Invest in a Image Sitemap - Yes or No?
-
Hey Mozers,
2 part question
-
I'm reaching out to see if you all think Image Sitemaps are totally worth it for a big company. I can totally understand its value for a smaller mom & pop company. With a larger company they would have way more products so is it worth it having an image site map?
-
I cant find examples of image sitemaps online. Would you be able to provide a website that is doing it? I can only find video sitemaps.

Hi Rodrigo,
Ah I didn't realise we're using XLST so you're not seeing the source code but only the marked up versions for the stye sheets. I would recommend to check the source code of this URL for example: http://thenextweb.com/post-sitemap71.xml it will show you the image:loc tags for almost every URL.
-
Yes,
mine site comes with this sitemap:
http://www.mobiliodevelopment.com/post-sitemap.xml
http://www.mobiliodevelopment.com/page-sitemap.xmlThey're automated generated from Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress.
PS: Just right click and select "View Source"

Thank you Oleg,
I appreciate your quick response. I do plan on move forward with image sitemaps but would you be able to provide any websites that are currently utilizing image sitemaps?
-
Thank you Peter,
Would you happen to be able to provide any actual websites that are utilizing image sitemaps? I cant seem to find any.
-
Hey Martijn,
Thank you for your response, our website is going to grow 10 folds soon and we are going to be coming across some crawl budgeting issues. I checked our your sitemap and its very sophisticated "Tip my hat". The only thing is I didn't see image urls within your sitemap.
-
- Yes, the bigger the company the more I'd say it would be worth it to look into as you probably will start having issues with crawl budget and driving authority to certain places on your site.
- In most sites images might already be embedded in a normal sitemap, you can check out ours at: http://thenextweb.com/sitemap_index.xml.
-
1. Yes - you should invest in image sitemap because this is fastest way for crawler to see changes in your site.
2. Here is it official documentation:

and here is XSD for this XML

Depends on if they have lots of high quality, unique, keyword optimized images that can drive traffic through image search.
Sample image sitemap: https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/sitemap_images.xml
There are lots of image sitemap generators available as well (free for smaller sites, not sure about larger sites). I like to use ScreamingFrog (paid) for large websites.

Is it worth creating an Image Sitemap?
We've just installed the server side script 'XML Sitemaps' on our eCommerce site. The script gives us the option of (easily) creating an image sitemap but I'm debating whether there is any reason for us to do so. We sell printer cartridges and so all the images will be pretty dry (brand name printer cartridge in front of a box being a favourite). I can't see any potential customers to search for an image as a route in to the site and Google appears to be picking up our images on it's own accord so wonder if we'll just be crawling the site and submitting this information for no real reason. From a quality perspective would Google give us any kind of kudos for providing an Image Sitemap? Would it potentially increase their crawl frequency or, indeed, reduce the load on our servers as they wouldn't have to crawl for all the images themselves?

I can't stress how little of a hardship it will be to create one of these automatically daily but am wondering if, like Meta Keywords, there is any benefit to doing so?1 -
Do you suggest I use the Yoast or the Google XML sitemap for my blog?
I just shut off the All-In-One seo pack plugin for wordpress, and turned on the Yoast plugin. It's great! So much helpful, seo boosting info! So, in watching a video on how to configure the plugin, it mentions that I should update the sitemap, using the Yoast sitemap I'm afraid to do this, because I'm pretty technologically behind... I see I have a Google XML Sitemaps (by Arne Brachhold) plugin turned on (and have had it for many years). Should I leave this one on? Or would you recommend going through the steps to use the Yoast plugin sitemap? If so, what are the benefits of the Yoast plugin, over the Google XML? Thanks!

Proper sitemap update frequency
I have 12 sitemaps submitted to Google. After about a week, Google is about 50% of the way through crawling each one. In the past week I've created many more pages. Should I wait until Google is 100% complete with my original sitemaps or can I just go ahead and refresh them? When I refresh the original files will have different URLs.

Any Good XML Sitemaps Generator?
I was wondering if everyone could recommend what XML Sitemap generators they use. I've been using XML-Sitemap, and it's been a little hit and miss for me. Some sites it works great, other it really has serious problems indexing pages. I've also uses Google's, but unfortunately it's not very flexible to use. Any recommendation would be much appreciated.

Mobile Sitemaps
We are planning on creating a mobile site using a different URL. Our current sitemap creator won't dynamically detect mobile pages using the rel="alternate" tag but can can create a Project for that domain in Sitemap Creator and use the "mobile" option when you export it. The Sitemap Creator will then insert the mobile:mobilecontent tag for all the URLs in that sitemap. </mobile:mobile> Is this okay or will it cause problems?

First Link Priority question - image/logo in header links to homepage
I have not found a clear answer to this particular aspect of the "first link priority" discussion, so wanted to ask here. Noble Samurai (makers of Market Samurai seo software) just posted a video discussing this topic and referencing specifically a use case example where when you disable all the css and view the page the way google sees it, many times companies use an image/logo in their header which links to their homepage. In my case, if you visit our site you can see the logo linking back to the homepage, which is present on every page within the site. When you disable the styling and view the site in a linear path, the logo is the first link. I'd love for our first link to our homepage include a primary keyword phrase anchor text. Noble Samurai (presumably seo experts) posted a video explaining this specifically http://www.noblesamurai.com/blog/market-samurai/website-optimization-first-link-priority-2306 and their suggested code implementations to "fix" it http://www.noblesamurai.com/first-link-priority-templates which use CSS and/or javascript to alter the way it is presented to the spiders. My web developer referred me to google's webmaster central: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66353 where they seem to indicate that this would be attempting to hide text / links. Is this a good or bad thing to do?
