Contact Forms Vs Email Enquiries
-
This is a usability question more than SEO but I thought this community would be the one to ask.
Are completed conversion rates generally higher for contact forms or email enquiries?
I try to encourage our clients to have short contact forms where possible to ensure the first contact (ask questions later).
Personally an email seems like a giant daunting and potentially irrelevant enquiry that could get lost in the plethora of spam emails flying around. Also half the time I start the email and then give up.
-
The phone number is the most prominent...
Right... slap their face with what you want them to do.
-
For the specific client I had in mind, although the enquiries have doubled in the past year they still only get less than 70 a month which I don't think warrants the weeding. 100+ and I completely agree. The phone number is the most prominent, as the only method of contact featured in the page header.
-
Talk to the clients to find out what essential pieces of information should be gathered to respond to the client properly..... or essential information to weed out the time wasters....
..... but some people have a different style and just like to get them on the phone.
Talk to the client about this. You will get a different answer every time. Some of them might have never thought of information gathering or weeding.

Are completed conversion rates generally higher for contact forms or email enquiries?
I agree with William. I think industry, type of form and many factors impact this. Personally, I like contact forms (because I'm to impatient to wait the two seconds for my email client to come up) and move on to email later. However, if it's a general contact form and I have an email to customer service (and need that department) I would just send to the email address.

This can be different for every industry. I'd try using split testing the two and see which one converts better.
You can try full forms, short forms, email only forms.
Try using Google's website optimizer or other split testing tools to try out the different methods.

How to track conversions from a third party email campaign?
Heyy.. New to the Moz community, first question so here goes! I'm going to be running an email campaign with an e-magazine and I want to know how to track conversions from the email they're sending out so I can monitor success/failure. I've found Google's URL builder:

Email before Download or Not?
I'm designing an exhibition stand at the moment and am going to be putting QR codes that link to a technical specification on the products. The question is - do I just allow them to download the pdf or do I ask for a name and email address before they can do that. As its an exhibition stand I should get the business cards anyway - but to know exactly what products each person is interested in would help I'm not sure how many people use QR codes in Asia, have a QR code readers..... and would adding the email request just be too much? Whats your opinion? The product is an industrial one and mainly engineers and procurement types from the oil and gas industry will be visiting the stand.

Shopify vs BigCommerce vs Lemonstand vs Yahoo
Have any of you moz folks recently had experience deciding where to build a small ecommerce site and had considered the following: Shopify Big Commerce Lemonstand Yahoo Our site has been on Yahoo for 12 years. And I've seen designers the last several really complain about the limitations of customizing Yahoo stores and the checkout pages. Going to be creating a new ecommerce site for jewelry and thinking we should consider another platform. Things like built in responsive design, ability to customize checkout, customize store easily without RTML (Yahoo proprietary language - not many developers use it), ability to scale up if needed, but affordable for entry, conversion optimization best practices built in, ability for good seo built in without having to use 3rd party. (Another crappy limitation of Yahoo stores is that they do NOT support a blog as part of the domain, ie, www.domain.com/blog.html which is much better for seo than their way - blog.domain.com) I read on Rich Page's blog that he likes BigCommerce. I've spoken with Lemonstand and they have a lot of fashion sites using their new platform, and I'm seeing lots of new sites spring up using Shopify. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure there are a bunch of folks like me that have similar decisions to make now. Thanks! Ron

Does anyone have a form solution which would allow for specific website visitor information (keywords, path, etc...from Google Analytics), to be passed to a form submitted by that user which could be passed to a Zoho CRM lead record?
Looking for form analytics which offers: security, CSS integration, capture of Google Analytics data, integration with Zoho CRM.

How can I track the traffic source/keyword of form submissions?
I'm using Google Analytics on www.nhfinehomes.com and would like to track the source of leads submitted via form submissions. Ideally, I could track if the lead originated from organic search (and what keyword phrase), PPC, referral links, etc. Is this possible with Google Analytics and if so, can anyone point to some documentation on how to do this or better yet someone who can help me set this up? This site is running ASP.NET and uses JQuery so there is not a 'traditional' thank you page that I can reference. I'm not a programmer and do not pretend to be one! Thanks in advance. Link
