Multilingual site - Best choice?
-
Quick question for a site that has the same content but in a different language (not machine translated) on seperate pages.
Say I have:www.mydomain.com (which is in English)
www.mydomain.com/ES (which is in Spanish)
www.mydomain.com/NL (which is in Dutch)I don't want to limit the ie. Spanish to only Spain so geotargeting isn't necessary
What is the best/correct setup for the pages?

I think that the proper way to do it is through budget primarily
if you can afford to build a website that is going to be able to geo-target using the right TLD for whatever country I would utilize geo-DNS to accomplish this however I would create new content for each page the reason for this is because of the
hreflang
issue talked about here

you may also utilize tools from http://www.neustarlocaleze.biz/directory/clarity.aspx

Dear Philip,
You may also want to check out the SEO Cheat Sheet by Danny Dover:
http://moz.com/blog/the-web-developers-seo-cheat-sheet-2013-editionThe hreflang could also be used with or without geo targeting but would you want to target people in The netherlands for the NL lang? Then I would use it.
It all depends on your means to and end for what is best to be used
Regards
Jarno

You may find this video from Matt Cutts helpful - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyWx31GeQWY
There have been a few topics similar around here if you search.
Have you looked at extensions? (e.g .NL )

Personally I would do the structure you have mentioned above but refrain from using the geo targeting tool but it could get messy in the event of having UK and US versions?

How to Localise per Region (Europe, America, APAC, EMEI) and not per country as best SEO practise?
Hi SEO expertises! I am currently working with a client that initially have an English website targeting UK users but want to expand their market into four new regions (Europe, America, APAC and EMEI) keeping English as a main language. I would like to request your help here as I told the client ISO location and hreflang it will be just possible per language and they must need to localise each English region with local keywords, however I would like to double check if it will be any way (Sitemap, Hreflang) we can tell Google we are targeting per region and not per country? Thanks a lot!

What's the best homepage experince for an international site?
Greeting Mozzers. I have a question for the community, which I would appreciate your input on. If you have a single gTLD that services multiple countires, what do you think is the best homepage UX for the root homepage and why? So the example would be you own website www.company.org and target content to Germany, Japan and Australia with content through the folder structure eg. www.company.org/de-de If someone comes to the www.company.org from a region, would you: Redirect them based on location IP – so if from Germany they land on www.company.org/de-de Let them land on the homepage which offers location selection Let them land on a page with content and offer location selection eg. pop-up or obvious selection box Something I’ve not thought of… I'd appreciate your input. Thanks

Changing server location for a global targetted site
Hi, I am just in the process of purchasing a site from someone. The site has a global target audience (well global English speaking anyway). The site is on a .info domain and is currently hosted in Germany. Checking on SemRush it looks like 70% of traffic comes from English speaking countries (US, Australia, Canada, UK). Now I need to move the hosting to one of my own when I change ownership of the site. Now does it overly matter where I choose my hosting as currently it is hosted in Germany (around 4% of visitors from Germany) but I want to do my best not to knock any rankings but I was thinking of moving it to a UK or US based host but still want to keep a general worldwide userbase. As the US accounts for the largest part of traffic (39%) would I be best choosing hosting based over in the US or does it not overly matter too much (I am in the UK so most hosting I use is UK based). I have read a number of posts on server location but most seem to be for site which have a country specific target audience. Thanks for your help! 🙂

What is the best NAP format to use?
Canadian client with a suite number in a shopping center. Does it matter if the NAP is the way it's displayed on Google Maps? Canada Post (or in the US, USPS)? Or does it only matter that all the citations are as similar as possible to one another? Canada Post says: 400-3033 IMMEL ST

ABBOTSFORD BC V2S 6S2 But if I look that up on maps.google.com, it defaults to: 3033 Immel St Abbotsford, BC V2S 4L3, CanadaAnd the client does not appear in the list of about 20+ businesses at this address.Which should I use for Places (and I assume any other citation)?1 -
Best URL for international domain
Hello SEomozers We have a site with this structure: -www.xyz.com US customers, limited content in12 languages, -global.xyz.com for International customers, full content in 12 languages. The global site is the hub for the rest of the world. We are creating a new site from scratch and want to consolidate the two domains in one by using subfolders, such as: www.xyz.com for USA, www.wyz.com/jp for US customers reading in japanese and www.xyz.com/int-jp for customers from Japan (international - will set geo location with webmastertool) What do you think would be the best naming convention for the international?

How can I see what my web site looks like from a different country?
I've tried a few proxy tools to try to see how my site looks from other global locations, but haven't found one that works very well yet -- or a list of reliable proxies around the world. I need to do this to test various geo-targetted ads and other optimizations. Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks!
