Click-to-call mobile event tracking
Hello!
I want to track calls on mobile devices from a website.
I was able to successfully set up an event with Google Analytics that tracks when a user clicks the phone # on the website, however, as you know, when someone clicks a phone # using iOS it prompts a display of the # and gives the users two options, Cancel or Call.
My question: is there any way to track when the user clicks the 'Call' action?
Thanks

RE: Google box
You could try using Schema to mark up the address on your website.
Does it show up when [brand name] is searched on it's own?

RE: Best practice for setting up multiple Google Places listings?
Chris is absolutely right.
Here's a tip: For each Google+ Location create a separate landing page on your website to associate it with and in the 'website' section on Google+ use the landing page URL, instead of simply your domain name. This is standard best practice when dealing with multiple business locations.
-
RE: How do I find associations between two businesses?
Wesley,
Have you tried adding the suite number to your listing? I would try to add that and then also build more citations around the web with the exact same Name, Address (with suite #) and Phone Number. Use the MozLocal tool to find opportunities.
Also, when dealing with multiple locations, you should set up specific pages on your website (let's call them 'location landing pages') and associate those to each corresponding Google+ page. I see that you have the 'thetattaway.com' listed as the website for both Google+ pages I could find.

RE: Why isn't my homepage number #1 when searching my brand name?
100% agree. It's going to take some time. Right now Google doesn't really understand that term as a brand name and the search results are a bit wacky in my opinion. You shouldn't have a problem moving up.
The more backlinks you earn with 'primepair' as the anchor text, the better off you will be.
Good luck!

RE: Google is not taking the title I set
Keszi is correct.
This happens frequently with WordPress and having brand names in the title tag. Google will often push a brand name (or whatever it believes is the brand name) to the beginning of the title tag.

RE: Best Practices
Sorry I missed this!
If you have your website architecture set up well you can always request Google to index a page and all pages that it links to. You'll see this option when you click the Submit to index button. You won't have to submit a substantial amount of individual pages this way.
I personally would keep an eye the pages of most value. These are the pages you are optimizing for that show up in the search results and are generating traffic.
Hope this helps.

RE: Address On Every page for e-Commerce site?
I'd say go with whatever you believe is best for the user. For e-commerce, you most likely do not need the physical address to be on every page, but I guess there could be some exceptions. I do believe you _should _have it somewhere, like you mentioned having it on a contact page.
Go with your gut!

RE: Best Practices
If you have internal links pointing to the page with the new/updated content Google will eventually find it, however, the quickest way to have this happen is to request a crawl in Google Webmaster Tools.
Under Crawl > Fetch as Google
Once the status of the page loads, you should see a button labeled Submit to index. Click this to submit the page to be indexed.
There are free tools available to find out the last time Google indexed (crawled) a specific page. I personally use the free SEO Book Toolbar. I believe Moz's free toolbar does this as well but I could be wrong.

RE: # code not detected
Can you provide the URL?
Grobro is most likely right. If you have an opening
tag before your
tag, the closing
should be after your closing .

RE: Thoughts on Google's Autocomplete hurting organic SEO?
Hi Thomas,
Just wanted to chime in. That's a good question, and I don't know of such data that is out there, but you could always use Google's Keyword Planner tool to get average volume of searches for the branded search terms that Google is suggesting in auto-complete.
You can also use this tool here to find suggested search terms to look at volume. The terms this tool pulls are actually just what Google suggests, aka auto-complete terms.
Good luck!

RE: Google Local listing variations
Hi there,
It's very common for Google to display this type of information for someone searching a brand name, specifically one that has a Google+ listing set up like in your case.
Google tries to show the most relevant information as per the user's intent. So, for example, if someone is searching 'marketing clinic melbourne' all of the results shouldn't be specific to just one brand, even if your website is showing up #1.
Does this make sense?

RE: Will the use of lightbox affect SEO?
The most important thing that would affect SEO in this case is whether or not that hidden content can be indexed. If it's HTML text Google _should _be able to read it, but it's not a guarantee.
If you have Google Webmaster Tools set up, use the Fetch as Google tool under **Crawl **in the sidebar. This will show what Google is seeing when it crawls your webpage.
Hope this helps!

RE: Does a link in facebook count as a backlink?
Links via social media are traditionally "no follow". Facebook and Twitter follow this convention.
-
RE: Google Local Listing
In short, yes, off-page SEO for local listings is similar to off-page for your website.
When deciding to link to your website or a local listing page I always consider the user first. There may be instances when it makes more sense to link to your Google+ page instead of website, for example, to provide location information / directions quicker.
You should definitely put some effort into creating backlinks to your Google+ page but from my experience, as far as ranking goes, the authority (and amount of quality links) to your web domain is a greater factor.
Hope this steers you in the right direction!

