Rebranding Sites
-
Our company just went through a rebranding and this includes the web sites. We have a new website (same domain) hosted on a new sever. We implemented 301's for outdated domain names and urls. The content has been overhauled to be simpler and we are building this from ground up with SEO in mind.I have canonical tags, being mindful of follow and no follow, with out trying to page sculpt) and ensuring the urls are descriptive and free of auto generated cms trash.
To prepare for the launch, I captured all the analytics and adword campaigns before the switch. and began making lists of where we need to change the name around the web.
We were performing pretty well, on SERPS before hand and now we want to try to keep the momentum speeding up with a cleaner newer site. Does anyone have any more suggestions on what more I should be doing to start off on the right foot.

Kickass content that is aligned with the new mission and that is highly linkable.

What shall I call my site?
With all the google changes and social media focus on seo, I am in a bit of a dilemma and any opinions welcome. My husband has a very small horseback riding company based in a tiny mountain town of Costa Rica and I cannot decide whether to call it by the company name or by a more generic name that is likely to be picked up by the search engines ( I do believe the importance of domain name is less than it used to be in terms of search with all the new google changes). The two names are www.horsetrekmonteverde.com (bear in mind that his customers come from the States and horse trekking is not commonly used) and www.horseridingcostarica.com One mentions Costa Rica, the other not as you can see. Also not many people have beard about Monteverde. However I am trying to do some strong branding! What would you do?

How does nudity on a site affect search results?
One of my clients sells lingerie and with it being lingerie there are a fair few photos of bottoms and some exposed breasts. Gosh. Anyway I know how this affects Adwords campaigns - Google classifies the site as 'adult' and your ads don't show anywhere. I also know how it affects image searches. However how does it affect text seaches?? Are rankings demoted because of nudity? I've worked with a clothing site with some nudity on it before and this didn't affect it, but would love to hear from anyone with specific experience of thisThanks

What's an example of an SEO firm's site that lists their SEO packages excellently
Hello, I'd like to make a packages page on the site I'm still building bobweikelseo.com What's an example of a firm or SEO that lists their packages in a way that is appealing, useful, and all around excellent? I'm thinking of having a first package for analysis at $440, a second package for analysis and on-site SEO for $880, and a third package for analysis, on-site SEO, and link building for $2000-$4000/month depending on how fast they want the link building to go. Looking for some input on how to create a packages page, if my prices are appropriate (I want to be affordable), and an example of a website that does an excellent job at presenting their packages.

Good time to start a niche site?
I am wondering, with all the recent changes in the algorithm, is this a good time to start a niche site? I know this can be fairly subjective, depending on the niche. But, anyone think this is a good opportunity?

Subdomains seen as one site
Earlier this month Google announced that sub-domains are now
Industry News | | AlanMosley
be treated as one site. At first I thought this was good news as I like to use
sub-domains for separation of categories and the like. But what about links
from one sub-domain to the other, they uised to be external links now they are
internal links. If you don’t have many external links, I would say that the
cross sub-domain links would have been important, if you have a lot of external
links then the flow of link juice would be of more benefit. I think overall its
is a good thing. Does anyone have any opinions about this or know of any writings
on the subject since this announcement? http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/08/reorganizing-internal-vs-external.html0 -
How do you value a site that generates no income before it's sold?
Hi, I'm currently creating a number of sites which target the wedding market. Each site is localized and specific to a niche within the wedding market. The intention is to create the site, rank it in the top position of Google and then sell it to a local business within that niche and area. The problem that i am having is that I don't know how to place a value on each site. I have factors taken from Google (using Market Samurai) so I know the broad and phrase match traffic details as well as the Google PPC average prices. My initial thought was to use the Google PPC price and multiply that by the number of organic visitors the site would receive if it was ranked #1 on Google. I appreciate that the PPC figures may be higher than what an advertiser would actually pay per click so I conservatively halved the Google PPC figure given in Market Samurai. Is this a good way of valuing the site or do I need to look at the value per customer to the business that I am trying to sell the site to and work from a conversion factor based on the number of visitors that the site would receive. If the site received 500 visitors per month and 5% of those became customers multiplied by the average profit per customer - that would give a monthly value of the website. I am very unsure as to what the best approach is here and look forward to hearing any advice and ideas from fellow members. Thanks, Michael
