Facbook like button - where to?
-
Hey I own a few websites and always wondering whats better in terms of SEO.
Having a like button directed to my website or having it directed to a fan page of my website.
Looks like most Seo tools count the "directed to website". is it because its easier? or is it because its better to SEO?
Thanks
Idoz

Hope I've helped.
If you were on about the benefit to your page rankings from having a like button then there isn't one - but that is not the point of the facebook like/share button.
What's the URL?

Yup you are right... if the aim is traffic then this should do.. having them as fans can also contribute but probably not as much as sharing my link on their new feed.
From what i read and see getting your website shared a lot can increase ranking in SERP. Lets see how that will go..
Thanks!

In your case definitely the share/like button. A fixed link to be facebook page would not really benefit as it does not require any interaction. Just a link to a page. What you need is to encourage them to "challenge" their friends and the share/like button would achieve this - or give free points/games/bonuses for sharing/liking. A like/share by a user causes a post to appear on there news feed and all their friends would see it and thus give you a chance of more people clicking it and thus getting traffic.

Hey thanks for the replay.. but in my case this is pretty useful. its a website for games.. and we all know the importance of social and sharing in this niche. I mean you can find yourself getting more traffic from references then from search engines.
So if im already adding it, i would like to know if there is a difference between the 2 options in terms of seo.

It might be worth asking your yourself if you need it at all - I consult for a specialist shoe company with older clients/customers and I think their is no benefit in going mad on integrating social buttons on there website as who is going to share a link for an pair of shoes for an old person.
Ask yourself what you are trying to achieve? Why do you think you want the button? Are your website visitors going to use it. It might be better to have a footer link to your facebook page and put something else there like a free delivery button or price match.
If you go with the footer link make it a no follow link.
Just an idea

Will the articles or blog-posts will get more visibility and do better in ranking by publishing them in different formats like videos?
Hi all, I just wonder how much the different formats of an actual content will bring more ranking improvement or visibility for an article or blog-post or landing page. If a topic has been created in video and slides, will that helps landing page at Google technically? Thanks

Wow, I can get a lot of Facebook likes quickly!
I did some testing with Facebook ads and resulting Facebook likes on target pages. And something is wrong! Just after creating the ad, before the ad was approved, I could get many likes on the target page without even seeing any traffic on server logs or google analytics. I documented my tests here. I repeated the tests 6 times, every time I could get tens of likes on the target page within seconds and without any approval of the ad. These pages have little traffic and there's no way these likes could have been natural! Everyone I reported was able to reproduce it, try yourself. A little update. I found others reporting un-expected Likes pouring... But at least they were "running" the ad, so externals to Facebook could have seen it and decided to Like it to later offer "liking" service as reported from this fellow. But in my case the ad was not approved... So... Who can see it beside me and Facebook?

Facebook Likes gone through the roof
Howdy, We have seen our Facebook Likes increase by a staggering 20k in a week. At the beginning of last week we were sat at around 21k and it has been steadily increasing, but just 7 days later we now have 42k - Has their been some sort of algorithm change for this to happen, or should I be suspicious that something is not quite right? Thanks, James

Should my Facebook like button be for my Facebook page or my webpage?
I am curious as to people's opinion about the Facebook like button you add to a given website. It would seem with the increased influence of social media indicators that you would want to have people "like" your webpage (as opposed linking the like back to your Facebook page) when they go to your webpage, but this dilutes the number of likes you get at both Facebook and your webpage. It is my understanding that people are more likely to "like" a page that already has a lot of "likes." As most of my clients are very small businesses, this is a significant consideration as their "like" volumes are very low by default (i.e., if you only have a few hundred people who even use your business it is hard to get thousands of likes). Thanks for your opinion!

Facebook Like Wall
Here is a Facebook question: I would like to hide some content behind a Facebook wall - i.e. only make it visible to users who press the like button. Something like the New Yorker did with a Jonathan Franzen story. My question is: how do I do that? Thanks! Thomas
