Best Way to Promote Other Authors SEO?
-
Wanted to get the communities feedback on this.
WDAC is designing a new section of our site. This new section is aimed at helping small businesses that want to get SEO help, but are not in a position financially/do not want to pay an agency for help. The page can be viewed here: http://www.webdesignandcompany.com/expert-seo-tips
The page is called "Expert SEO Tips" and we are going to promote other authors content that focuses on high quality articles around SEO tactics, methods, tips, tricks, etc. There are a few articles listed on the page based around what we have shared in the past, but you can see that the page/section is still in its infancy and may change to a new layout/design in the near future. The section will summarize the article we are linking to , and provide a link to the authors Twitter/G+ profile, depending upon what they have setup.
We have reached out to a few places in the Google+ communities asking for articles and submissions, but have had little success. Strange due to the fact that we are providing outgoing links without requesting one back...hmmm. Anyway, what do any of you think would be the best way to get people to respond?
Also, does anyone see any issues with adding this type of content to our site using followed links, specifically since we are linking out to relevant articles related to our own services? Does anyone see any potential pitfalls? Does anyone have any articles they think would be a great addition or provide help to business owners? All input and insight is appreciated! Looking forward to hearing your input.

What you have produced has a fantastic appearance. What isn't obvious to me when I land on this page are....
**1) Who Should Care? **
Tell visitors who will constitute your audience? ...who should read your stuff? is it experienced SEO, small biz owner, somebody new to SEO who wants to know what an experienced person like you thinks they should know about and what they should be reading.
If you intend to use this page as a way to keep clients and potential clients up-to-date with changes in search and internet marketing (or whatever subject) then stating that very clearly at the top - even as the big bold text at the top of the page, then I think you would get a better following.
2) Your commitment and a way to subscribe.
The people who visit my page have the opportunity to sign up to receive it by email or rss feed through FeedBurner. I have a very obvious announcement there... GET OUR UPDATES FIVE TIMES PER WEEK. That's my commitment. They can see each daily post has a date at the top and six to ten entries and maybe a video. They see I am running an active daily service.
Over ten years I have accumulated thousands of subscribers because they know I am going to feed them the news. About 1/2 subscribe by RSS and about 1/2 by email. When I mention an article in my news the website with the content can get hundreds to a thousand visitors immediately. It is a great way to launch my own content.
**3) Who you are gonna be. **
In the blurb that you use with each entry you can step into a pulpit and show your voice. You can give guidance. "Every small biz person competing for organic traffic should read this."...... "Remarketing is a way to give repeated calls to action for the folks who have visited your website."..... "Don't make this mistake on your blog".... etc. "Lots of people are doing this but it sets off my BS meter"
You can be the guy to recommend, diss, endorse, suggest. If you assume that role, I think that it might help build a following.

Egol,
Glad that you decided to comment, as I value your experience. I have followed you on MOZ and your posts are always full in knowledge.
The page (or however the final design turns out to be) is in place for a variety of reasons. In a way we are helping people that want to optimize their site to find valuable information all in one place. Once we have enough articles, we are going to place them in specific categories such as Local SEO, Content marketing, On Page SEO, etc etc.
We post blogs, but not that often as we are busy pretty much non-stop. So we thought of making this page to help other authors of SEO articles get some exposure, while giving people interested in SEO a hub for the best SEO articles from around the web. I think there is a mutual benefit as they get a link to their published article and social profile, and our site is linking to a relevant topic related to the services that we provide.
If you can think of a way to implement this better, or have some articles of your own that we can highlight, I would appreciate the advice. Also looking for a way to promote the fact that we are doing this for people, as we have not had much success so far. Hard to tell if people do not trust what we are doing, or what the issue is. It's almost like everyone is scared of back links from a website they are not familiar with.

I publish an "industry news" that links out to six to ten pieces of content on other websites several times per week. I have been doing this for about ten years and the service has accumulated a lot of followers by email, RSS and direct visits to my site.
At first I composed lots of unique text for each entry with a great image, then I dropped down to a sentence or two and a thumbnail, now I just use link text like you see on the major news sites. People still want it. It now takes me minutes per day instead of hours. The followers seem to value the recommendations highly and the work that I was putting into it was not a factor.
So, what are you offering. Are you offering recommended guidance from an experienced person? Or are you offering a pretty page that does the same thing? If I would have started out with a list of links, I might not have gotten traction, but now that the traction is there I the pretty stuff seems to be superfluous.

Thank you for your comment, and your kind words.
Yes, this links to an article that the author has already listed on their site. Addressing the duplication, we never list the full article. If you look at the existing format, we only quote a few words (usually the best statement) from the article. The rest of the surrounding text explains what the article is about rather than duplicating their content. We dont want to risk hurting any site that we link to, or damage our own ranking by having this in place.
-
Is this content that the author has already posted on their site? If that is the case I would be worried about duplicate content. If it is not it looks like guest posting and Google has recently said they aren't a big fan of that. Those would be my two big concerns.
If your are looking at helping true beginners I think some of this might be too advanced. Your first article "The Un-Checkbox Approach to Content Marketing" might be too advanced. I would try to point them to something like the Moz beginners guide.
Great website design btw

Latest Info-graphic Best Practices
This is a good "problem" to have. My client is a consortium of web companies. It has just produced a terrific info-graphic on the the latest European data policies. The author is a leading lawyer in the field and the content is outstanding, authoritative, and current. The issue is how to best use the info-graphic for both SEO and general marketing purposes. We will publish the info-grahic on our own site. But what else should we do? (1) The info-graphic already contains the website name. Should we make this a hyperlink on our own site, with or without keyword rich text? (2) We can certainly do handcrafted outreach to likely sites, who might republish. Should we just ask them for backlinks and hope for the best? Or should we embed? (3) We can also send the info graphic as an Eblast to a wider list. Same questio:n Should we just ask them for backlinks and hope for the best? Or should we embed? The site already high DA and a diversified link portfolio. There is no need for risky tactics or "Hail Mary" passes. OTOH, it seems a pity not to make the most of this. Ideas on the above? Other thoughts?

