Hi - We built a new site on a URL that had previously been used. We are noticing a lot of spammy backlinks pointing to our current site and ending up on a 404 page. Any recommendations on how to handle this?

Handling pre-existing backlinks when launching a new site is an important aspect of SEO. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to manage them effectively:

            Backlink Audit:

Conduct a thorough backlink audit to identify all existing backlinks pointing to your new site. Use tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or Moz to gather this information.

            Quality Assessment:

Evaluate the quality of each backlink. Focus on links from reputable, authoritative, and relevant websites. Identify and address any backlinks from low-quality or spammy sources.

            Redirects for Changed URLs:

If your new site has different URLs than the previous one, set up 301 redirects from the old URLs to the corresponding new ones. This ensures that visitors and search engines are seamlessly directed to the updated content.

            Contact Webmasters for Updates:

Reach out to the webmasters of reputable sites linking to your old site. Inform them of the domain change and request an update to the link. Provide the new URL and any other relevant information.

            Update Listings and Profiles:

If your site is listed in directories, forums, or other platforms, update your profile information to reflect the new domain. This helps in maintaining the consistency of your online presence.

            Submit Updated Sitemap:

Submit the updated sitemap of your new site to search engines through Google Search Console. This helps search engines discover and index the new pages and changes more efficiently.

            Monitor 404 Errors:

Keep an eye on your website's 404 error pages using tools like Google Search Console. Address any broken links promptly by redirecting them to relevant pages on your new site.

            Content Relevance:

Ensure that the content on your new site is relevant to the context of the backlinks. If there are discrepancies, consider optimizing the content to align with the anchor text and overall theme of the linking pages.

            Build New Backlinks:

As you work on managing existing backlinks, also focus on building new, high-quality backlinks for your new site. This helps in strengthening your site's authority and improving its search engine rankings.

            Regular Monitoring:

Continuously monitor your backlink profile using SEO tools. Regularly check for new backlinks and ensure that existing ones remain valuable and relevant.
By systematically addressing pre-existing backlinks during the launch of your new site, you can maintain the integrity of your SEO efforts and help search engines understand the changes, ultimately supporting a smooth transition and minimizing any negative impact on your rankings.

Unsolved Inaccurate backlinks being listed in Moz campaign

                backlinks campaign details

Moz keeps saying that these websites (amongst others)... https://toolszap.com/
                https://www.findwallpaperhd.com/
                https://onlinecoursesschools.com/
https://www.tonzo.com/ ...are linking to one of my client sites at https://www.scamblermusic.com The websites in question clearly aren't related and aren't linking to the site, and there's no reference to Scambler Music anywhere in the source code. Why does Moz keep listing backlinks that simply don't appear to exist?

                Backlink Transparency with SEO Agency

Hello everyone. I recently started working with an SEO agency and today they gave me an updated keyword report which showed some increase in rankings. I was not aware that any backlinks had been created yet so I asked for a report of the links. Their response is below and I am just wondering if this is normal practice being I have not worked with any type of SEO agency yet. "
Hey Daniel, We release a small report on them which the guest blog team will do soon. We don't reveal all backlink sources unfortunately because people have tried to bother the webmasters we have and basically steal our techniques. But rest assured you will be ranking at the top of the pack with our methods 😃

                Ways to remove spammy backlinks

Hello everyone, I got hit with an algorithm penalty and need to start removing old backlinks ASAP. Does anyone have any good resources on how best to ask webmasters for removal? Are there any other ways to remove bad back links besides the disavow tool? (An SEO consultant I talked to said that they had a proprietary software that can remove them - is that possible?) Thanks all,

                PR1 and PR2 backlinks

We're doing some content marketing. I've heard that it is a good idea to target even PR1 and PR2 sites (small DA sites). I'm concerned about these sites disappearing after a few months, as we've found that losing a backlink can sting a bit and be worse than never having it. Though this isn't as big a deal any more. Anyways, can somebody say when a PR1/PR2 backlink would be appropriate to go after? Some of them would be easy and if it's appropriate I'd like to include them. So far they would only pass our standards if they are Above PR0 Look like a white hat, quality site from the outside Have a clean backlink profile Look like they're going to stick around Successful Social Media Accounts a plus What are you guys' criteria for including these sites? Do you gain value from them?
