Page not being ranked properly
-
Hi,
Wondering if someone could possibly shed some light on why some of our pages are not being ranked properly on Google.
For example this page https://www.mypetzilla.co.uk/dog-breeds
Keyword "Dog Breeds" we can't be found on and we are absolutely baffled why? Could it be that we are listing all 100 and something dog breeds on one page? Should we introduce pagination or load more as user scrolls down.
This page has been up for at least 4 years. Any suggestion or advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Let's understand your case, first of all, there are many factors involved in ranking a website. Some of them are internal and others are externals. Based on your comments you want to rank your site
- Target Location: UK
- Target Keyword: Dog Breeds
- Target page: https://www.mypetzilla.co.uk/dog-breeds
- On page Optimization Score: 89 ( You can check this on Moz Pro > On-Page Grader)
With this information, the first thing that you need to check is who is ranking for that keyword in that location, you can do that using several tools like Moz, Ahrefs, Semruhs or Ubersuggest.
Moz
- Keyword Difficulty: 46 Which is not easy, not impossible but is for sure that is not easy
- Volume: 30K -70K
Ubersuggest:
- Keyword Difficulty: 46
- Volume: 90K
Ahrefs:
- Keyword Difficulty: 56
- Volume: 60K
Based on what I see you're competing in a strong and competitive niche so the first conclusion that jumps to my mind is that you need to change your target keyword for that page. But let's keep digging in your problem.
Now let's analyze your target page https://www.mypetzilla.co.uk/dog-breeds
**Moz Link Explorer Report **
- Page Authority: 32
- Domain Authority: 31
- Linking Domains: 42
- Inbound Links: 1.5K
- Ranking Keywords: 1
But all this information is useless if you don't have something to compare it. On your Keyword Explorer Tool, you can see the top 10 websites ranking for that keyword and that location Keyword Explorer > Enter Dog Breed > SERP Analysis
These are the first 3 results, but I will strongly suggest you that check for your self all the reports in your own **Moz Pro Account **
1- https://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/profiles
Page Authority: 50
Domain Authority: 70
Linking RDs To Page: 199
Linking RDs To Root Domain: 18,3932- https://www.petwave.com/Dogs/Breeds.aspx
Page Authority: 44
Domain Authority: 54
Linking RDs To Page: 129
Linking RDs To Root Domain: 4,6423 - https://www.purina.com/dogs/dog-breeds
Page Authority: 44
Domain Authority: 64
Linking RDs To Page: 51
Linking RDs To Root Domain: 12,564As you can see there is no a big mystery here, in fact, is very simple
You are not competitive enoughThese are my suggestions
- Just face the truth, you can't compete with what you have right now mainly because your site is too weak
- Change your target keywords. Look for long tail keywords with lower competition level such as dog breed finder
- Run a link building campaign, and I'm not talking about bu..-shit links that you can buy on Fiverr or some bu..-shit PBN links that can rent or buy for pennies. Cheap Links=Cheap results
- Optimize your technical SEO, I mean you really need to take care of that. Just to give you an idea on a quick audit I found 4,230 results on your internal pages to build internal links using dog breed anchor pointing to your target page
I hope this information answers your question if you consider my answer helps you don't forget to mark it as a Good Answer
Regards and have a great day

If a page ranks in the wrong country and is redirected, does that problem pass to the new page?
Hi guys, I'm having a weird problem: A new multilingual site was launched about 2 months ago. It has correct hreflang tags and Geo targetting in GSC for every language version. We redirected some relevant pages (with good PA) from another website of our client's. It turned out that the pages were not ranking in the correct country markets (for example, the en-gb page ranking in the USA). The pages from our site seem to have the same problem. Do you think they inherited it due to the redirects? Is it possible that Google will sort things out over some time, given the fact that the new pages have correct hreflangs? Is there stuff we could do to help ranking in the correct country markets?

301 Redirect to Home Page or Sub-Page?
What do you think about 301 redirect of good expired domain to a sub-page instead of the home page? I'm doing this so I don't hurt my brand name. Let me know your thoughts please. Thank you

Category pages
I am a very basic question on managing categories in WordPress. We have an Android website, and we cover news, rumors, tips and tricks about new devices. We have been creating categories for the new devices or at least for the popular ones which are launched every year, and link to them internally with the hope that it would improve the page authority and ranking. For example, we have a category page for Moto X, another one for Moto X (2014) and one more for Moto X (2015). One of the reasons for creating a category was to ensure that it is easier for readers to get information about a particular device rather than going to a category page that has information about all the models. However, the problem with their strategy we're now realizing is that it means we have to build page authority for the new category page from scratch, which can take time. So we are thinking of reusing the same category for multiple models. So reuse the Moto X category page for Moto X (2016). However, we are not sure if it would be right approach as we would be linking to the same category page with different anchor texts. So while it would be good to reuse a page rather than rebuild the page authority from scratch, would we be diluting the authority for the main keyword by using it for different models. I would love to hear your thoughts on how we should be handling categories and internal links in this case.

Webmaster Tools HTML Improvements Page Blank / Site Not Ranking Well
I have an ecommerce site that is not ranking well currently. It has about 1,000 pages indexed in Google but very few appear to be ranking. I normally find issues in Webmaster Tools HTML Improvements but for some reason it does not see a problem with the site. There are problems, trust me. Moz shows many issues. Google nothing! There is a problem somewhere but I am not seeing it. Why are HTML Improvements blank and the site not ranking? Am I in the dreaded sandbox? Any ideas? Sean We didn't detect any content issues with your site. As we crawl your site, we check it to detect any potential issues with content on your pages, including duplicate, missing, or problematic title tags or meta descriptions. These issues won't prevent your site from appearing in Google search results, but paying attention to them can provide Google with more information and even help drive traffic to your site. For example, title and meta description text can appear in search results, and useful, descriptive text is more likely to be clicked on by users.

Internal Duplicate Pages causing dip in rankings
Hi Guys, Need help in understanding whether having duplicate pages on your site push you down in rankings. Our all product pages getting indexed by Google with different parameters i.e. filters, affiliate id, utm_source etc. and then we have 10-15 duplicate for one product page. I am observing dip in rankings whenever Google starts indexing these duplicate but when I asked this question to John Muller and other Google team they said if you set up canonical then you don't have to worry about having different urls for same page but we are not ranking on Google and if we do then we dropped from page 1 to page 2 or sometimes page 3. Example - http://goo.gl/G5p3X5 Any suggestions.

3 Pages Ranking Beside Each Other | How do I consolidate so one ranks better?
An ecommerce website I own called backyardGamez.com sells outdoor games, for example cornhole boards, bags, etc. One such product is a cornhole board carrying case. If you search the above phrase, my site has three pages that rank on the first page. The term isn't high volume, so I'm assuming that is part of the reason. Is this a good, normal thing or does this mean I have inadvertently broken up my ranking power from one powerful page to 3 OK pages? Does anyone know how I can take two of these pages and use them to make the 3rd page more powerful? For example, I would prefer 1 page ranks higher on page 1 in the serps and the other two fall a bit from supporting the other. Thanks, Adam
