Where can I find a breakdown of google search volume by specific industry/vertical? For example, what % of people searching in google are looking for housing? Cars? Restaurants?
-
I"m looking for specific breakdowns of search volume in google by:
#1 Vertical (Shopping/restaurants/Services etc).
For example, how many people are searching in google for information pertaining to restaurants per month? Search volume for all of 2012, 2013, 2014?
#2 More granular categories within verticals, people searching for: books, apartment rentals, cellphones)
Is there a breakdown of google search somewhere online that gives this type of information?
Thank you MOZ community, really appreciate it!

Hi
Sorry for repeating, but you gave the answer all by yourself: if you need to know how many people searched for "New car" in the U.S. , you can use both Adwords keyword tool and google trends to get this data. Here is an example for the car industry. Once you determine the keywords you need, you can benchmark and analyze data with many tools (eg. google trends and google adwords, or also semrush, searchmetrics, and moz tools), to get the trends and search volume for all those keywords, and get insights on the industry field youre working on.
Hope this helped

I really appreciate you thinking this through for me, but think about it. Let's take the restaurant industry. There have to be people out there making presentations and putting in facts like "X # of searches are being made by people in the U.S. looking for local restaurants (for example). Or the car industry, people need stats like "X number of people searching for a new car in the U.S. this month"
These statistics seem a vital part of the search community, and understanding these statistics when putting together any kind of global online marketing plan seem important.
Any other ideas to really dig down and get some more specifics?

I think having search volume by vertical is not easy or possible. This because there are so many queries users can use to get to a certain page. Another solution is to use google trends, but you will have to define general keywords for your search: as google shows here you can use trends to target your business and compare different keywords for it to get insights at the business search volume.
But I don't think you can find such data in other ways. What kind of results would you like to expect?
Car Industry: 100.000.000 searches / month
Advertising: 100.000.000 searches / month
It would not be possible: where for example you would then put a query such as "Audi Commercial Advertising". This because queries can target several business industries. What do you think?

Thanks for the tip here!
There must be some place online where we can see the breakdown of search volume by vertical? Anyone out there in the moz community done a research report or found a research report that shows google search volume by category/vertical over the last 5 years?

This is a new tool from google that helps you see how each channel was influential in the conversion path with breakdown by industry type. This isn't anyway what you were looking for. The only other suggestion that comes to my mind:
Use Keyword Planner from Adwords, and search for ideas of your keyword. Then type something generic (like car insurance) to see all related searches to that particular topic, to get a rough idea of what the search volume is for all those queries.
Hope this helps

Do back-links to non indexed sub-domains / sub-directories considered by Google as website backlinks and pass Pagerank to website?
Hi, If some noindexed links on our website or sub-domain got some backlinks, will that backlinks pass Pagerank / linkjuice to website? Will they be considered as backlinks to website by Google? Here is a statement from Matt cutts for the question. My question is same as below with answer? Eric Enge: Can a NoIndex page accumulate PageRank? Matt Cutts: A NoIndex page can accumulate PageRank, because the links are still followed outwards from a NoIndex page. Thanks

Google panda, penguin or Patience needed?
Dear friends, On 3rd of May, i suffered a Manual google unnatural outbound link penalty. I recovered from the said penalty on 27th of June. However, i have noticed that my traffic has been dropping since 23rd April. I am confused where to target my work. Should i work on thin content and is it an algorithmic Panda problem (but my keywords are still ranking good) or is it a Penguin problem (I had 6 domains with payday loans backlinks and i have dosavowed 32 backlinks recently) What should be my plan of action here and what would you recommend? Has anyone noticed how the google sidebar advertising has completely disappeared? They only display top 4 adwords and then remaining on the bottom of each search page. I can't find any info on it or when it actually happened?

Do you think Google is destroying search?
I've seen garbage in google results for some time now, but it seems to be getting worse. I was just searching for a line of text that was in one of our stories from 2009. I just wanted to check that story and I didn't have a direct link. So I did the search and I found one copy of the story, but it wasn't on our site. I knew that it was on the other site as well as ours, because the writer writes for both publications. What I expected to see was the two results, one above the other, depending on which one had more links or better on-page for the query. What I got didn't really surprise me, but I was annoyed. In #1 position was the other site, That was OK by me, but ours wasn't there at all. I'm almost used to that now (not happy about it and trying to change it, but not doing well at all, even after 18 months of trying) What really made me angry was the garbage results that followed. One site, a wordpress blog, has tag pages and category pages being indexed. I didn't count them all but my guess is about 200 results from this blog, one after the other, most of them tag pages, with the same content on every one of them. Then the tag pages stopped and it started with dated archive pages, dozens of them. There were other sites, some with just one entry, some with dozens of tag pages. After that, porn sites, hundreds of them. I got right to the very end - 100 pages of 10 results per page. That blog seems to have done everything wrong, yet it has interesting stats. It is a PR6, yet Alexa ranks it 25,680,321. It has the same text in every headline. Most of the headlines are very short. It has all of the category and tag and archive pages indexed. There is a link to the designer's website on every page. There is a blogroll on every page, with links out to 50 sites. None of the pages appear to have a description. there are dozens of empty H2 tags and the H1 tag is 80% through the document. Yet google lists all of this stuff in the results. I don't remember the last time I saw 100 pages of results, it hasn't happened in a very long time. Is this something new that google is doing? What about the multiple tag and category pages in results - Is this just a special thing google is doing to upset me or are you seeing it too? I did eventually find my page, but not in that list. I found it by using site:mysite.com in the search box.

Are you getting any action from Google +1 ?
If you have added google plus one to your website you can check on the impact by visiting your webmaster tools account. In your GWT account you will see a left menu item for "+1 Metrics". If you click on "Search Impact" you can see the CTR change attributed to +1. Anybody seeing anything there yet?
