Missing tab in Competitor research Template
-
The template provided in https://moz.com/blog/competitor-analysis-for-seo is missing the 'Audit Data' Tab.
Can you please update it or share the Original Template
-
This Google Sheet is great but I am experiencing the same issue. This updated sheet now includes the Audit Data tab but when I fill in the Keywords on respective competitor tabs the Keyword Gap Analysis sheet shows some rows but definitely not all the data. I saw your response saying this is awesome", did you get it resolved? Would you please share the updated sheet? Thank you!

This is AWESOME Oliver, THANK YOU!!!

Hello thirdwavellc.
To make things easier, I've made a complete spreadsheet template that you can just update. It is a modified version of the one John Michael posted on in the MOZ Blog but this one has the "Audit Data" tag added it. I also had to make a change to the way the Keyword Gap Analysis tab was counting. All good now

Thanks Oliver for this. Unfortunately after adding the sheet, it still does not work for me. I even changed the name of the sheet to 'Audit Data'.
Also, the Keyword Gap Analysis sheet is not really working. I did not use SEMRush for my keywords as mentioned in the original article. I used Adwords and just pasted the Keywords and deleted all the other data. The populated data in the Keyword Gap Analysis looks weird, most likely not correct.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Regards

I've had the same issue and was able to fix things by creating a new tab (sheet) in the Competitor Analysis Template. It works for me now, and I haven't seen any issues. Here is a link to an AUDIT DATA sheet I create that you can insert into your current Competitor Analysis template. Let me know if you have any issues. Good luck!

How to set up a competitor URL with a language slug for a campaign
Hello, I am trying to set up a competitor with language slug for my (subfolder) website with a language slug. Let's say my website is something like: websiteholding.com/de/website
Competitive Research | | Siir
My competitor is: competitor.com/de When I go to Campaign Settings > Comptetitor Sites > type in competitor.com/de > Hit Save Competitor > Then it shows the saved competitor without the language slug as competitor.com I am not sure if this is a correct method of tracking since for my DE website I would like to track the DE page of the competitor, not their global page. Please correct me if I am wrong and help me out on possible solutions? I am quite new to SEO & Moz , so any help on the topic would be appreciated.0 -
Competitor Ranks Top Keywords Without Backlinks
One of my competitors is ranking very well for many different competitive keywords (1k+ searches per month). I'm trying to figure out how in the world he is ranking so well. I've signed up for MozPro and looked at his back-links. He has 1 branded site-wide back-link from a decent blog. He also has 1 contextual back-link from a decent blog. Other than these 2 back-links, the rest are garbage links unlikely to even count for anything (he has maybe 12 of these low quality back-links). My website on the other hand has more than 15 back-links from different (high quality) websites and does not rank anywhere near this competitor. This leads me to believe that either MozPro back-link reporting is inadequate or there is foul-play on the part of my competitor. As far as on-page SEO is considered, his website is far inferior. Therefore, I highly doubt this would play a role. What are some reasonable approaches I can take to better understand the cause of this discrepancy. Clearly the back-link reporting has not revealed any answers.

Competitors ranking in top three with worse SEO
Ok I am at a loss. Our client is trying to rank for keywords like "dental assistant programs utah", but they are still on the bottom of page 1/top of page 2. The guys in the top 3 have terrible SEO. No links, newer domains, etc. I looked into it extensively and learned about the "honeymoon period" people talk about but we are long past that. I've looked through webmaster tools to see if there are any issues, and I can't find a thing. Anyone have an idea of what we could be doing wrong that is making us be put down so far on the page? Before I got here the SEO guys were doing older tactics which I think was starting to hurt them with penguin and what not so I tried my best to delete the crap content and clean everything up on the website. thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it.

What's the best SEO way to benefit from your competitor's shutting down?
Hi ! Our main competitor is shutting down (website will be offline) at the end of the month and we are negotiating with them to buy their domain name: the idea would be to take advantage of their good rankings in the SERPs to redirect traffic to our pages (we're planning to crawl their site or get their sitemap and redirect th category / product pages to ours). The question is: for how long this strategy will be useful: days / weeks / months? (= for how long their pages will continue to appear in the SERPs from the day we enable the 301 redirections to our site?) Thanks in advance for your help! And if you have better suggestions, we're up to hear them of course.. 😉 Cheers

How to top competitor's article
Hello, For bobweikel.com I'm going to work on getting some natural backlinks by making a better article than http://www.medicinenet.com/weight_loss/article.htm even though they're 30 times more of an authority than me. If you think this is a good idea, how do you recommend I top this thing? I'm just brainstorming

Lins Missing in OpenSiteExplorer
Hi There, I have just signed to SEOMoZ to try to uncover what some of the competition are doing links wise. I have noticed that there are so many missing in my report that are definitely live and working. I have read that in some cases it takes a while but i have also read on the forum that opensiteexplorer will only find up to 25% of all links. This is the same with my competitors links then. So i can only find a 1/4 of what's in place? Is this the case or am i missing something? Many Thanks

What's the best way to discover my business and search competitors?
I am trying to figure out who the real competitors are for the domain that I have been recently handed. Other than the client's references, which I don't think are the real competition (they are his benchmarks), how do I go about discovering the true competition? What the simplest, most effective way to go about discovering my business and search competitors? Given that this is a web portal, aren't both of the latter the same?
