Should I change the URL now?
-
Hi all,
I have a client website that got hit in the latest algorithm update. It since appears that it had over 100 suspect links to it.
I performed the Disavow procedure a few weeks ago via my Google Webmaster account, but have not received a message yet to say its been actioned.
The majority of these suspect links go to one page. I am considering changing the base category (in Wordpress) to a different keyphrase and then submitting a new sitemap for indexing. This way there will be no actual link from a suspect website to a page on my website. Do you see what I mean?
Will this help do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I'm with Federico - 100 doesn't seem like a ton, unless your total link profile is very small. I'm not clear on what you're trying to accomplish with changing the category in WordPress - is it the category page that's a problem? If the links are all to one page and you can live without that page, you could let it 404. If it's a category page, then yes, I guess you could change the URL. Just don't 301-redirect the old URL to the new one, in this case, because you'd carry the links and any penalty.
If this was something like Penguin, you'd still have to wait for a data refresh. If it's a manual penalty, you'd need reconsideration. So, even total removal may not instantly fix the situation.

100 bad links is not bad at all. Unless those are ALL the links you have. If you sent the disavow file and submitted a reconsideration request, wait for their respond. They claim the respond to 100% percent of the requests, but it can take over 2 weeks (on my own experience).
Did you get a manual penalty warning? Or you just doing the disavow and reconsideration just a percussion? Because if there was no manual penalty, you shouldn't be using the reconsideration request, instead, after disavowing those bad links you should focus on creating content for the purpose of link earning (valuable links).
Hope that helps.

URL has caps, but canonical does not. Now what?
Hi, Just started working with a site that has the occasional url with a capital, but then the url in the canonical as lower case. Neither, when entered in a browser, resolves to the other. It's a Shopify site. What do you think I should do?

Resubmit sitemaps on every change?
Hello Mozers, Our sitemaps were submitted to Google and Bing, and are successfully indexed. Every time pages are added to our store (ecommerce), we re-generate the xml sitemap. My question is: should we be resubmitting the sitemaps every time their content change, or since they were submitted once can we assume that the crawlers will re-download the sitemaps by themselves (I don't like to assume). What are best practices here? Thanks!

Redirect_to in URLs?
I've never seen this before. I'm assuming that it's not SEO friendly and that these should be 301s or 302s instead? http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/login/?redirect_to=http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/cars-for-sale-search/results/central/riyadh/ford/explorer/2010/ford-explorer-2010-1038353 http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/login/?redirect_to=http://ksa-beta.motory.com/ar/account/my-saved-searches/

Preserving Social Shares Through URL Changes
We are making significant URL changes to our website. Because the URL is changing the social sharing buttons are not showing previous shared counts. I have read several resources like the one below that is linked to in several other similar questions. http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2172926/How-to-Maintain-Social-Shares-After-a-Site-Migration However I would love to get some insight from someone who has done this and there thoughts on the outcome. As an ecommerce site the "Social Proof" of products that have received social shares is a big deal to us. In Mike Kings example above the counts are being attributed to the OLD URL which is problematic over time. Our site has been up for over 12 years and has had several major changes to it, and I am certain there will be more in the future, being able to preserve the count on the current URL is ideal. While I agree with him that over time I believe social platforms will let data pass through 301 redirects, until then I need to find the best way to do this. Also with his example and others I have seen people mention than new likes from the new url can reset the counter. If you have gone through this and have ideas pleas share them. I look forward to your thoughts thanks.

Will This Domain Change Hurt
I have a potential client that is looking to change their domain for branding reasons, but does not want to lose their solid SERP position. I'm not concerned about links continuing to pass juice as he was (though I am concerned about the link profile). What I am concerned about is domain age (moving from a 4 year old domain to one that has just been parked for 4 years but not used, or one that is currently just a redirect to his site), and the fact that his current URL is an EMD. He is using his state (only really does work there), plus two solid keywords in the domain, and wants to switch to brand name with one of the two solid keywords he was using. My initial thought is "if it's not broke, don't fix it." How worried should I be about rankings if we change this domain. Thanks for the help, and fire back any questions. Sorry I'm a little vague.

Structure of urls
**Hallo from Athens, Greece. We have to implement the following project and i need your help: ** We will build a company guide for the whole country and company local guides for each city for the same client. **Information of the country guide is the sum of information of local guides, so when a user is at the country guide he sees information from companies from all cities and when the user is at city guide he sees info only for the city. ** The problem is the structure of the url we should have. Should the page of presentation of each company should have structure as domain.gr/id/company? or city.domain.gr/id/company and the one to be canonical to the other? is this good for seo? Should both urls be included in the sitemap? Thank you

I'm redesigning a website which will have a new URL format. What's the best way to redirect all the old URLs to the new ones? Is there an automated, fast way to do this?
For example, the new URL will be: https://oregonoptimalhealth.com/about_us.html while the old one's were like this: http://www.oregonoptimalhealth.com/home/ooh/smartlist_1/services.html I have redirect almost 100 old pages to the correct new page. What's the best and easiest way to do this?

Lost FaceBook Shares with URL change
I recently changed the URL of a page and used a 301 redirect from old to new. I just realized I lost all my Facebook shares. Now it shows 0 on that page. What can I do to get back my count of shares? I cannot find any information.