What is the best way to become a published writer / blogger for bigger industry sites?
I'm a younger SEO manager and wanted to started establishing my name throughout the industry through well written blogs, expert articles, and any advice that is needed. I know a lot of answers will be to start my own blog and establish that and I'll get noticed, but is there a good way to make the first contact with industry sites to get an article or blog post published to their site? Or is it a pretty tight "gotta know someone" inner circle?

Train Client to SEO?
What would you do if a potential client asked you this: Bob and I could meet with you soon to discuss how we would like to work with you regarding SEO. We are specifically curious whether or not it is worth it to have you work on SEO-related issues for a specific period of time or to pay to have you train Bob in doing so for that period of time. We would be interested in comparing rates and the value of each proposition. I am tempted to tell them that I do not doing SEO training. But, I have a feeling that there is a way for me to help the client and to make some money for myself as well. I'm curious what the rest of you would do in this situation though. Thanks in advance.

Impact SEO when sharing with other PC urls a mobile website url
Struggle with the following impact on SEO if starting to share mobile website URL. We have multiple PC urls (5 different domains). For example www.site1.com, www.site2.com, www.site3.com, www.site4.com and www.site5.com. Now I have to convince other people within the company not to use one mobile website url for all different domains. The intention is to direct all mobile traffic from site1, site2, site3, site4 and site5 to the url: m.site4.com. Based on the following articles I already wanted to combine the www.site4.com with the m.site4.com to one entity, based on the third method which is supported by Google. https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details and http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/changes-in-rankings-of-smartphone_11.html But now I have to give SEO impact feedback on the other domains. The obvious one is site1, site2, site3 and site5 will not have positive mobile SERP indexation. Second impact: Duplicated content issues across multiple websites.
Industry News | | Letty
Third impact:users from site1, site2, site3 and site5 will see the change in URL, could give a negative user experience.
Fourth impact: text on site1 / site2 / site3 / site5 is not the same as on site 4 this will implement maybe hidden content issues, which could cause penalties. Do I miss other negative SEO impact, I have been searching a lot of the articles / blogs, Q&A but can't really find sufficient information about this particular subject. Any feedback or links to articles / blogs / Q&A are highly appreciated.0 -
What are other SEO's calling themselves now?
I am piggy backing off of Rand's latest Whiteboard Friday: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-we-cant-just-be-seos-anymore-whiteboard-friday (It is an awesome post if you haven't checked it out yet.) I just want to hear some feedback from other industry professionals. Have you started defining/communicating your business as more than just, I do SEO? If so, what are you calling yourselves now and why? How has that been working out for you?

Travelling & SEO?
Hi Everybody, I had no idea where to post this online and i thought SEOmoz was an awesome place to start! 🙂 I own a small digital marketing agency in the UK, i started it when i was 17 and i have won a number of awards from young entrepreneur of the year and i have worked with some large organisations. At the moment i am currently 21 and i have always wanted to go travelling and see the world. I have told my clients that i am going travelling and some are staying with me and some are leaving due to them liking that human contact / meet ups. what is totally fine. In October i am travelling around Australia and i was wondering if anybody has done anything like this before? I have always wanted to do it and keep coming up with excuses why i can't do it, but im just going to go for it!!!! I was thinking that i could travel from city to city working for different SEO agencies, i mainly work as a consultant because i find it extremely easy to start talking to people and generate leads. Do you think it would be better to work for somebody or pitch that im on my own travelling and can do it remotely. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to a agency to take somebody one as "part-time" and for somebody who could "steal" their business, im guessing i could get a contract together explaining that i will not work with any leads generated for their business? How would you go about getting work / getting paid? I have some websites what make income from absence but nothing life changing... just a few ££ per month. Any advice from anybody who has been travelling / done something like before would be extremely loved by me! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!!!! 🙂

How to Find A SEO Guru?
How to find a SEO Guru I am a looking for a SEO to take over our SEO needs for our website.I am not interested in learning SEO and would rather leave it to the pro's.We already have great traffic 800K+ monthly but we need to take it to the next level and beyond. I have searched through SEOMOZ and read articles everywhere and done all that, I think I am more confused now than when I started on how to find a great SEO. While their are plenty of great SEO guys out their a lot of them I don't feel comfortable putting our business in their hands.Their are some smaller SEO's and some shady SEO's that won't work for us.Then some just don't have the credentials or background for us to hand over our hard earned money and have the future of our businesses in their hands. We want someone who has worked on big projects and had great success and is a industry leader but is willing to work with me and be hands on just not send me reports and suggestions. I am Trying to find SEO guru who knows his stuff and knows it well.I know i will pay good money for this but would like to find some up and comers so I don't have to sell unborn children to afford their services. What would be a good way to a great seo maybe even a guru? Finding the right SEO has become a daunting task.
