What are best options for website built with navigation drop-down menus in JavaScript, to get those menus indexed by Google?
-
This concerns f5.com, a large website with navigation menus that drop down when hovered over. The sub nav items (example: “DDoS Protection”) are not cached by Google and therefore do not distribute internal links properly to help those sub-pages rank well.
Best option naturally is to change the nav menus from JS to CSS but barring that, is there another option? Will Schema SiteNavigationElement work as an alternate?

Meh, I guess not. It's just like talking about it to clients or friends. I've made some fine noise with lots of technical words.

Hi Carl - Did you see Travis' thoughtful response to your question?

I would generally prefer CSS over JS for navigational elements, but that probably isn't the problem here. Google can crawl JavaScript and attribute links fine. And per SEM Rush, it looks like the site is enjoying a pretty sharp uptick in organic traffic recently. That would seem to be at odds with big indexation problems.
I'm not so sure if it's my network, I'm on a sub par connection now, but I noticed that some CSS and JS files were timing out when I crawled the site. That could lead to a big problem. I would advise that someone check the server log files and see if those files are regularly timing out. Ideally one would want their CSS and JS files combined/concatenated where possible, to reduce the possibility of any such rendering issues.
More on that from SE Roundtable
I checked the cache for the EN version of a few of those pages, and they appear to be cached fine.
cache:https://f5.com/products/security/distributed-denial-of-service-ddos-protection yields, which is pretty much what we want.
But I do see some problems that could lead to problems with indexation/display. The site has a number of different languages/translations. However, I noticed that the hreflang attribute was missing. It's strongly recommended that hreflang is implemented. You're good on the language meta tag Bing recommends, though.
That would cause some problems, especially on a site that large. I've researched Radware, their competitor, years ago. F5 seems like the type of organization that would pay for a decent translation. (my German and Spanish are so limited, I couldn't discern the quality of the translations) But if it is automatically generated, that would more than likely lead to indexation problems as well.
Another thing I see is that each translation is marked as canonical. This could also cause problems with display and link equity.
Here's more on internationalization from Moz and Google.
I would also look for ways to build internal links to the important products (DDoS Mitigation is supposed to be a huge money maker now.) on the home page, in the body. Not just in boilerplate (nav... footer... etc....) areas.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the mobile menu doesn't appear to directly link important products. I would make sure the experience is the same across devices.

Google Indexing Desktop & Mobile Versions
We have a relatively new site and I have noticed recently that Google seems to be indexing both the mobile and the desktop version of our site. There are some queries where the mobile version will show up and sometimes both mobile and desktop show up. This can't be good. I would imagine that what is supposed to happen is that the desktop version is the one that should be indexed (always) and browser detection will load the mobile version where appropriate once the user is on the site. Do you have any advice on what we should do to solve this problem as we are a bit stuck?

Do Sitespect links get indexed?
I put a link on one of my websites using sitespect because the next release is not for a few weeks. The reason for the link is to pass domain authority (SEO Juice) to the linked site. In my next release I will add the link in the actual code, but am hoping that from now till then google will crawl and index this link. So the question is, will google crawl and index links adding to webpages via sitespect? Here is the code: | * [http://www.](<a class=)yourdomain.com" class="" >YourDomain |

How to SEO a Website Built off Godaddy?
I have a client whose website is built off Godaddy services. I know Godaddy is not the right choice for building a website, but what's done is done. The client has already bought the Godaddy services and there's no way I can tell him to go rebuild his website before we could optimize it for SEO. I'm already facing a lot of challenges while optimizing on-page elements. When I wanted to verify the ownership for Google Analytics and Webmaster Tool via his Godaddy account. the process failed many times. it looks like Godaddy is using some kind of caching not allowing us to modify the codes. For example, I'd applied the site verification codes for Webmasters Tool 48 hours ago, and the metatag for google site verification is not yet updated in the frontend. It's quite frustrating. What would you suggest?

Sudden drop in Google with our top performing keywords
Hi, I'm writing about the sudden drop in our keyword rankings from our site www.activitybreaks.com. Our keywords that have significantly seen a drop have been activity holidays was 8th now 16th Adventure holidays was 15th now 71st We have been listed on the first page for a number of keywords but these has suddenly dropped in the last couple of days. We did receive a notice on the 19th May from Google stating that they detected unnatural links. So we spent a couple of weeks getting the links removed and have re-submitted the site on 11th June. When I go into Google webmaster there is no reply from Google as yet and the links are still showing even though we know they have been removed. We also noticed in the last couple of days that we had a duplicate home page but this has now since been removed. Should we re-submit our site to Google for reconsideration or wait to they get back to us. Is there anything else we can be doing to fix this situation. Let me know if you have any ideas! Anything is appreciated, thanks. Naomi
