What is the best meta description for Category Pages, Tag Pages and Main Article?
-
Hi,
I want to index all my categories and tags. But I fear about duplicating the meta description.
for example:
I have a tag name "Learn Stock Market", a category name "Learning", and a main article "What is Stock Market".
What is your suggestion for meta description of these three pages that looks great for seo google?

Hi MB
It's perfectly OK to rank articles and categories as long as you can justify them. For example, the primary keywords would be:
Category: 'Stock Market Training''
Article: What is The Stockmarket?
All well and good so far. You would make the primary keywords distinct and different for each and that would work well.
Once you introduce tags like Learn Stock Market - everything falls apart. They cut across and cannibalize the category and articles and so have no worth. It will ruin your efforts for the other two.
Write some compelling SEO text for the category page, up to 1000 words may do but check the competition and have just a short summary of each article on there with links to the articles.
No index the tags. Trust me it's the correct way to go.

Hi,
That sounds like a very standard set up so you shouldn't have much to worry about. The only thing to be aware of if whether you really need tags and categories as opposed to just having one of the other. If you do, for instance, you might decide to keep tags for navigational purposes, I'd consider noindexing the tag pages. By not indexing them, they won't cannibalise your category pages, but you still get the benefit of the user experience of having tags that visitors can use for navigation.

Company name in Site Meta description?
Ok. So I know that you should have your company name in the site title, but is it all that important in the site description? The reason I ask is because I am competing with another company for the #1 position (I was number 1, now #2) that has an 8 character name and mine is 22 taking away from a great deal of real estate in my 150-160 character site description in which I could provide additional information describing my company. Should I remove my name in the site description enabling me to use more descriptive keywords and actionable text such as (Find, research, contact, professional, info) etc. Thanks,

Why are http and https pages showing different domain/page authorities?
My website www.aquatell.com was recently moved to the Shopify platform. We chose to use the http domain, because we didn't want to change too much, too quickly by moving to https. Only our shopping cart is using https protocol. We noticed however, that https versions of our non-cart pages were being indexed, so we created canonical tags to point the https version of a page to the http version. What's got me puzzled though, is when I use open site explorer to look at domain/page authority values, I get different scores for the http vs. https version. And the https version is always better. Example: http://www.aquatell.com DA = 21 and https://www.aquatell.com DA = 27. Can somebody please help me make sense of this? Thanks,

SVG image files causing multiple title tags on page - SEO issue?
Does anyone have any experience with SVG image files and on-page SEO? A client is using them and it seems they use the title tag in the same way a regular image (JPG/PNG) would use an image ALT tag. I'm concerned that search engines will see the multiple title tags on the page and that this will cause SEO issues. Regular crawlers like Moz flag it as a second title tag, however it's outside the header and in a SVG wrap so the crawlers really should understand that this is a SVG title rather than a second page title. But is this the case? If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to hear about it.

Title tag of product page including category keyword?
I'm doing some work on a site that essentially is about giving and getting reviews. It's heirarchy has categories and products within those categories. For the title tag of the product pages, they currently have "Best {Category} | {Product} Reviews" I've advised them that they should remove the "Best {Category}" part because a) they're already targeting the category pages themselves and b) from a user perspective, the product page should just have a title tag that makes sense for that particular page (the page is not necessarily the "best" and certainly is not a series of products within that category). I wanted to post here to confirm that my advice is sound. Thanks.

Home page keyword effecting internal page ranking
Hello, My client has a second keyword for the home page that is competitive. The home page is not being ranked for this keyword. Instead, an internal category page is ranking. This internal category page is more relevant than the home page - it shows the categories for the actual products that this term refers to. But everyone around us in Google's page results has far more backlinks than the internal page, and we're all heavily optimized for this term. My question is, is it safe to pull the second term off of the home page or is this internal page strong because it is somehow being strengthened by the home page optimization?
