Homepage Ranking Issue
-
Hi Folks,
My site https://homeontheswan.com/ has been live for a few months now.
Certain pages are ranking, even some number 1 postions for prodcuct pages with certain search terms.
But our homepage doesn't seem to rank in Google when searching by brand name "Home on the Swan".
The page is well optimized according to Moz.
Any tips / insight into why this is happening would be much appreciated.

Hey Jamie!
If you're a new site this might take time. Essentially Google needs to recognize your site as an entity which it may not have done yet. This might take some time as users might need to send Google signals by querying "home on the swan" and then adjusting their query and navigating to your result. With our clients, we've seen this can take some time but generally Google will start to rank new sites over time as it collects more behavioral data.
In the meantime, you could try other things to improve your optimization:
- Add to the "Organization" schema you have on the home page and ensure the name property uses "Home On The Swan"
- Internally link to the home page using the anchor text "Home On The Swan"
- Generate backlinks using the text "Home On The Swan"
P.S. I noticed that your site uses Shopify. This guide might also be helpful for you: https://moz.com/blog/shopify-seo

New keyword simply not Ranking
Evening all, first post. I'm currently ranking OK for a broad range of keywords - nothing at number 1 but some are on the first page. However, there is one particular keyword which simply refuses to get indexed. I've witnessed this behaviour before with another site where it appears at SERP 300 or so, then vanishes, comes back at 200 odd and then vanishes. Right now, it's not even ranking in any position. I'm using SERPFox for SERP position on Google. I've had Moz analyse the content on page and it's getting an A. The article is about 2000 words, with good Title and page description and the keyword is appearing under 1%. My question is, have you witnessed odd behaviour like this before where other keywords are ranking OK but an odd few don't even get indexed? I have a few links built to the URL and asked Google Webmaster tools to index the URL but still nothing. I have no penalties or anything to worry about. The only other info I have is that this URL is on a brand-new domain but the previous domain has a 301 redirect with a page authority of 42 and a domain authority of 38 (not too high). And, everything else appears to be running along OK. The point is, I have no expectations about the keyword ranking in a certain position but find it odd how the keyword keeps popping in and out of Google SERP. The keyword has a difficulty of: 58% Any thoughts appreciated. Robert. uH7vtbh

301 issue in IE9
My development team recently discovered an issue with 301 redirects caching in IE9. They did some research and found the situation was very complicated so their solution was to use 302s and no longer use 301s. As a temporary solution to a few URLs I was okay with this, but we have a site redesign launching in a few months and I am quite worried if we have to do all of our redirects as 302s. Has anyone else had this issue with IE9 and 301s. I could use any advice on how to overcome this issue. Thanks!

Homepage canonicalized with trailing slash
We were told by a consultant that in SEO it is best practice to canonicalize our homepage URL with the trailing slash. What do you think about doing this for the homepage? Is it important for other site links to have the trailing slash as well

Caninical issue
Hello all, I have a problem related to "canonical issues" that I would like to get your view on: The issue: Our site: http://www.texaspoker.dk/ has a "canonical issue" with the home page. We added a redirect to www.texaspoker.dk, but this hasn't solved our problem. In the latest "too many on page links" analysis made with SEOmoz' exelent SEO tool, we get the following error: http://www.texaspoker.dk(101 on page links) http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 (on page links) So, made simple, the analysis tells us that both http://www.texaspoker.dk and http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 has too many on page links. How do I eliminate / remove the unwanted http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 and how did it, in the first place, get there? Thanks a lot!

Duplicate Content Issue
Hi Everyone, I ran into a problem I didn't know I had (Thanks to the seomoz tool) regarding duplicate content. my site is oxford ms homes.net and when I built the site, the web developer used php to build it. After he was done I saw that the URL's looking like this "/blake_listings.php?page=0" and I wanted them like this "/blakes-listings" He changed them with no problem and he did the same with all 300 pages or so that I have on the site. I just found using the crawl diagnostics tool that I have like 3,000 duplicate content issues. Is there an easy fix to this at all or does he have to go in and 301 Redirect EVERY SINGLE URL? Thanks for any help you can give.

Ranking with a .nu TLD
Hi everyone, A few weeks ago i purchased a .nu TLD, it's a really nice domainname but i'm wondering if it's possible to rank with this domain in Google? I've heard several times that it doesn't matter for Google which TLD a site has, but i normally never see .nu's high in the SERP's, what are your opinions about this? Is it possible for me to get this site high in google with good links and quality content? Thanks!
