Custom HTML or WordPress, it's Time to Decide
-
Today I start the face to face interviews with website companies. So far most have pushed WordPress, few have offered either and one insisted on Joomla.
Our 50+ products and services are primarily customized, so we sell -10 on our shopping cart. We rely primarily on organic Google rankings, SEO and content is critical.
What do you, my fellow Mozzers, recommend for our next website platform for our mobile world and Google friendliness?
TY,
KJr

Did you decide on a platform yet? this was posted months ago, and was curious to your decision. Other mozers are recommending Shopify. I"m a WP girl myself, so I lean that way. Just curious as to the final verdict.

I agree with Ikkie,
My company have just gone through this as we went up against a competitor that offer custom HTML. We won the contract based on the fact that cost was a deciding factor.
Forgetting the initial cost of the website design and build we where very up front with the client regarding changes that they would need to have done moving forward.
Ikkie is right, with a HTML Custom site, you will have to pay for all of the amends to the site moving forward which over time can begin to add up.
There are some great templates out their for Wordpress that you can really make your own. I personally recommend looking a the Genesis Framework and a few of the templates available.
Hope that helps,
Stefan

Wordpress is a powerful piece of software that allows people with minimal knowledge of web design set up a web site fairly quickly. And for personal use it is unsurpassed. However, for business use you have to question whether it is a good choice to use software that is regularly hacked, offers slow performance and requires continual technical attention.
Remember that you are at the whim of other developers, not just for Wordpress itself but for each theme and plugin, who have no relationship with you, and certainly no obligation to you. You rely on them to write secure and professional code, when most of them write it as a hobby.
That’s before you consider that you will be forced to make compromises with the design and operation of the site. Your business is unique and your website should reflect that.
Unless the budget is exceptionally tight, it is often better to get a website developed properly at the start. A website is often the first (and potentially the last) thing people will see about your business. It’s therefore important, and more efficient in the long run to get it right first time!
I suggest you to read the following article it may help you to understand batter which one is batter for you.
My preferrence would be custom solution.

How to export Wordpress comments ONLY to a new domain
Hi Guys, We have a bit of situation here. We have a website (let's say it is www.oldsite.com) where we had more than 2000 posts. There arose a need whereby we had to move some 60-70 posts from this oldsite.com to another domain of ours (www.newsite.com). So, here is what we did: Move those 60-70 posts manually from oldsite.com to newsite.com Did a 301 redirect of each of those 60-70 posts from oldsite.com to newsite.com. Google has now started to rank the posts from the newsite.com for this. That's all good till now. Now, here comes the situation. We also want to move the comments from some of those posts of oldsite.com (some 10-12 posts out of those 60-70) to the respective posts of newsite.com. How do we do that? Do note that we are pretty comfortable with databases and to some extent PHP. Please help.

Google HTML, CSS and javascript styleguides ?
Who's following the Google style guides especially in HTML, CSS and javascript? What are the benefits of following the style guides? I am thinking of sending the style guides to our web development team before we launch our new site but I think there might be some conflicts. I'm an SEO and not programmer or web developer and I'm sure there are some "rules" that these web dev guys should follow and break as well. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Wordpress Designer - Have you heard of Jay Hafling?
We are currently browsing around to have a new site built for us as we are not happy with the current one. I checked out webdevstudio and it looks like they build quality sites, but they told me they aren't taking on small projects like mine currently. So browsing around I found this designer from the Ukraine with a nice site and nice portfolio. I am wondering if anyone has worked with him, and maybe to get some opinions on his work? I don't want to make the wrong choice here.. What do you guys think? http://www.jayhafling.com

Does time on site impact rankings? If a person visits your site from the serps or directly visits it by typing in your name in the search field and then leaves within a minute, will that impact your serps? What is the best way to increase time on site?

Wordpress Design Pricing
Why on earth did you say you could get a quality template designed and coded for a few hundred bucks? Im a professional designer, I expect to make 75 an hour which is actually low. And you think I should be able to design and code a high quality wordpress site in a few hours. You are killing my business and encouraging people to hire low quality developers or take work out of America. Im very offended by your comments. Why dont you try living on 5 bucks an hour !! You just spit in the face of all good designers.
