You said it all yourself really, it is not the best practice. And yes I did do this on one of my blogs a few years ago, beyond the fact that there was no real movement in the SERPs for that keyword it was quite pointless. Best to leave your business name and let that be that.

Completely agree with everything said here except for the "OSE = quality, webmaster tools = quantity" bit... Maybe we redefine it as OSE is simply not as good/consistent or as reliable as webmaster tools? Just maybe.

Maybe I might say fly by night directories are dead but I won't entirely say directories are dead... The real directories, the ones that actually understood the meaning of running a directory like DMOZ, BOTW and a few others I won't bother to mention are definitely not dead.

They still make up for some very valuable links in any link profile in my honest opinion. They still work... Very well if I might add.

If you do want to run a directory and its niche specific and properly managed I think it's a swell idea if you have your marketing properly planned out.

I am very big on WordPress, after reading the title I was hoping I would be able to just hand you an answer after I read the full details of your requirements... But as it turns out, in all my years of playing around with WordPress I am yet to see a plugin that will optimize your tag pages that way.

My suggestion would be that you hire a decent WordPress dev from codecanyon to help you with a custom plugin for this. Other than that, this plugin is not currently available on the market in either paid or open source version. You have to make your own.

PS- I am guessing you saw something similar on a bigger soccer website somewhere?

I do believe this is not currently possible with OSE. I see the top pages tab - I see the page authority, social shares and inbound links... But that's about it with OSE. As far as I know... I'd be interested in seeing what the staff here have to say about this one.

Talk about reading everyone's mind... I should point out though that Rand mentioned above that moz was working on a new real time tool like the ones we have seen elsewhere. I think a little patience might solve everyone's problems.

Say you had to go with only 1 option here, both are very respected and a lot of sub categories have High DA and yada yada yada. Which one would you pick?

Deciding between directories like joeant and FFS is easy because I can just use site explorer to make my decision.... It's a bit harder for Yahoo and BOTW because of the sheer amount you are expected to shell out yearly. Anyone with experiences with either or both directories please share.

I did notice no new links added to a number of projects in the last 2 months and I was wondering what went wrong. Thanks for clearing up the issue with this post. We look forward to the resolution.
