SEO: High intent organic revenue down in Europe
-
Our team is stumped and we are hoping some of you might have some insight! We are seeing a drop in Europe organic revenue and we can't seem to figure out what the core cause of the problem is.
What's interesting, the high intent traffic is increasing across the business, as is organic-attributed revenue. And in Europe specifically, other channels appear to be doing just fine. This seems to be a Europe high-intent SEO problem.
What we have established:
- Revenue was at a peak in Q4 2017 and Q1 2018
- Revenue dips in mid-late Q2 2018 and again in Q4 2018 where it has stayed low since
- Organic traffic has gone up, conversion rate has gone down, purchases have gone down
- Paid search traffic has gone up, conversion rate has gone down slightly, submissions have gone up
- Currency changes are minimal
- We cannot find any site load issues What we know happened during this time frame (January 2018 onward):
- Updates to the website (homepage layout, some text changes) end of April 2018
- GDPR end of May 2018
- Google Analytics stops being able to track Firefox
Europe is a key market for us and we cant figure out what might be causing this to happen - again, only in Europe - beyond GDPR and the changes we've made on our site is there anything else major that we're missing that could be causing this? Or does anyone have any insights as to where we should look?
Thank you in advance!

For example, the amount of organic visitors, can depend on if Google is rolling out a Google algorthim update?
Here at Walsh & Partners Ltd, we see massive fluctuations in where our website ranked, and number of organic visitors, during the March Google Core Update 2024. So, it might be that there is a significant algorithm update underway?

@Vijay Gaur I also wanted to add that we checked and haven't seen any issue with bot traffic

Hello, thank you for your reply!
1. We are just seeing this trend in European countries.
2. We manage SEO data with google analytics, console, VPN searchers and ahrefs. Our target market is researchers that are publishing research (specifically non-native speakers).
3. Yes it is cyclical - we typically see a lull during the summer and winter holiday (similar to the US academic calendar). For most of our customers, it depends on how often they publish.
4. I'm not familiar with spam (bot) traffic. What is the best way to look into this? -
Hi There,
The information above looks insufficient to draw conclusions, however, I understand your main concern is about a drop in organic traffic from a specific geographic region and conversion drop as well.
Here are some further questions:
- -Is your industry seeing a downtrend in general in Europe or elsewhere?
- How are you managing the international SEO of your website? What is the main target market for your website? How is it international targeting setup in google search console (old version)?
- Is your business cyclical in nature?
- Have you analyzed whether the earlier traffic was spam(bot ) traffic, how much is the drop from such traffic?
Thanks,
Vijay

Linking from high ranking sub domain pages to less ranking main domain pages to benefit latter
Hi all, We have our product guide pages on sub domain which are years old, so have some backlinks and high ranking for the beand related queries. Now we created new guide pages on our main website and we want these new pages to rank top beating the old pages from sub domain. Again we can't deindex or rel canonical to solve the issue as there are some part of users still using the old pages. We are planning to give a link from every old page of sub domain to same new page on main domain. Will this linking increases the authority of new pages technically and helps in ranking better? Like we give a link to "Moz guide 1" page to "Moz guide 2" page to rank latter better. Thanks

Dramatic drop in SEO rankings after recovering from hacking
A few months ago my client's website was hacked which created over 20,000+ spammy links on the site. I dealt with removing the malware and got google to remove the malware warning shortly within a week of the hacking. Then started the long process to do 301 redirects and disavowing links under Webmaster tools over these few months. The hacking only caused a slight drop in rankings at the time. Now just as of last week the site had a dramatic drop in rankings. When doing a keyword search I noticed the homepage doesn't even get listed on Google Maps and for Google Search instead the inner pages like the Contact Us page show up instead of the homepage. Does anyone have any insight to the sudden drop happening now and why the inner pages are ranking higher than the homepage now?

Drop in Organic Traffic
Hi all, last Thursday (1/31) our organic traffic and conversions fell off the map, going from 15% of our traffic to just over 5%. We've started creeping back up, we were nearly 7% yesterday, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced an extreme drop in traffic or any advice on what we should be doing next. We are currently building links from University and government organizations and are always creating fresh content on our blog and website pages. One thing that we thought of is this timeline corresponds with when we created a Google + local listing for our company. Is there any possibility we stopped appearing in as many national search results since we have a local listing? Our domain is www.dishcostsless.com. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank!

Is there any SEO value to Infographs?
I purchased Piktochart to make what they said were SEO friendly infographs. Hearing conflicting responses on the SEO value I figure I should ask SEO's. The program is easy and you can download as an XML. Any responses are welcome Thank You

How vital is it for a site to have a mobile site for mobile SEO?
With the exponential growth in mobile device sales and usage and an expected 980% growth in advertising next year for/on mobile devices, we at http://www.mobilewebsitegurus.com decided that it was time to help companies create great looking mobile websites that are user friendly and SEO friendly at affordable rates with tons of features built in from the start. However, when selling our design, how important is it to have a GOOD mobile site compared to a big one to rank on mobile devices? We head that Google was thinking of only showing mobile sites on mobile devices. NOT TRUE. Then we read/heard that the rankings were MUCH BETTER if you had a mobile site, but after a lot of research we found that too NOT to be true. On most sites there were NO difference. So what is the TRUTH about this and is it maybe just that it will happen, just has not happened yet - the different rankings for mobile and regular sites on mobile devices that is? ANY insight in this would be great not only for us but for the entire SEO community 🙂 Thanks. ALSO, add "Mobile SEO" to the boxes below of "Topics" since mobile SEO will grow in importance.

FLASH vs HTML links in SEO
In terms of a small flash slideshow and having text and links on various slides within, is such text and links as easily index-able (or even at all) compared to static html text on a webpage?
