Is commenting on other peoples blogs / articles good for seo?
-
Hello everyone,
Just a quick question, say if I find some websites which are relevant to my service and they have articles I can comment on and include my URL , will these help for SEO? The websites also have a good PR rating higher than 3 does this count towards anything?
Would these links be classed 'follow' or 'nofollow' links - could something please explain what this means aswell.
Thanks very much!

just because it may or maynot help with search rankigns doesn't mean those links and comments won't drive traffic. if you add a valuable comment to the blog then people are likely to click through from that site to your own, its not just about rankings

When a site links to another it passes that site some of its authority and SEO benefit. Only links that are 'follow' will do this, a nofollow link will not. These values are set by the site owner, often on blogs etc all links are set to nofollow to avoid comment spam where people are trying to get links to their site.
If your comments and links are relevant and add value to an article by all means comment and drop a link, you will be able to check if they are no follow or not to. This post by Rand, although not written to answer this specific question, is useful to illustrate the difference between these links and their relationship in passing link juice.
A higher domain authority site as a rule of thumb is generally better yes, but there are other important factors involved that Google will take into account, then there are considerations about having a link in the comments section as opposed to elsewhere on a page. Again i recommend a read through this post by Rand, Not all links are created equal.
The two articles above should help familiarise yourself with the nuances of link building and the more advanced issues, but if you would like a simple yes no answer then yes, leaving a link in the comments section of a article that is a follow link, can help your SEO. But use this tactic as one part of a balanced link building strategy.

It depends if there is a follow/no follow link. Google doesn't follow "no follow" links. If you submit links then check in open site explorer you can see whether there is a no follow link on something.
If you are writing good answers and adding a URL to your site for more relevant info then you may drive traffic to the site anyway

Is there any SEO value of an HTML Sitemap, or is it strictly UI/UX?
We have an xml sitemap that generates daily, and our site and navigation is strong. Is there any added SEO value in either the links, or content of an html sitemap? I only see answers from several years ago so not sure if things have changed that would increase or decrease the importance. Thanks

Adding backlinks in old articles?
I am trying to get a few more links to get a few of my pages to rank and I am thinking about adding some more backlinks on my own site on some of the old blog articles as well as some of my other related blogs. My question is - is it still beneficial to link from these articles that are say 1 year old or more, or would it be far more valuable to write new articles on the blog containing those same links?

Separate blog url helpful?
I am managing a website for a hotel brokerage firm. The main URL is www.hotelassetsgroup.com but we started a new blog with the URL www.hotelsforsaleblog.com. We chose the blog URL because it has the words "hotels for sale." The main website has a tab at the top titled "Blog" which links to the blog URL. I am not sure if this is helping us or not because the main URL and blog URL are both competing for the name of the business "Hotel Assets Group." The blog has very little interlinking within the same URL because it mainly links to the main website. Should we combine the two URLs together and just have the blog URL be the same like- hotelassetsgroup.com/blog or something like that?

Blog commenting
Is this still a good way of getting backlinks? I do not plan on making it my only method. Most of my backlinking is done through content creation, press releases, and guest blogging. But looking for some variety in there that can be done quicker. Is it even worth the time or are the links too spammy now? If I did I would actually hand build the links and comment to the article.

Link Directories - Good or bad?
I've just done a search on open site explorer for a competitors site that has is ranked number one. Most of their highest authority backlinks are from link directories. I just read an article on here saying to stay away from directories that state things like 'seo friendly directory'. Many of my competitors links are from these kind of sites! Will it harm me to get links from such sites? It seems to be working for my competitors.... confused.com!

Dofollow Blog Comments
I wanna buy dofollow comments, can be there any negative effects? I understand that is a kind of a black hat seo, but i saw many sites who used this type of service and get boosted in the search engine ranking.

Blog commenting
I have been doing a little bit of testing in regards to blog commenting on high authority blogs that no follow comments. The comments have all been manual and added value to the blog. I have noticed quite a big jump in rankings for some keywords. I was wondering if anyone else has a view on the effectiveness of these links when combined with other link building methods?
