Can we rank as a related search query on a competitor's brand keyword?
-
One of my clients wanted to know whether it's possible for him to rank as one of the related pages on Google for a brand name of a competitor. I honestly don't know whether it's possible so any ideas whether it's possible and if so, ideas on what can be done is greatly welcome.
Thank you in advance.

But if you sell football boots and you manage to rank for a competitors brand name, but the landing page did not mention the competitor brand name but delivered lets say 10%Off promo code as a call to action then I cant see anything wrong with this? Unless im actually wrong and you cant do this!
-
Ok,
Are you talking about ranking top when a user views this page in Google, related:www.competitordomain.com?
-
Should have explained myself more clearly. The client wants to rank on Google related pages for a brand name of a competitor. Any help?
-
heh, had a friend who did this type of things to rank organically for all his competitors brand names. Unfortunately he put stuff on the landing page that made them very angry and lawyers got involved and it all went downhill very quickly
So, if you are trying to rank for competitors, you will need to talk about them in some way on the page you are using to rank. Be careful how you talk about them!

Thanks James. It's really helpful. I'm with you when it comes to ethical side of the things and thanks again for clearing a cloud in my mind. I wanted to make sure whether what I asked is possible at all. Wish I could buy you a beer sometime

From a PPC front I would not advise on it as if the term if trademarked Google will not allow it.
From a Organic front it is possible, yet really search intent comes into play think about it if the user is searching for a specific brand their is a small chance they are actually going to want to buy something from your brand correct?
It is like searching for "Apple Iphone" do you want to see the "HTC" come up?
Really it comes down to ethical lines and what the business wants to do, I have dealt with cases in other businesses I have worked at where competitors have had a generic sounding business term, so yes then it can be targeted.
But if the business brand term is unique, I personally would not advise on it.

Google not giving ranking to the intended page of my website.
Hello friends, This is my very first question, I hope I will explain my issue correctly. I have created two pages related to SSC CGL keyword on my website: https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-notification-exam-date 2) https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-apply-online I want to target the keyword SSC CGL Apply Online on the 2nd URL but Google is only considering the 1st page for all the "apply" related keywords as well. Can anyone suggest to me how to get the second page in rankings for its intended keywords? I will be very thankful for this help. I tried adding image but its showing dummy. Please you can check it op GOOGLE SERP Second page

Isn't Buzzsumo Just A Measure Of Advertising Budget?
Hello, I see Buzzsumo being widely touted as a great way of seeing what other people are writing on a niche topic to give an indication of what is performing well according to the number of social media shares. Is this a good metric considering that any proportion of the shares could be paid for or secondary to advertising? I have looked at some of the sharers and often there is no data logged, or only a few listed. I see that often the longer posts have more shares; if I had written a 7000 word post I would be more likely to push it harder on social media and spend more promoting it, I wonder if this is skewing the data also. Thanks for your opinions on this. Toby

Wouldn't it be great to add a visitor intent field in a keyword study ?
Hello everybody, With hummingbird update i think i understand that two pages like exclusive dating website chic dating services which could have been targeted on 2 different pages can now be targeted in a single one.
Search Behavior | | Sindicic_Alexis
In the end google is asking "Well... isn't an "exclusive" dating website the.. same as a "chic" one ? isn't it the same visitor intent which is triggered ? ". I'm building a new keyword study for one of my websites and i'm trying to be more in the "intent" point of view than in the "keyword" one. I've added a new column to my study which includes transactional / navigational and informational dropdown. I think this information is great but i feel that something is missing... I wonder if we could include a column which describes the real visitor intent in the form of a "user story"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_story for example : As a visitor i want to land on a page that proves that the company is only working with "exclusive" people.
-> We could optimise this page for all the "exclusive" "chic" "fancy" "elegant" "elite" keywords. Just a thought, i'd be really interested in knowing your point of view. Thanks a lot for your answers 🙂0 -
Google keyword planner shows low search volumes
Hello, There are some terms that you'd expect to see a lot of results. In fact, in the old days of Keyword Tool, I recall seeing thousands of results for a keyword like "anderson cooper". Today, I see a small amount as a monthly average. Am I doing something wrong? All I really want to do is find search volumes on particular keywords either globally or local to a country. And it's proving soo hard! 😞 Screen_Shot_2013_11_26_at_11_13_20_PM.png

Ranking multiple domains in the SERPS for same keywords?
Curious if anyone has had success ranking multiple sites with same whois and server info? We have a client who has purchased multiple businesses over the years in the same industry. Each site has a solid amount of link popularity already and good respected Brand. But I'm wondering with the whois info being the same and the same servers, if ranking for multiple domains will be worth attempting.
