I was typing this out earlier in preparation for an upcoming podcast about backlinks. I might as well share it with you to answer the first part of your question, hopefully it helps you.
These are very basic replies, I normally use them to ad-lib.
[What Are Backlinks?]
What are backlinks? Backlinks, also known as inbound links or incoming links, are simply links from one website to another. These links are like pathways that connect one webpage to another, and they play a pivotal role in search engine optimization (SEO).
[Why Are Backlinks Important?]
But why do backlinks matter? Well, backlinks are important because search engines like Google view them as a vote of confidence. When other websites link to your content, it's a signal to search engines that your content is valuable, credible, and authoritative. This, in turn, can improve your website's rankings in search results.
[What Types of Backlinks Are Valuable?]
Not all backlinks are created equal. There are different types of backlinks, and some are more valuable than others. For instance, editorial backlinks from reputable websites in your niche tend to carry more weight than random directory listings. We'll explore this in detail later in the episode.
If you want to follow the podcast please do. It's pretty new and I'd appreciate more subs.
Regards the analysis tool, you can learn more about what Google likes about your competitors websites. Take the links they have pointing back to their site and go setup the same citations, directory listings, backlinks back to your site to even things up. This is certainly one way I like to use competitor analysis.
Thanks, I hope this helps in some way or another.
