What is wrong with this site

Hello,
I need advice regarding design ( current design as well as any changes ) and seo advice as to what we should do to promote the site. The site in question is -
Thanks

Hi Atul.
Shelly offers a great response and gets a thumbs up from me. A few points of feedback to add in addition:
-
the site is currently duplicated. It is available in both the www and non-www URL format. This major issue needs to be addressed
-
The site is social with facebook. Add google+ and twitter as well.
-
Social sharing can be added to each and every "product" which in this case is the papers.
-
For the home page, I dislike seeing index.php. It is not helpful to users nor search engines. Which URL looks nicer to you? http://allkindofessays.com/index.php or http://allkindofessays.com/
-
The GoDaddy SSL certificate is fine, but the "SSL Certificates" text underneath it is totally unnecessary and I would remove it.
-
On your home page the sidebar has "Subjects" and the exact same links and subjects are shared in the main page area. I would suggest one or the other but not both.
-
Shelly mentions a XML sitemap but I would recommend an HTML sitemap for users, not XML. The XML sitemap is great for search engines, not users.
Good luck.

Atul,
To start with, I would direct you to the following resource;
http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo
It contains surprisingly good tips for people beginning SEO and some gems for experts alike.
Looking at your site, I would suggest the following;
-
Reduce the number of links on your home page. The big 'blob' of links of the tops looks incredibly spammy on first glance and you need to categorise these. Perhaps under a 'New Essays' category and then maybe just include a few 'featured' new additions at the top. Adding an image and a short description for each of these may also help with the look and feel of the site.
-
Get rid of the ' in FAQ'S at the bottom and replace it with a small s. Not a big one, but it's bad grammar.
-
Your H1 tag is too long. It should concentrate on a particular keyword or brand you are targeting for your home page. Perhaps 'All Kind Of Essays'
-
The alt text for your images could be better utilised. Put some more appropriate and keyword rich alt text.
-
The page is missing a meta description. Although not a big impact on SEO, it's useful to show in the search engines so that users have an idea of what the site is about
-
You need to start building some quality inbound links to the site. The beginners guide above has a good section on this. Make sure the links are high quality, perhaps guest blogging. You could also submit the site once it's cleaned up to some quality directories such as Yahoo Directory and Best of the Web. Avoid spammy directories.
-
Is there an incentive to donate a paper? I can't see one at the moment. Maybe you want to be creative and award users points or something similar to attract paper submissions.
-
There's no text on the home page describing what your site is about. You need to have an informative and eye catching blurb to describe the page. You can then drop the odd keyword in here and use it to hook people in so they don't just bounce straight back off your site.
-
Create an XML sitemap
-
If you want to restrict Google's bots to access certain sections, create a robots.txt file in the root directory.
I would definitely consult the guide at the top of this response, it should help no end; it also contains useful links to other useful articles on how to optimise a page well and build links effectively.
I hope this helps

Does sending ecom traffic away from a site impact rankings?
I have a client that represents a few big brands but doesn't offer ecommerce capability onsite, they essentially send traffic to retailers and distributors that do sell their products online - they even point to an amazon store that they own. My question is, if they did offer ecom and the conversions took place on their site, rather than direct traffic away from them, would this impact on their rankings at all?

Duplicate Content from on Competitor's site?
I've recently discovered large blocks of content on a competitors site that has been copy and pasted from a client's site. From what I know, this will only hurt the competitor and not my client since my guy was the original. Is this true? Is there any risk to my client? Should we take action? Dino

Reducing the site's header to get more content Above the Fold
The user bizzer posted the following question on the post (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/guide-to-ads😞 "I've got my above the fold area very light on advertising since Panda. But reading #4 about the "template" makes me wonder if I should go further and reduce the height of my header area and maybe even remove one of my two sidebars, so as to increase the content-to-template ratio above the fold. Make sense?" What do you think?

Site Wide Link
I have just run up the link explorer on my site and discovered that every page home page link points back with the text home - I assume this is bad in terms of SEO , my site name is ccie and I assumed that it put the site wide link of ccie to the entire site, however it seems to be the breadcrumb default of home which is doing it/. www.rogerperkin.co.uk/ccie Should I be looking to change this so my top keyword points back from each page to the home page. I am running wordpress and assumed the site name was the home link on all pages. Can anyone advise the best practice? Thanks

Good Internal Site Structure Idea?
Hello SEOMoz, After reading a bunch of your Site Structure articles, I've decided to make ours more flat. There are numerous pages on our site which are linked to directly from our homepage, wasting mysterious amounts of Link Juice every day. I want to remove most of these links so that the Fewer, and now more heavily weighted, Homepage Links will be more powerful... but I am worried that the pages which I am knocking down to the 3rd tier level already have high rank and are distributing this Juice to other pages. The problem is that 3 of these 9 pages are great for assisting our sales team, so I cannot take those 2 links off of the homepage...so I will be forced to Nofollow them instead. I am worried this is cutting down the number of pages on the site, also cutting out content which was previously indexed. Is this whole thing a good idea at all? And should I just leave those 2 pages alone because I can't remove the link? I'm thinking maybe I should rel=canonical it back to the homepage? I am ultimately trying to rank the homepage for the keyword "POS Software" and this is my on-site strategy for it. Maybe adding a link from those 2 pages that say "POS Software" back to the homepage is the best bet in this scenario? I am trying to learn the absolute best thing to do instead of guessing. Thanks! Derek

Seasonal site structure
Bit of a complicated one for anyone who likes a challenge.. We sell a range of products which are very seasonal, so therefore have a seasonal section within the store with the products categorized into their relevant categories. In additon to this i wanted to also create a feature of each season so in effect pull forward on to a new tab the relevant season ie: Valentine so that customers didn't have to hunt for the products by going via seasonal shop etc The problem is that my site urls display last-category/product-title so in effect as the seasons change these urls will be deleted. They do remain elsewhere in our catalogue.. Does this make sense?
