AdGroup by Match Type or by Keyword?
-
Hi,
Will someone please tell me which AdGroup structure makes the most sense?
Grouping Keywords by Match Type? i.e. [pizza store], [pizza restaurant], [pizzeria], etc.
or by Keywords? i.e. pizza store, "pizza store", [pizza store]
We're basically trying to figure out which structure makes the most sense and which will allow us to earn the best quality score.
I've heard of people using both strategies. Personally, I think it should be grouped, more often than not, by keyword. This enables one to tailor the ad and landing page to the specific keyword. I am curious to hear some reasons for grouping them the other way.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi,
Generally the advertisers tend to follow different strategies and stick with the one, which gives them higher Conversions, high Return on Investment (ROI) so some advertiser grouping keyword by match type and some uses all match types in a single ad group.
When working with broader matches changes in Ad copy can be very important so it may be that you'll want to split these different match types into their own Groups to allow Ads better suited to those terms and then add embedded negative match type keywords to streamline the traffic. Now, once you accrue data, you can pause the match types which are not proving worth for you and optimize the rest of the keywords.
I wouldn't suggest going with too much of the Broad match type keywords because that would tend to bring in lot of irrelevant traffic and your much of the time and efforts would go in adding the negatives, analysing the Search Terms frequently and checking which terms are relevant and which not.
BMM & Exact are definitely good option to go for.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

I believe if you are just building out the campaign structure that keeping them in the same (grouped) by keyword theme is a stronger approach for the same exact reasons that you have pointed out.
Once you start to generate some significant data in there, you can always pull those exact match keywords out and place them in their own adgroup for further testing if you will. Intent could potentially be different but without some level of data to review, it would be hard to make the case.
I would go the route as you have outlined and go from there.

Approximate costs of keywords in Google AdWords
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to go about getting some approximate costs for keywords through Google Adwords to assist my SEO efforts. I don't want to open an AdWords account, just looking for costs. If the pricing is too high then the opened account was a waste of time. So if anyone has any resources to find out this information, that would be great! Thanks in advance!

How Do I Track AdCenter Keyword Data in Google Analytics?
Like everyone else, I am looking for new ways to gather as much keyword data as I can in the wake of the dreaded (not provided) epidemic. This question focuses on keyword data from Paid Search. We all know this is very simple with AdWords because the data is right there in Google Analytics. MSN adCenter, however, is a different story as these parameters need to be added to the end of each destination URL. Here are the parameters I'm using: utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term={QueryString}&utm_content={AdID}&utm_campaign=Leads Everything is working well with the exception of {QueryString} which is returning nothing. I would really like to solve this issue because I do not have the time to add specific parameters for each keyword in all of my campaigns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why doesn't exact match appear to be working for me in Google AdWords tool?
Hi guys, I recently read Rand's article here and tried out the exact match symbols on my keywords. However, these don't appear to be working for me as the results aren't showing up as they do in the above SEOmoz article (attached screenshot). What am I doing wrong? Adwords keyword vs exact match kw
Hi guys, I have been using an excellent script that showed me the keywords I was bidding on and the keywords they were matched on by Adwords. I was using the following script: http://www.getelastic.com/exact-keywords-google-analytics/ But I'm under the impression Google changed the way these data can be matched. I now have multiple questions: Does anyone have another script that gives me the same results? Has anyone seen an announcement on why Google has changed this? Might this js solution still be working? http://www.roirevolution.com/blog/2008/02/exact_keyword_tracking_with_gajs.php Cheers and thanks for all the suggestions! Arnout

Keyword Traffic - Does this count paid traffic?
I'm looking at keyword rankings, and specifically at the number under "Keyword Traffic" for one of my keywords, which is described as "how many visits this keyword has generated for your website". We run adword campaigns for some of these keywords. I'm wondering if this number is tracking visits from adwords or is this only organic?

targeting different keywords for site
A site i am working on seakayakingdevon.co.uk, currently optimising for sea kayaking wishes to target alternative keywords such as - canoeing, canoe trips etc. more importantly rank higher than a dedicated local canoeing center site. The issue is he provides kayaking trips and courses and not canoeing but believes a a large percent of his targeted market actual mistakenly searches for canoeing when they actually mean kayaking or simply have no preference - i.e kayaks are often confused with canoes especially with people who have no preference but are more inclined to search using terms related to canoeing, canoe day trip etc. As his site is geared to what he actually provides, I have advised that he would struggle to target such terms as he has no content relating to canoeing and risks the overall ranking positions and SEO efforts for sea kayaking terms.( As these would have to be diluted and would no longer relate to the actual page content.) What method could he deploy without sacrificing the sea kayaking optimisation? I realise he could optimise the site and content for both but question just how successful this would be when compared with the loss of dedicated sea kayaking audience. Is it really worth targeting keywords for service he doesn't provide? On a separate note the site is doing reasonably well since optmisation for localised serch terms but would like to target a wider UK audience as well i.e. tourism to the area. thanks

Keyword Domains for PPC
I have a client who wants to buy a lot of long domains with keywords in them, for example, thesandiegopetstore.com (this is fictional) and then set up a PPC landing page for each. They think that when someone types in "san diego pet store" that their domain will be listed high and then they will get a lot of traffic. My concern is that they will own a lot of domains for their company and I thought Google is getting pretty adamant about companies not having a lot of domains, and I thought that keyword domains are not as effective as they used to be -- that branding is more important now. Also, I think the domains they've picked target very competitive keywords and that perhaps they will get a lot unqualified traffic and will still have to pay for the clicks. What do you think? What is the best way to set up PPC landing pages?
