing page. We are showing both the categories as visual boxes to select and they are also as selectable links on the left of a page ? Just wondered how duplicate links would be treated? Any thoughts greatly appreciated thanks Pete

Rebranding/Changing the name of an established domain in order to target a bigger market?
So let's say I have a site called "ToyotaParts.com" that has good SEO metrics and is ranking highly for keywords like "toyota tires", "toyota battery", etc.... What if I decide that I wanna target other cars as well with my site and keywords like "mazda tires", yet still want to take advantage of my domain's existing authority... Can I do something like get a new domain like "carparts.com" and redirect the old domain to it and then continue to create new pages that would target new keywords, or would I risk losing my current domain's authority or running into other seo issues? Should I use selected Keywords in Meta Title of non important pages
Hi All, I have identified 2 main keywords that I want a website to be found for 1: Alarm Systems 2: Security Systems I have two relevant landing pages set up and optimised for these terms and I have also optimised the home page for these terms I have countless other pages on the website that I don't really need to optimise such as Distributor Benefits or Supplier Benefits, About Us etc My question is should I use my selected keywords (alarm systems, security systems) in the Meta Title on these non important pages or should I just use them on the selected landing pages and home page? Historically I have used my primary keywords on all non important pages but not sure if Google looks down on this now. Thanks Robbie

Is traffic and content really important for an e-commerce site???
Hi All, I'm maintaining an e-commerce website and I've encountered some related keywords that I know will not convert to sales but are related to the subject and might help becoming an "authority". I'll give an example... If a car dealership wrote an amazing article about cleaning a car.

Obviously it is related but the chances of someone looking to clean his car will go ahead and buy one now are quite low. Also, he will probably bounce out of this page after reading the piece. Duplicate content via dynamic URLs where difference is only parameter order?
I have a question about the order of parameters in an URL versus duplicate content issues. The URLs would be identical if the parameter order was the same. E.g.

www.example.com/page.php?gender=male&size=large&color=red How smart is Google at consolidating these, and do these consolidated pages incur any penalty (is their combined “weight” equal to their individual selves)? Does Google really see these two pages as DISTINCT, or does it recognize that they are the same because they have the exact same parameters? Is this worth fixing in or does it have a trivial impact? If we have to fix it and can't change our CMS, should we set a preferred, canonical order for these URLs or 301 redirect from one version to the other? Thanks a million!0
