How to setup affiliate marketing for my website?
-
I work for an ecommerce company and would like to setup some sort of affiliate marketing similar to Amazon.
1. If someone was referred to our site and they made a purchase we would pay out.
2. If we referred a user to someone else's page and they made a purchase we would get paid.
I looked into http://www.commissionfactory.com/ but wasn't sure if that would meet my needs. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi
We use a company called Awin (Affiliate Window) in the UK and they are very good.
As far as I am aware there is no two way affiliates, but the easiest way round it is, to set your self up as a publisher and advertiser.
Its quite easy to do, and you could be up and running as an a publisher in minutes.
Thanks
Andy

If you give me a few of your direct competitors I will do a search to see if they have any inbound affiliate links to their website.

From what I have found none of my competitors are using affiliate marketing so it would be nice to get in early. I didn't think it would be free, I figured there would be some cost involved. I just talked to Hasoffers and they seemed to be pretty impressive I might give them a try.

Hi-
I am personally not aware of any "two way" affiliate programs, but for setting up an affiliate program for your site (pay people for referrals), Ray had some good suggestions for places to start.
I would add the following two thoughts:
-
Depending on your ecommerce platform, you might be able to find low cost affilaite plugins. For example, I know that Magento has several available. The downside to something like this is that you need to build a network of affiliates yourself. If you go with one of the affiliate networks you have an army for affiliates that can choose to list your products.
-
Try to make sure that whatever affiliate program you use has a way to mark a customer as coming to your site first (a cookie on your site). When we set up an affiliate program what would happen is that someone would go through the order order process then when they got to checkout they jump off the site for a minute to go find a coupon. When they returned they would have the affiliate ID of the coupon site, so that site would earn a commission even though they were really not the referrer.
That's my 2¢ !
Good Luck
Ken

There are not any very effective free solutions that I'm aware of, and hopefully someone can add one here so I do become aware.
However, if you're interested in controlling your affiliate program, than Hasoffers is a great product with a low entry cost. You can also look into the popular affiliate networks, such as Neverblue advertising and Commission Junction.
Also, look at your competitors affiliate programs and see what they are using.

Set up affiliates
Hi Mozzers, As a response to Rand's recent (ish!) whiteboad Friday (http://moz.com/blog/my-customers-wont-amplify-my-content-whiteboard-friday) where he talked about how many verticals will never gain much in the way of links because they aren't fun or exciting products/brands. I think my sites fall into this - we sell mortgages! Not the most exciting or sexy of products, but try buying a house without one! With this in mind, I am looking at building an extensive PR campaign, but this will take a fair bit of time to get going. In the meantime, my boss has asked me to find some paid link opportunities. I've been trawling through our main competitor's backlinks like a demon (so much trash in there though, why hasn't Google noticed it yet??) and one of our main competitors looks like they are running an affiliate scheme. I have absolutely no experience in this area. None. Zip. Nothing. I want to change this! And get some good relevant (converting) traffic to my site. I personally think this would be more beneficial than buying links (my boss understands that any paid links I get will have to have nofollow and therefore would be built for traffic) because we'd only pay when we made a sale - right? I think this is the way it works? Anyway, I wanted to know how to become an affiliate? Sorry if I've got the terminology wrong here - like I said before I have zero experience in this. Please can someone point me in the right direction? I've found a few companies that appear to act as the middleman but I have no idea of what is good and what isn't in this area. Steep learning curve for me.... Any knowledge you wish to share with me on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you 🙂

URL Tags / Affiliate tracking help
1. If I give a sales rep a unique tag to put at the end of a URL for tracking purposes, will Google index the "www.mysite.com/service.html?unique-tag" version of a page and display it in search results? 2. Would a tool like Xenu be able to find that version of a URL? Reason for questions: If I give my sales people tags with their names in them, I don't want competitors poaching my sales people by search for all URLs on my domain. Follow up: are there any other potential issues that I should think about? Thanks!

Affiliate network options?
I'm looking, for an affiliate network solution, that can provide not only conversions through affiliate marketing alone, but also as linkbait. What kind of tools do we have available? i remember reading a SEOMoz Blog about the best SEO tools of 2010, and i saw some affiliate options there. Looking to hear SEO community opinions on options like this.
