Nothing is linked until I 301

We're using Vbulletin and we do really want the rest of page to get indexed. I'll just link back to them then. Thanks to both of you!

What kind of hosting packages are you looking for? Because I know a great dedicated server host in Germany, but they only do dedicated servers.

I mean that your main site and the seperate sites you're creating for link juice should not be on the same host. I've seen people link to themselves like that way too much and in my experience it doesn't work out well.

Quick example of how I did the hosting:

1. Main site is hosted somewhere in the middle-east
2. The 7 other sites are hosted with Arvixe, in the US

This way they're not connected in any way and they look like completely different sites that don't share anything.

I have a site where we post quite a lot of info from other sites. We don't want google to de-index our pages because parts of it are quotes from other sites. What would you use to make it so Google sees it's a quote from another site? Or to just make Google not index the quote?

Okay, I would do it like this:

1. Copy the content from site A to site B
2. 301 the pages from site A to site B
3. Post new content on site A

This will work, unless your content is on the front page of site A. That's all I could think of but I could of course be wrong. Any more experienced Mozzers that know more about this?

Do you have full control over website a? Because you might want to 301 it then.

I've done something sort of like this before so I'm sure my story gives you some insight.

I have a big forum that I do SEO for a lot and we were looking to rank our new sections for their respected keywords. Now, instead of fighting the big competitors we have by just building links, we decided to make multiple websites with the exactly keywords in the domain names. This way we ended up with 7 .com, exact match domain names. We filled these up with content and did some small SEO on them. After about two weeks they were all ranking in the top 3 for their keywords where my main site was nowhere to be found. We kept the sites there for about a month, and then 301'd them to our main site which led to our main site being in the top 5 after a week, and on rank 1 after three weeks and some extra linking.

When it comes to just having the domain names I wouldn't do it like that, I'd fill them up with content, do some quick link building for them, and then 301 them. This way you'll get their link juice and you don't have to do too much SEO for it.

Notes:

1. Get completely different hosts for the other domains
2. Make sure they're exact match, or at least close to it, otherwise it's not all that useful, they need to give you an advantage
3. Make sure the content you post on the sites is of high quality so you don't look spammy.

I'm not 100% if this is the best way to do it, but this is the way I did it and I had great success with it so I hope it helps!

1. We didn't actually do a 404, we 301'd everything, and I do mean everything, to our new domain.

4. Nothing changed except for ads, which we placed better, the site speed is the same because we didn't move hosts. It actually improved lately because of someone we hired to optimize the site's speed. The backlinks coming in have transfered and we are building new ones. The thing is, the site itself is ranking really well for its new keywords, it's just these old ones that apparently have died

260,000 threads indeed, they go back to 2006 though, so we've had some time to get posts.

Throwing those PR5 links in there would help of course, but where to I point them at? How deep do I link? I could link to all the 260,000 threads but I believe that would be a little crazy.

Almost two months now.

We've checked Google webmasters for 404 and crawl errors which we all fixed a day after moving. I can't check all the pages in SEOMoz tools because of the limit. We did do a complete 301 actually, redirecting every page to its new location.

Hey there guys,

I was recently hired to do SEO for a big forum to move the site to a new domain and to get them back up to their ranks after this move. This all went quite well, except for the fact that we lost about 1/3rd of our traffic. Although I expected some traffic to drop, this is quite a lot and I'm wondering what it is. The big keywords are still pulling the same traffic but I feel that a lot of the small threads on the forums have been de-indexed. Now, with a site with 260,000 threads, do I just take my loss and focus on new keywords? Or is there something I can do to get all these threads re-indexed?
