Trying a completely new design on our .co.uk should I have it on a different IP to my .com
-
We have just relaunched http://www.gobananas.co.uk/ and made the site much smaller than .com and dissallowed robots on 98% of the site. The goal with this site is to get users to use the search facility rather than go through our menus like we have on .com
Should I host the UK site on a different IP number to the .com?Thanks
-
You can but you don't have to. There is a small benefit to having a ccTLD on an IP that has a reverse DNS to that country. The main reason to have a different IP, however, is different demographics. If your .com is aimed at the US market then it needs to be hosted in the US because it lowers latency. Same with your UK market, your Austrailian market, etc. Lower latency is better. That doesn't mean you HAVE to do it. You can host all of it in the US and still rank well. It just doesn't have those extra signals so it's a bit more work, but not greatly more-so than setting up these different IPs.

Wordpress Plugin To Capture Form Completion Data, Before Visitor Hits "Submit"?
Greetings MOZ Community: Visitors frequently start to enter contact information in the forms on our website, but then chicken out and don't hit the submit button. I noticed this watching the recordings of visitor web site visits using Mouse Flow. Is there a Wordpress Plugin that would allow us to capture data entered in forms, where the visitor does not finally hit the "submit" button? Obviously this would be very, very valuable as this scenario occurs in one out of three or four instances. Thanks!!!

Blog.yoursite.com or yoursite.com/blog/?
Rand made the following post in 2009. In July of 2013 I question whether this is still best practice. Obviously, much has changed in our industry in four-and-a-half years! "...if you're seeking to maximize your ranking ability for a given piece of content, it's my personal belief that you should, most of the time, keep it on 1 subdomain under 1 root domain (but feel free to use subfolders as it makes sense). Starting a blog? I almost always recommend yoursite.com/blog over blog.yoursite.com. Want to launch a new section of content? Use yoursite.com/newstuff rather than newstuff.yoursite.com." What is the best way to point newly built website on new domain name to the original more well known domain?
Live website on abc.com domain is being totally redone and moved to a new platform. to facilitate full testing and compliance, the new look and content was built on a different url - xyz.com for example. Now that all content is approved and testing, we want people visiting the abc.com domain to see the xyz.com website without necessarily redirecting abc.com to xyz.com What is the best to do this? Thanks all

Preserve Rankings When Switching to a New Site
Hello community! I have a quick question for you regarding preserving my SERPs once I switch a development site to replace the current production site. Basically, we are switching to a new CMS and will be featuring the same content, architectural layout, URL structure, etc. Again, the only difference is that it's going to be on a new CMS. Upon switching to the new version of the site, what would be the best strategy for making sure we preserve our rankings for content already ranking highly within the search engines? Likewise, is there anything additional we may be able to do right-off-the-bat in order to assist content that may not be ranking highly in the SERPs, rank more highly?

Best Ways to Handle a Website for Different Country Locations?
Currently our website is being redesigned into a CMS for our Headquarters in the US. We have three other locations. Germany, UK and Australia. Each Location has there own domain and hosting in there designated country. How safe will it be to upload our New Headquarters site to each of our different locations? I would like to stay uniform throughout. The content would be similar, but translated to the correct language. And some of the products would be different. Will this be a pretty easy process and will this cause any duplication issues? Are there any suggestions or MUST DO's for localization websites? The website is being designed with Wordpress and Magento as a custom CMS.
