Page Authority vs Domain Authority
-
I'm using the site explorer to compare a potential clients site against 4 others, in an incredibly competitive market.
Each of their competitiors has a higher page authority (on the home page) than their domain authority. This is untrue for the clients site. (which have much lower metrics all round)
Any input as to what this means/says about their competitors who I would guess (looking at some of their backlink profiles) have done some failry widespread grey hat stuff in the past. (Though haven't we all )

The majority of their links could all be pointing to their home page and they may not have many deep links, which can explain why the page authority for their home page is higher than the domain authority.

Hi, just today Rand Fishkin released another Whiteboard Friday, which almost exactly tackles that topic. Okay the Whiteboard Friday is on Googles PageRank, but he almost certainly explains an awful lot on Seomoz' own ranking parameters and also tackles the question what a good domain authority and bad page authority meand. Definitely worth watching
http://itunes.apple.com/ch/podcast/whiteboard-friday/id411307102 (2011-08-12 PageRank.mov)
Sorry for the itunes link, but the podcast hasn't appeared on seomoz.org yet (sure it will a bit later..)
PS: In a nutshell: High domain authority is much more important, than high page authority. A good domain can give you much more "link juice" than a good article. Or as Rand says it in the vid: A link from an article on CNN with a low PageRank / page authority? Go grab that stuff! It is on CNN!!!! Hope that helped

Reclaim lost links to old pages?
We recently moved our site to a new CMS and did a complete redesign, with new content. It's really hit our SEO. Open site explorer is telling me there are lots of 404 web pages which were basically old product pages that no longer exist, since the way we have structured the site has changed. So is it worth trying to reclaim these links? If so, how can I do that without building pages at the URL - will a 301 redirect be enough?

Seomoz legacy pages?
Hello, I am finding that I miss several of the old seomoz sections. The legacy tools in particular like the visual website comparison. Where is that now? Also, where is the ongoing list of the top 100 sites? So much was lost in the shift to MOZ, I hope some of the good old stuff is still available. Thank you, Nolan

Unable to crawl pages
Hi, I am trying to set up a campaign for our website - www.salvationarmy.org.au however, I can't seem to get a scan of more than three pages. I have tried the following: www.salvationarmy.org.au (only 2 pages) www.salvationarmy.org.au/home (only 1 page) salvationarmy.org.au (only 3 pages) There is a geo IP redirect on www.salvationarmy.org.au but the second domain listed above should resolve the full site. I'm a newbie to SEOmoz so any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Mel

How Do I deal with duplicate page titles for pages on eCommerce site
Hi We have an ecommerce site selling physical products. There are a few areas where the products run into two pages. I have used canonical meta tags and next and prev meta tags too. Despite this SEOMOZ reports are still displaying these as warnings for duplicate page titles. An example would be /brand_name/range/ <link rel="next" href="/brand_name/range/?page=2" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/"/> /brand_name/range/?page=2 <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">prev</a>" href="/brand_name/range/" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/?page=2"/> Should I be doing something different?

Seomoz crawling filtered pages
Hi, I just checked an seo campaign we started last week, so I opened seomoz to see the crawl diagnostics. Lot's of duplicate content & duplicate titles showing up, but that's because Rogerbot is crawling all of the filtered pages as well. How do I exclude these pages from being crawled? /product/brand-x/3969?order=brand&sortorder=ASC
