SEO for spanish website
-
Hi,
A client has given us the site http://www.comtranslations.com/Home.html for optimization. He wants to optimize only the spanish part ( the link is on the top right ). By clicking on the link Espanol, the url opened is - http://www.comtranslations.com/Principal.html. He wants seo for this website for spanish keywords.
The keywords are -
Traducción
Traductor
traducir español inglés
traducciónMy question is how do we go about this ?
Shall we purchase a software that translates spanish to english ?
Thanks
-
On gwt is easy to target web to local spanish users, but for seo focused is better a local tdl like .es domain.

Although I think the topic of this thread has already been addressed I wanted to add something in case someone stumbled upon it for future reference: The topic of SEO for an international site.
The site mentioned above wanted to rank for Spanish terms and the answers provided recommended buying URLs in different countries so that users of that country know that the site is in their language. For example I am in Spain and see a search result pop up as a dot.com and dot.com/es. It has been shown that the resident will likely favor the site that is more local to them (.com/es) and chances are (let's not forgot about SEO) Google will run a better chance of ranking your content in that country.
Anyhow, all of this I learned here, on SEOmoz: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/international-seo-where-to-host-and-how-to-target-whiteboard-friday
I agree that if you run a translation site you need real translators too, not Google Translate, to capture all of the nuances of language. I'm not sure that our friends in England would know what "for shizzle"means as a example of language and culture.
The above is based on experience too. We run a real estate site in Brazil for investors who want to buy property in the US and we also have a dental forum in the UK and Brazil so that we can capture those markets and to get help ranking there.

Hi, I think as you offer translation services, you have an especially strong need to have real people translate the relevant parts of the website (rather than software).
With regards to geo-targeting in webmaster tools. The suggestion is to geo-target the /es folder rather than just a page. So all the Spanish elements are targeted within that folder.
Resources permitting and having a good understanding of your / your client's markets I would suggest extending this to the other Spanish speaking countries you are targeting. The nuances of language are enough to warrant this and it is an opportunity to demonstrate expertise in translation.
-
Geo targeting to Spain may not be the best way to go with this as the site offers Mexican (Spanish) translations, and by geo targeting just Spain you may miss this market.
I would also agree that a machine translation is not the way to go especially as the client seems to have access to Spanish translation experts.
-
I think this explains it all.
-
Thanks. I understood your point.
Can we use geographic targetting for the spanish version ( http://www.comtranslations.com/Principal.html ) in Google webmaster tools ?
-
/es/ or /es is up to you has no real difference just decide on one and keep the same link through the whole website.
/es is good for users ex: spanish users will want to look for your website and they would know /es is in spanish (after they have viewed your website and found that you have a spanish version). Is good for seo to keep url simple and easy. /es better than principal.html
-
Thanks for your response.
Why is it good to have a url like domain.com/es/
Is last slash necessary ? or can it be domain.com/es
-
First of all i think it would be better to have an url like domain.com/es/
if you have different languages.
It would be ideal to hire someone who is fluent in Spanish as software translation does not sound right.
Hope it helps.

Q& A section - SEO perspective
We have a software in our website where customers can ask questions and it will send questions to people who already bought it to get answers. The answers are there in each item page. So each item page has item description , reviews, and Q&A sections. We get lot of questions and answers and software is great but we don't know if it really is helping us for the huge price we are paying them. In an SEO perspective will it help due to content or will it dilute main keywords due to the Q&A content? Thanks RB

Duplicate Content: Snippets from Blog on Website
Our company has a website and a blog, each on a separate domain. On our website's home page, we include snippets from some of our blog posts and links to such posts. The snippets include the same photo, title, and first line or so of text. We have been told and am concerned that search engines will categorize this as duplicate content. Any recommendation as to how we can get around this issue aside from not including the blog posts on our site? I imagine we are not the first company to want to do this. www.angelicolaw.com Thanks,

Best start for int'l SEO?
Hi all We're soon going to begin our international SEO efforts, and I wanted to get some opinions on laying the foundation first. I'm aware of the best, most ideal practices (getting a proper translator, ccTLDs vs subdomains vs folders, etc.) and wanted to know if this would be a good first step: Creating folders by language/country code (does it matter which?) that will have unique copy on the respective page, and targeting those pages to the corresponding country via Google WMT. The nature of our website would require a massive, coordinated effort to translate all of the content, so I was thinking about starting with the homepage for each country and going from there. Is the risk of duplicate content for every new folder too high to chance not translating EVERY bit of content? Thanks for any help or advice!

Is content aggregation good SEO?
I didn't see this topic specifically addressed here: what's the current thinking on using content aggregation for SEO purposes? I'll use flavors.me as an example. Flavors.me lets you set up a domain that pulls in content from a variety of services (Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, RSS, etc.). There's also a limited ability to publish unique content as well. So let's say that we've got MyDomain.com set up, and most of the content is being drawn in from other services. So there's blog posts from WordPress.com, videos from YouTube, a photo gallery from Flickr, etc. How would Google look at this scenario? Is MyDomain.com simply scraped content from the other (more authoritative) sources? Is the aggregated content perceived to "belong" to MyDomain.com or not? And most importantly, if you're aggregating a lot of content related to Topic X, will this content aggregation help MyDomain.com rank for Topic X? Looking forward to the community's thoughts. Thanks!

Website title question
Say you have a website url of a rather competitive keyword phrase, would it be beneficial for me to go ahead and name my site title the same as the url? And also should my site title go through every page, or should i consider having slight variations throughout the pages? for example: page title | site title or page title| slight varation of title on sub page? **edit - to further expand on the question a bit also, if my google places has the company name on _there - would it be effective to go ahead and use the company name in my site title? _ _Also if i have the main keyword in the breadcrumb as the home, does that effect my SEO credibility if it shows up on all the pages? _

SEO for Japan
Google and Yahoo are the two major search engines in Japan. You can search using Western characters, and you often see English language results with Japanese (Chinese) characters next to them. As I don't speak Japanese, how do I approach SEO for my Japanese-language site? would appreciate any experiences and educational sources on the topic.

Are Forum Links To Website Causing Rankings To Drop ?
For many years our top keywords hve ranked in top 5. Usually top 3 for a few in particular. The last few months those particular keywords have dropped to 25 +. Our other rankings are doing pretty decent and are remaiing the same. We are members of about 6 forums since they relate to our website and sometime we have contests on them. I do know that the forums are based on those particular keywords and are linking to our website, as well as other forum members linking to us. Each forum has roughly 300 links to our website. It does not seem as if our competitors are affected by this, as they are members of the forums as well. What could be causing this for these certain keywords? If those forums were affected by Google's new algorythm would this have an affect on our website?