RE: Backlinking
Hi there,
Q1. I would monitor the amount of links you add and also make sure that you aren't overusing the same anchor text. This could potentially come up as a red flag to Google even if the links are quite natural.
Q2. That technique does sound a bit spammy. If you are trying hard to relate back to your website just for links, this too might be seen as shady by Google and other participants in the forum. I would continue to contribute but only mention / link to your website when it's absolutely necessary to make your point.
Hope this was helpful!

RE: Should I link G+ and social accounts to internal pages?
Hi Wayne,
When dealing with multiple locations, it's best to link location specific Google+ pages to the location pages you have set up on your website.
Laura had great answer for a similar question here: http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-best-use-schema-tags-for-multiple-locations
Hope this helps!

RE: Is there a way to EDIT the description that appears under my sitelinks?!
Hello!
There's no way to tell Google exactly what to display under Sitelinks. What I'm seeing for the keyword you provided is a mix of meta descriptions and text on the actual pages.
For example, under SEO Packages I'm seeing: "Go through our SEO packages to see what best suits your business.", which is actually part of your meta description. It seems like Google was smart enough to shorten your meta description and take that bit so it fits in the Sitelink description.
Maybe try to construct your meta descriptions in this same fashion if you are really concerned about the Sitelinks descriptions. Seems to have worked for that specific page!
Best of luck

RE: Best practice for H1 on site without H1 - Alternative methods?
Hey there!
I'm assuming that you don't have a static homepage in WordPress, meaning that you can't edit it under 'pages' and add an H1.
You'll have to find the home / index template under Appearance > Editor and add an H1 there.
Hope this steers you in the right direction!

RE: Pages I don't want
Delete the pages and if they are still showing up in Google's index 301 redirect them to home.

RE: Not displaying the address and its effect on local rankings.
Does he have a strong reason why he is so against displaying his address?
Your conclusion about showing up in the local listings (7-pack, or what have you) is definitely right. Without an address on Google Maps and other citations confirming the address you don't really stand a chance. I think you just have to keep reminding the client that they are a local business and how important citations really are for local SEO.
You may still be able to rank organically (aside from the local listings), but again, if you are optimizing for geo-targeted keywords, it's going to be a challenge.
PPC can sometimes be beneficial in addition to SEO efforts, however, I wouldn't suggest putting all your time / money into it. We have clients in similar industries and the majority of the traffic is organic. This channel simply cannot be ignored.
Hope this info helps a bit!

RE: My Last Question Regarding URLs - I Promise...
Hi Gary,
I would go with the exact keyword matches in these scenarios. I don't see a problem with it because it looks like you are optimizing pages for a very specific product. Whatever you think makes more sense for the user usually makes sense to search engines. I also don't think your URLs are too long.
Did you check out this weeks Whiteboard Friday on Information Architecture? It might clear some things up.
Hope that's helpful!

RE: New feature in seo results with icon?
It's not a new feature or anything. They've somehow added that text character directly to the beginning of their title tag. If you look at the source code the character looks like a box, but if you copy paste it somewhere, it shows that it's a green check mark character.
Good catch! Very tricky indeed.

RE: Does name of town in title tag help if queries don't include the town name?
I've pondered that same question and have never found research data that really supports it one way or another. I usually add the location in title tags for the highest authority pages. Our philosophy is that it does help for geo specific queries, which we believe is important, and doesn't necessarily hurt the ability to rank in a location when someone uses a non-geo specific query.
One thing you may have noticed is that the results are not identical for a geo specific term vs searching a term with a geo location set (or Google recognizing your location). You'll often see more national results and directory pages show up for the latter (ie. wikipedia, yelp, etc.) This is why it may appear to be harder to rank for non-geo specific terms, when in reality, Google is showing more national results.
Of course, as Patrick hinted, there are a lot of other local ranking factors that you should focus on. On thing I'll add to that list is to use schema.org HTML markup tags to the location on your website.
Hope this steers you in the right direction!

RE: I am trying to finish my profile, but I have a problem with face book I did copy and pased but it didnt work.
Hello Parvaneh!
If you are referring to your Moz profile, you cannot add the full URL to add your link to Facebook. Instead, just add **ParvaneFashionAccessories **in the Facebook field. Moz has the link set up to already add the first part, facebook.com/
Hope this was helpful!

RE: Does Google Still support Hyphened Domains for Exact Match or not?
As far as I know that iteration would still be considered an 'exact match' domain, however, a lot industry experts have speculated and agree that their effectiveness is diminishing. In other words, ranking for exact match keywords using an exact match domain isn't as effective for getting a ranking boost as it used to be. That's some old school SEO right there.
Hope this helps!

