Homepage Not Displaying Changes
-
I changed our homepage banner image, and the change shows up if I'm logged into site (it's a WP site). However, when I log out of WP and go to the site, the change doesn't display. I've cleared the cache's, tried different browsers and on different devices, but it only shows the updated version when I'm logged in.
Why would that be? And, how can I "force" it to update?
Thanks so much!

Yup, cache on the backend...ah, I should have known that one!
Thank you both; I greatly appreciate it!

I have not had this problem myself, but a search turns up the possibility it is your plugin, W3 Total Cache. Here is a link about how to clear the cache, in case you want to try this: http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/wordpress/recommended-wordpress-plugins/clearing-cache-in-wordpress

The fist thing to look at is to see if the template/plugin/page is published. If so, I'd check if your CloudFlare cache. Read up on how to purge the cache here https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200169246. This is most likely your problem. If this doesn't help, I'd use dev mode on Cloudflare and start checking caching plugins and memcache.
It's also helpful to rename your new images, i.e., Web-Header-New.jpg to Web-Header-New-2.jpg, so you're not overwriting the previous image that was already cached. You'd have to wait for the cache to expire for a new image to show if the names are the same.

Ranking of non-homepage leads to decrease in website ranking?
Hi all, Google picks up a non-homepage to rank for primary keyword where homepage is actually optimised to rank for same keyword. This means Google is ignoring the actual page and ranking other page. Does this scenario means that we are ranking lower as the homepage is not considered here? We may rank much better if homepage is preferred by Google? Thanks

Why is Google displaying meta descriptions for pages that are nowhere contained in said page metas?
Certain search keywords are pulling up incorrect page titles and meta descriptions for our site. I've looked through our code, and the text used by Google in the search results is nowhere found inside our site. I've also looked at previous iterations of our site from over a decade ago and still haven't found it. I then searched specifically for the exact phrased incorrect meta descriptions and found a long list of spammy sites linking to our domain with the exact, incorrect meta description. Is this why Google is displaying the incorrect data, and how do I get Google to use the meta descriptions from my actual site?

New Google SERPS design - What's Changed?
Has anyone noticed any fall out from the recent redesign of SERP pages by Google? I noticed that there appears to be one less organic result "above the fold" now, so if you were possibly in third or fourth position maybe slight dip in traffic? Any noticeable shift in click through rate with the new bigger font? Also, has anyone noticed if the new design has caused any shift in best practices for on-page meta data like Title tag and description tag counts? I know the Title tag was previously driven by the pixel width of the title in Google SERPS, just curious if that has changed with this redesign.

Major home page change!
Hi Mozzers, Making a major homepage change on my site Orangeoctop.us. I am going from featuring content to featuring products, similar to how moz and hubspot feature their content on the homepage. Just to give you some numbers, the homepage only sees 2.6% of the total traffic and of that traffic half is direct. The homepage is going to be changed to OrangeOctop.us/guides. My Question: Is there anything that should be added to the homepage to ensure that I keep the same domain authority/page authority?

Is it OK to 301 Redirect http://homepage.com to http://blog.homepage.com?
I don't have a homepage built yet, and I suspect that my blog will be my primary SEO draw in the long term, so I'd like to do a 301 redirect (for the techies, I'm doing it in Django with http.HttpResponsePermanentRedirect ) I just wanted to confirm that this wouldn't cause any problems as Google gets used to my page (it's only been up for a few days) Thanks! -matt

Changing a domain for local.
I have a client that currently is using a sub-domain site from our local news paper site. The domain authority looks huge, but it is not really their own domain. I know in the log run it best to change the domain name. I am afraid of a significant drop in Google Places traffic when I change to a new domain. Has anyone dealt with type of situation?
