Hey:
Migrating a site to a brand new domain after doing all the things to do doesn't guarantee you will keep all your rankings, but if the change is mandatory, and assuming you site will be the same (just a domain change) I suggest to:
- As you said, make sure you are doing a cross domain 301 redirect, so if someone is trying to request http://olddomain.com/fake-page-123 the user should be redirected to http://newdomain.com/fake-page-123. Usually you can do this in Apache servers modifying the .htaccess with this:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} olddomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]-
Make sure validate both domains in Google Search Console (and if in your market it's relevant, Bing Webmaster Tools) before migrate. After migrate, make a Change of Address Request from olddomain.com to newdomain.com
-
As usual, make sure your sitemap.xml it's up to date in the new domain and try to block all the innecesary pages on robots.txt to avoid spend your crawl budget (just if neccessary, in large site it's more common). Send them to Google through Google Search Console as soon as your site is migrated.
-
Optional: Before migration, would be great to check any 404 errors on the new site to address them when you migrate your site, I suggest to use:
-
Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools (Crawl Errors)
-
Screaming Frog search from broken links
-
Open Site Explorer from Moz (Top Pages) and if necesary in large sites, Majestic.com
-
Logs files
-
Google Analytics history (page views)
-
After gathering all this data, make sure the URLs are returning 404 with Screaming Frog, List Mode
Let me know if this is helpful for you.

This is a duplicate question - you have about 4-5 of almost the same question on the forum. Please don't cross-post or re-post. Almost every post on the forum gets at least a couple answers to please hold on and let us work our way there.
Thanks!

Hello,
As with any 301 redirect, you can expect to lose some part of your ranking potential provided by your link profile. Assuming you conduct your 301 correctly (each page being forwarded to a relevant, equivalent page), you will not lose out on any on-site ranking potential.
Numbers range in terms of how much you stand to lose from your link profile's ranking potential. From my research, the number sits somewhere between 1% and 10% - I always use 5% as an estimate.
Long story short, you will lose some ranking potential, although this may not be enough to lose actual rankings, depending on the strength of your website compared to your competition. You can expect to see a small dip, and it will be permanent if you do not conduct any continuing SEO. However, based on your question, I believe you are conducting regular SEO on your website, so these ranking dips should be temporary.
You can avoid this by attempting to push all links currently on your website to your new domain and regain some of this lost "link juice". I would also suggest pushing all links towards your new domain name moving forward to maximize your link profile ranking potential (obviously).
Hope this answers your question!
Best regards,
Rob

Migrating Subfolder content to New domain Safely
Hello everyone, I'm currently facing a challenging situation and would greatly appreciate your expertise and guidance. I own a website, maniflexa.com, primarily focused on the digital agency niche. About 3 months ago, I created a subfolder, maniflexa.com/emploi/, dedicated to job listings which is a completely different niche. The subfolder has around 120 posts and pages. Unfortunately, since I created the subfolder, the rankings of my main site have been negatively impacted. I was previously ranking #1 for all local digital services keywords, but now, only 2 out of 16 keywords have maintained their positions. Other pages have dropped to positions 30 and beyond. I'm considering a solution and would like your advice: I'm planning to purchase a new domain and migrate the content from maniflexa.com/emploi/ to newdomain.com. However, I want to ensure a smooth migration without affecting the main domain maniflexa.com rankings and losing backlinks from maniflexa.com/emploi/ pages. Is moving the subfolder content to a new domain a viable solution? And how can I effectively redirect all pages from the subfolder to the new domain while preserving page ranks and backlinks?

Hello All, My ecommerce site gone in penalty more than 3 years before and within 3 months I got message from google penalty removed. Since then till date my organic ranking is very worst. In this 3 years I improved my site onpage very great. If I compare my site with all other competitors who are ranking in top 10 then my onpage that includes all schema, reviews, sitemap, header tags, meta's etc, social media, site structure, most imp speed, google page speed insight score, pingdom, w3c errors, alexa rank, global rank, UI, offers, design, content, code to text raito, engagement rate, page views, time on site etc all my sites always good compare to competitors. They also have few backlinks I do have few backlinks only. I am doing very high google adwords and my conversion rate is very very good. But do you think because I am paying since last 3 year high to google because of that google have some setting or strategy that those who perform well in adwords so not to bring up in organic? Is it possible I can talk with google on this? If yes then what will be the medium of conversation? Pls give some valuable inputs I am performing very much in paid so user end site is very very well. Should we move a strong category page, or the whole domain to new domain?
We are debating moving a strong category page (and subcategory, product pages) from our current older domain to a new domain vs just moving the whole domain. The older domain has DA 40+, and the category page has PA 40+. Anyone with experience on how much PR etc will get passed to a virgin domain if we just redirect olddomain/strongcategorypage/ to newdomain.com? If the answer is little to none, we might consider just moving the whole site since the other categories are not that strong anyway. We will use 301 approach either way. Thanks!

Can a Hosting provider that also hosts adult content sites negatively affect our SEO rankings on a non-adult site hosted on same platform?
We're considering moving a site to a host that also offers hosting for adult websites. Can this have a negative affect on SEO, if our hosting company is in any way associated with adult websites?

I recently purchased a highly ranked domain. The link profile is very good and I don't want to lose to many links however I want to transfer my site to that domain. My Domain rank is falling but my traffic is improving?
I have been here for one month today and have been reworking many pages to improve my On-Page results for my site www.antiquebanknotes.com I have seen some really nice improvement in my organic, search and non paid keywords. (up 38%, 21% and 29% this week) But last week all of a sudden my domain authority dropped from 10 to 9. Not tragic but still odd since I have been getting some decent results from my optimazations. My competitors have domain authority in the 20's so it's something I am sure I need to work on. I have added links out to relevant sites and added lots of content but my domain authority falls? Is this common when a site makes lots of changes?
