After adding a ssl certificate to my site I encountered problems with duplicate pages and page titles
-
Hey everyone!
After adding a ssl certificate to my site it seems that every page on my site has duplicated it's self. I think that is because it has combined the www.domainname.com and domainname.com. I would really hate to add a rel canonical to every page to solve this issue. I am sure there is another way but I am not sure how to do it. Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so how did you solve it?
Thanks and any and all ideas are very appreciated.

Hi Donford,
Excuse the delay. We have been very busy but we are working on updating our .htaccess file. Thank you for the quick response. We will let you know if it resolves our issues.

HI Travis
Yes, you can use your .htaccess file to fix this. (This file should be located in your home directory)
A simple example would be
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^YourDomain.com
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.YourDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]What this does is looks for any request for non-www urls, if found it 301 redirects it to the www version of the page.
Hope this helps,
Don

SEO - Massive duplication of same page, but different link.
Hi!
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | jennisprints
I'm dealing with a big client who's site has a big (approx. 39 000) duplication of the "same" page (same content) but each page has a different URL. The duplicated page is a "become a member"-page.
I've checked the backlinks in Google Search Console and there are no sites linking to any of the duplicated pages.
The developers have no clue where or how the pages came to be duplicated, but my guess is that every time a new customer sets up an account the page becomes duplicated. The customer want us to just remove the pages and sort out the duplication, but removing the pages might cause a big drop in back links/traffic and what not. I would much rather redirect the duplicated pages to the original page, but given that there are 39 000 pages it might mess with the site speed. Looking for ideas and suggestions of what the next step should be, remove or redirect.
Thanks so much!0 -
Page title and slug as complements to one another?
When creating a page, is it ever worthwhile to ensure that there's minimal duplication in the keywords in the page title vs. the slug? Or is it more like the title is more like a sentence description of the page and the slug is a scannable set of keywords that describes the page, and duplication doesn't really matter.

Changing meta title dynamically e.g. with number of reviews in title. Is this a problem?
I would like to put the number of reviews in the meta title of a product page. I noticed that tripadvisor for example does the same. However I read in some places that people encountered problems with frequent title tag changes. Did you ever encounter problems by just changing numbers in title tag?

Do you think it is really a problem if just the number of the reviews changes? what about putting number of reviews in the meta description instead?0 -
URL Parameters Duplicate Page Title
Thanks in advance, I'm getting duplicate page titles because seomoz keeps crawling through my url parameters. I added forcefiltersupdate to the URL parameters in webmaster tools but it has not seemed to have an effect. Below is an example of the duplicate content issue that I am having. http://qlineshop.com/OC/index.php?route=product/category&path=59_62&forcefiltersupdate=true&checkedfilters[]=a.13.13.387baf0199e7c9cc944fae94e96448fa Any thoughts? Thanks again. -Patrick

K3 duplicate page content and title tags
I'm running a Joomla site, have just installed k2 as our blogging platform. Our Crawl Report with SEOMOZ shows a good bit of duplicate content and duplicate title tags with our K2 blog. We've installed sh404SEF. Will I need to go into sh404SEF each time we generate a blog entry to point the titles to one URL? If there is something simpler please advise. Thank you, Don

HON Code Certification--how important is it for a health site?
How important is HON code for a health site? I am working on a client's site (health-related) that was hit by Panda and am wondering if anyone knows of any studies or has any personal experience with Panda & HON code?

How do Google Site Search pages rank
We have started using Google Site Search (via an XML feed from Google) to power our search engines. So we have a whole load of pages we could link to of the format /search?q=keyword, and we are considering doing away with our more traditional category listing pages (e.g. /biology - not powered by GSS) which account for much of our current natural search landing pages. My question is would the GoogleBot treat these search pages any differently? My fear is it would somehow see them as duplicate search results and downgrade their links. However, since we are coding the XML from GSS into our own HTML format, it may not even be able to tell.
