How to stop Search Bot from crawling through a submit button
-
On our website http://www.thefutureminders.com/, we have three form fields that have three pull downs for Month, Day, and year. This is creating duplicate pages while indexing. How do we tell the search Bot to index the page but not crawl through the submit button?
Thanks

Hi Dan
What is happening is this - since we have all the months [12], all the dates [31] and years[1921 through 2011] in the form fields, the robot seems to be taking these incrementally and then using the submit button. After the submit button, user is presented with a registration page. While we do want the search to index the rest of the page and the crawl through the rest of the page links we do not want it to crawl through that submit button. I hope I am making sense.

The advantage of blocking a page from being indexed via a meta tag is it is less likely to have unexpected consequences. I've often seen in the past cases where an incorrectly modified robots.txt file leads to a site being blocked by accident.

Hi
To my knowledge, you don't stop it from crawling through the button (like a nofollowed link), rather you block the robot at the page it ends up on after clicking submit.
Say the user hits submit and it takes them to mydomain.com/confirm.html On that page you'll want to add;
....if you want it to NOT index the page but follow the links on it.
or
...if you want it to NOT index and NOT follow the links on that page.
Its advised that its better to do this with the meta tag than in robots.txt.
Hopefully I've understood the question correctly!

Block the pages/folders you do not wish to be indexed with robots.txt file:
User-agent: * Disallow: /folder1/ Disallow: /folder2/
OR you can add canonical tags to the other pages which are creating duplicate content.

Are there specific meta tags I can add into my images so that my images will show up on each tab?
Do those filters just show content based on image keywords or something else? IRme7gQ0 -
Parked domain is first in search results
We have several brand related domains which are parked and pointing to our main website. Some of these websites are redirecting using a 302 (don't ask, that's a whole other story), but these are being changed. But it shouldn't matter what type of redirect they are no? Since there has never been any traffic and they are not indexed? But it seems that one of them was indexed: exotravel.vn. A search for our brand name or the previous brand name (exotravel and exotissimo) brings up this parked domain first! How can that be? The domain has never been used and has no backlinks. exotravel.vn is redirecting and I submitted a change of address weeks ago to Google, but its still coming up first in all brand name searches for exotissimo or exotravel.

Ajax Optimization in Mobile Site - Ajax Crawling
I'm working on a mobile site that has links embedded in JavaScript/Ajax in the homepage. This functionality is preventing the crawlers for accessing the links to mobile specific URLs. We're using an m. sub-domain. This is just an object in the homepage with an expandable list of links. I was wondering if using the following solution provided by Google will be a good way to help with this situation. https://developers.google.com/webmasters/ajax-crawling/ Thanks!

Should component pages be visible in the search result?
Hi everyone, My question is suppose i have a blog having 200 pages arranged in footer like seomoz blog and when i move to 2nd page and say the url is http://www.seomoz.org/blog?page=2 and when i search exact url on google should this page be visible in search result or not. Since all component pages of seomoz blog are visible, i think this should not be a problem but when i see other popular blogs like SEJ and seroundtable none of their component pages are visible in search result. By the way i am using rel=prev and next but not robots: noindex, follow

Explain this search result
Hi folks, I came across a strange search result. Search on Google Australia for "income portfolio". http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=income+portfolio See the first result? It's a login page. How is that search result showing? And in position #1! Where is it getting its title and descriptions tags from? Does Google have a way to somehow see what is behind the login? Appreciate your thought.

Search snippet ignors title tag :-(
Good Morning from 1 degrees C light drizzle Wetherby UK 😉 Ok here is todays puzzle. When I Google "Great Inns" ( http://www.greatinns.co.uk ) I get a search snippet which looks like this: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/great-inns-title-glitch.jpg As the screen grab illustrates the Title tag is missing and simply says untitled. So my questions is pleased why is google rendering this when in the source code there is a tag eg: <title>Great Inns of Britain - Home – Independent, Historic Inns, Quality Service Any insights welcome :-)</p></title>

Blocking Google from Crawling Parameters
Hi guys: What is the best way to keep Google from crawling certain urls with parameters? I used the setting in Webmaster Tools, but that doesn't seem to be helping at all. Can I use robots.txt or some other method? Thanks!
