International website - Image names
-
Hello All!
In an international website, it is recommended to have a copy of every image for every language in the website (with translate filenames)? or it is better to use only one copy of each image and change only the alt attributes?
Thanks for the help.

Alt tags are more important for SEO as far as I know. I think titles do help, but it can get complicated really fast if you want to have unique filenames for several languages. I'd go with the unique alt tag solution.
A strong site structure, some decent backlinks and a strong, optimized site are going to have much more of an impact on rankings anyway.
Then again, if you have just a couple of images and are really concerned about everything being perfect to the last detail, you could use different image filenames.

Seeking guidance setting up hreflang en-gb for international english website and en-us for North American site
Our website is configured like so: MyCompany.com Websites /en-gb - International English /fr-fr /zh-hans /m/en-us - North American site - completely different structure The first three bullets share a Drupal instance where the North American site uses a different PHP framework and has it's own unique look and structure. Currently none of the websites have hreflang tags which means that sometimes when searching in the US the en-gb results creep in. I want to turn on hreflang tags for the international english website (en-gb) but my fear is that Google may not return the en-gb results to English speaking users if they are not in the UK. We want these results to appear for anyone who is not in the US who speaks English. Just a note, Canada is not included in this since they'll be added to the North American site soon and will have their own hreflang tags.

How do you check if press release images are different enough?
We're helping a Sydney blog called Happy develop their local following and we're starting by ensuring their posts are optimized. They're doing a great job with reviews and content but the one thing we noticed is that all the images they use (because they review music) are from bands and artists that are used tens if not hundreds of times in other places. We're trying to set up a simple way for them to tweak these images to ensure they're crawled and seen as original. Anyone had to deal with this and found a solution that makes sense?

Images, using a lightbox would it go against adsense TOS?
Something I have been trying to figure out. On my website each member can have up to 10 images. When viewing a profile you can select each different photo and we currently use javascript to display this in a small box so the page does not re-load. I am curious for ideas, would we be better off having the images load on a different page? Giving more pages per visit in GA or would a lightbox type pop up be optimal. My concern is that the lightbox (similar to how Facebook displays images) would be a violation of google adsense TOS. I tried to talk with a help desk member from google regarding this but I am not even sure they could speak english to understand what I was saying. What do you guys think? When it comes to handling groups of images how would you best display them for user happiness and search engine optimisation?

How do I switch my website to www.mydomain?
I'm having canonical URL problems. I keep trying to set everything to www.mydomain.com, but I'm using wordpress and my site keeps either disappearing completely or giving me an infinite loop error. I've tried changing my main wordpress setting, whether I have canonical URLs turned on, my .htaccess file... Could this be an issue with either my host or my domain registrar? Any ideas how I can fix it?

Internal link structure for large site
I am working on a very large directory site which is undergoing a complete redesign. I am considering the internal link structure from first principles. When a site has over 100,000 pages, how do you ensure that each page is linked to from somewhere so that there are no orphans? Trying to get my head around the structure makes my brain hurt. Any tips?
