Why this page doesn't get indexed?
-
Hi, I've just taken over development and SEO for a site and we're having difficulty getting some key pages indexed on our site. They are two clicks away from the homepage, but still not getting indexed. They are recently created pages, with unique content on. The architecture looks like this:Homepage >> Car page >> Engine specific pageWhenever we add a new car, we link to its 'Car page' and it gets indexed very quickly. However the 'Engine pages' for that car don't get indexed, even after a couple of weeks. An example of one of these index pages are - http://www.carbuzz.co.uk/car-reviews/Volkswagen/Beetle-New/2.0-TSISo, things we've checked - 1. Yes, it's not blocked by robots.txt2. Yes, it's in the sitemap (http://www.carbuzz.co.uk/sitemap.xml)3. Yes, it's viewable to search spiders (e.g. the link is present in the html source)This page doesn't have a huge amount of unique content. We're a review aggregator, but it still does have some. Any suggestions as to why it isn't indexed? Thanks, David

Hi David,
Apologies, in my haste I didnt take in it was the engine page. I hole heartedly agree with the other comments made here. I would also add that, although not the be all and end all, you may find that linking out to to other sites may help the page get indexed as well. If there are any additional, authoritative resources (that are not competition) it may be worth linking to a few of these. Adds value to the user as well.

A factor could be another page was not indexed on the previous version of the site, which is presently indexed. On this site, the "other" page was indexed first, leading to this page not being indexed.
I noticed your site has other 2.0-TSI pages, and they were VW pages as well.

Interesting in the previous (completely version of the site) that page used to get crawled fine, but it had more content (but exactly the same as the parent one).
I wonder whether I should accept some duplication, just bite the bullet and write lots of original content, maybe find a way to explain google (using microformats) that it's a page that aggregates reviews.
I still need to figure out whether is it more worthwhile focusing on long tail keywords that the engine page would allow (E.g. Audi A6 1.4 Bluemotion TDI reviews) or just merge it together with the parent one for a much more content rich (Audi A6 Reviews).

Completely agree with Ryan, as an in-house SEO of a company with hundreds of thousands of pages I can guarantee you that not every page you have will be indexed via your sitemaps. The best thing to do is just use the tips that Ryan stated above. Link earning or content building, content building being the easier of the two.

Google has specifically stated they do not guarantee they will index all pages of a website. For Google to index a page, they have to decide the page offers value.
When I examine the page I note the following:
-
the page's comments are all snippets from other pages which have the full comments. There is no unique content for the comments.
-
the page's content is a total of 6 sentences, several of which are common to other pages on your site or are otherwise generic such as "Use the filter above to see reviews for the other engines."
-
the page has no backlinks to it, and the linking page has no links either. There are no apparent off page factors to indicate this page is important.
If you were to earn links to the page, my bet is it would be indexed. If you were to add a decent amount of quality content on the page, it would probably be indexed as well.

That's not the problem. The car in question got crawled correctly. It's the engine below it that didn't get crawled.
Anyway the car-chooser page is not the only way to get to cars.
-
Hi David,
When you first load the "Car Page" http://www.carbuzz.co.uk/car-chooser only the first few cars show. THe rest are only accessible when you scroll down the page which then activates some AJAX (i think) which loads more cars i the listing.
I suspect this has something to do with is. The bots cant access the "more" listings.
You could use an HTML sitemap on the site to help them get indexed but it would be better if the pages were linked to by default from the listings page.

How do you 'close down' a website?
Hello all, If a company acquires a smaller company and 'absorbs' its products and services into its own website, what is the protocol with closing down the smaller company's site? So far we added our branding to the site alerting their visitors to the imminent takeover, and 301 redirected certain pages - soon we'll be redirecting all the pages to their counterparts on the main website. Once that's done, should we noindex the old site? Anything else? Thanks, Caro

Not All Submitted URLs in Sitemap Get Indexed
Hey Guys, I just recognized, that of about 20% of my submitted URL's within the sitemap don't get indexed, at least when I check in the webmaster tools. There is of about 20% difference between the submitted and indexed URLs. However, as far as I can see I don't get within webmaster tools the information, which specific URLs are not indexed from the sitemap, right? Therefore I checked every single page in the sitemap manually by putting site:"URL" into google and every single page of the sitemap shows up. So in reality every page should be indexed, but why does webmaster tools shows something different? Thanks for your help on this 😉 Cheers

Problems with to many indexed pages
A client of our have not been able to rank very well the last few years. They are a big brand in our country, have more than 100+ offline stores and have plenty of inbound links. Our main issue has been that they have to many indexed pages. Before we started we they had around 750.000 pages in the Google index. After a bit of work we got it down to 400-450.000. During our latest push we used the robots meta tag with "noindex, nofollow" on all pages we wanted to get out of the index, along with canonical to correct URL - nothing was done to robots.txt to block the crawlers from entering the pages we wanted out. Our aim is to get it down to roughly 5000+ pages. They just passed 5000 products + 100 categories. I added this about 10 days ago, but nothing has happened yet. Is there anything I can to do speed up the process of getting all the pages out of index? The page is vita.no if you want to have a look!

Page rank 2 for home page, 3 for service pages
Hey guys, I have noticed with one of our new sites, the home page is showing page rank two, whereas 2 of the internal service pages are showing as 3. I have checked with both open site explorer and yahoo back links and there are by far more links to the home page. All quality and relevant directory submissions and blog comments. The site is only 4 months old, I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the fact 2 of the lesser linked pages are showing higher PR? Thanks 🙂

We changed the URL structure 10 weeks ago and Google hasn't indexed it yet...
We recently modified the whole URL structure on our website, which resulted in huge amount of 404 pages changing them to nice human readable urls. We did this in the middle of March - about 10 weeks ago... We used to have around 5000 404 pages in the beginning, but this number is decreasing slowly. (We have around 3000 now). On some parts of the website we have also set up a 301 redirect from the old URLs to the new ones, to avoid showing a 404 page thus making the “indexing transmission”, but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. We've lost a significant amount of traffic, because of the URL changes, as Google removed the old URLs, but hasn’t indexed our new URLs yet. Is there anything else we can do to get our website indexed with the new URL structure quicker? It might also be useful to know that we are a page rank 4 and have over 30,000 unique users a month so I am sure Google often comes to the site quite often and pages we have made since then that only have the new url structure are indexed within hours sometimes they appear in search the next day!

Why is Google only indexing 3 of 8 pages?
Hi everyone, I have a small 8 page website I launched about 6 months ago. For the life of me I can not figure out why google is only indexing 3 of the 8 pages. The pages are not duplicate content in any way. I have good internal linking structure. At this time I dont have many inbound links from others, that will come in time. Am I missing something here? Can someone give me a clue? Thanks Tim Site: www.jparizonaweddingvideos.com