RE: Getting listing in Google map results
Sounds like you are in a very high competition area.
I believe that reviews play a big part in moving up for Google maps listings. Reviews reinforce credibility and trust to users so Google likes showing companies with these first to provide the best results for their searchers.
Also, keep working on verifying other local listings besides Google. The more credible listings you have set up with consistent Name, Address, Phone Number (and website!), the better you'll be off.
Here's a good start: http://moz.com/learn/local
Good luck with everything!

You are correct, it is part of the knowledge graph. I believe you are referring specifically to the infamous Google Answer Box.

RE: 301 vs. keeping identical URL
First situation: for both options, in theory, you will be maintaining the same link power, however, I would choose option two. You won't have to worry about GoogleBot crawling the old URL to find the new one. Depending on the keywords you are targeting, you might lose some ground by changing the URL structure. If the old URL structure fits into your new web navigation model, I think you should stick with it to maintain the same results.
Second situation: if you feel that the pages aren't of valuable on their own I would 301 them to the one URL. If they made sense to keep from a user experience perspective you would want to add "rel=canonical" tags pointing to the one URL instead.
Hopefully that clears things up!

RE: Description on Google+ & ALL Citations the same or?
Doesn't have to be identical across all local citations. NAP and categories are more important. It's okay if they are similar but you should really tailor each description to the audiences that are engaging on each platform.
Hope that answers your Q!
-
RE: Why do I have 2 different URL's for the same page - is this good practice?
Hi Faye,
It looks like the 2nd URL you provided is already 301 redirecting to the first URL so you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Hope that helps!

RE: Best way to learn UX?
Hey!
Everyone has different learning styles so it's hard to suggest an absolute 'best way' to get into UX. If you're on twitter, I suggest following industry experts @jmspool and @lukew.
There are a lot of UX sites out there too. Page one for 'UX' or 'User Experience Design' on Google is a great start.
Because UX is so vast, you might want to get a sense of everything that encompasses it and then decide what aspects you really want to dive into. For example, you might find user research and usability testing boring but really be interested in Information Architecture or Interaction Design and focus on that.
It's definitely a smart idea to start to get more familiar with UX even if you don't plan on turning it into a career. UX already is a huge part of SEO in my opinion and is only going to become more important.
Best of luck!

RE: Getting listing in Google map results
Are they completely not showing up at all or just not in the "page one 7 pack" or carousel? (depending on the industry/query).
You may have to wait a bit. To accelerate the process I would work on auditing all local listings for the business to make sure the NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) is consistent across the board. Reviews also might help!
Good luck!

RE: Google Indexing Wrong Title
Hi there!
This is a common occurrence for WordPress websites and specifically for home page title tags. Google will often show different variations of titles or completely new titles based on the searchers intent. It makes sense if someone is searching your brand name but it can become frustrating when you want valuable keywords towards the beginning of the title tag instead of your brand name.
Some people argue that this doesn't affect rankings, as in Google is still indexing your proper title tag but is just choosing to display it differently. I personally think the opposite. I've gotten this problem fixed before and have seen better ranking results.
With that said, I would try different variations of your current title to see if Google will accept them. Something like: "TV Online | Assistir Filmes | Notícias | Futebol - GogsTV" or you could work the brand name into the title like "GogsTV Online | Assistir Filmes | Notícias | Futebol."
Hope this helps!

RE: Homepage ranks worse than subpages
Hi!
Try messing around with your home page title tag. It's displaying as "Mach7 Technologies: Enterprise Imaging Solutions" for me in the SERPs. Google loves pushing brand names towards the beginning of the title tag and valuable keywords further away. Switch it up and see what Google likes. Even something like "Mach7 Enterprise Imaging Solutions" might bump you up a tad.
Also, Google isn't preferring the meta description you added to the page. It's using "Explore our award-winning enterprise imaging solutions and find out how an image management strategy can consolidate data access and sharing across the ..." from your home page. Try some variations of that so that the meta description doesn't get cut off in the search results.
Worth a shot! Good luck

RE: 2 pages optimised for same keyword... what should I do?
We have you at positions 7 & 8 now, which is a little surprising to be honest. It looks like you have done a solid job with on-page SEO, however, the amount of links pointing to either pages is low compared to the competition on page one.
I'm thinking that you may have inadvertently moved yourself up by having us search this term and most likely click on your webpages.
Either way, you're on page 1 now!
-
RE: Is this PPC claim true?
Hi!
A competitor of yours might bid on terms associated with your brand to try to steal some of your branded search traffic. While this is not always the case, if you find it to be true it might make sense to continue spending to maintain those higher ad positions in order to keep most of your branded search traffic.
Does that make sense? Hope that helps!

RE: Forcing Google to Crawl a Backlink URL
Ahhhh, that's a bummer.
Well, you could try to submit a URL from the .gov site that isn't as buried but links to the URL you want crawled.
You could try emailing someone that manages the website, giving them a helpful reminder that they have quality pages not being indexed regularly by Google
Good luck!
