Google is indexing blocked content in robots.txt
-
Hi,Google is indexing some URLs that i don't want to be indexed and also is indexing the same URLs with https. This URLs are blocked in the file robots.txt.I've tried to block this URLs through Google WebmasterTools but Google doesn't let me do it because this URL are httpsThe file robots.txt is correct so, what can i do to avoid this content to be indexed?

I think you will find that the URL´s in Google´s index are either:
- indexed prior to putting in the robots.txt disallow in place - check in the google serp and click on "in cache" to see the date.
- Heavily linked to by other external domains.
- Both of the above.
@cleverphd has a great solution. Follow that.

This will sound backwards but it works.
-
Add the meta noindex tag to all pages you want out of the index.
-
Take those same pages out of the robots.txt and allow them to be crawled.
The meta noindex tells Google to remove the page from the index. It is preferred over using robots.txt

The robot.txt - blocks Google from crawling the page, but things can still show up if there are other pages linking to the page you are trying to remove.

You have to allow Google to crawl the pages (by taking them out of the robots.txt) so it can read the noindex meta tags that then tell Google to take them out of the index.

Thank you, but that is not the problem. The file robots.txt is done since a long time ago.

It seems you have added/modified Robot.txt file later. Wait for some time, Say 15 days.
Also ensure syntax for robot.txtRegards,

Robots.txt on http vs. https
We recently changed our domain from http to https. When a user enters any URL on http, there is an global 301 redirect to the same page on https. I cannot find instructions about what to do with robots.txt. Now that https is the canonical version, should I block the http-Version with robots.txt? Strangely, I cannot find a single ressource about this...

Robots.txt Question
In the past, I had blocked a section of my site (i.e. domain.com/store/) by placing the following in my robots.txt file: "Disallow: /store/" Now, I would like the store to be indexed and included in the search results. I have removed the "Disallow: /store/" from the robots.txt file, but approximately one week later a Google search for the URL produces the following meta description in the search results: "A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt – learn more" Is there anything else I need to do to speed up the process of getting this section of the site indexed?

How to add a disclaimer to a site but keep the content accessible to search robots?
Hi, I have a client with a site regulated by the UK FSA (Financial Services Authority). They have to display a disclaimer which visitor must accept before browsing. This is for real, not like the EU cookie compliance debacle 🙂 Currently the site 302 redirects anyone not already cookied (as having accepted) to a disclaimer page/form. Do you have any suggestions or examples of how to require acceptance while maintaining accessibility? I'm not sure just using a jquery lightbox would meet the FSA's requirements, as it wouldn't be shown if JS was not enabled. Thanks, -Jason

How to allow one directory in robots.txt
Hello, is there a way to allow a certain child directory in robots.txt but keep all others blocked? For instance, we've got external links pointing to /user/password/, but we're blocking everything under /user/. And there are too many /user/somethings/ to just block every one BUT /user/password/. I hope that makes sense... Thanks!

Mobile Google Not Indexing Mobile Website
Google currently does not index our mobile website. It has the WWW website in it's index. When a user from a mobile phone clicks on a mobile search result for WWW we redirect them to our mobile website. This is posing problems for us as our mobile website is a fraction of the # of pages/sections as our WWW. So for example, mobile search results show that we have a "careers" section; but that's not the case for the mobile website. As a result a user gets a 404. How do we force mobile Google to index our mobile website instead of our WWW?

Duplicate Content from Google URL Builder
Hello to the SEOmoz community! I am new to SEOmoz, SEO implementation, and the community and recently set up a campaign on one of the sites I managed. I was surprised at the amount of duplicate content that showed up as errors and when I took a look in deeper, the majority of errors were caused by pages on the root domain I put through Google Analytics URL Builder. After this, I went into webmaster tools and changed the parameter handling to ignore all of the tags the URL Builder adds to the end of the domain. SEOmoz recently recrawled my site and the errors being caused by the URL Builder are still being shown as duplicates. Any suggestions on what to do?
