Universal Google analytics e-commerce tracking code?

Hi Mozzers,
I have never setup a universal google analytics e-commerce tracking code before and my concern is what exactly do I need to add on the cart thank you page?
Can someone send me a sample of code I need to be adding? What kind of customization does it require?

Hi Taysir,
No they won't need their own thank you page. Usually a shop will have their own thank you page for all products. I don't have any experience running this through Tag Manager but usually how it would work that you have an array of data on the products that you sold and that you loop through it.
As all of this usually runs from the back-end of a shop it's something you should talk about with your developer on how they can do this the best way possible.

Thanks for your response! The one part I am confused about is that it seems that each product will need their own thank you page with the product specifics on the tracking code. Is that correct?
If this the way to implement it, how do you manage to create multiple tracking codes for multiple products? Tag manager would probably be recommended, right?
Finally if someone purchases multiple products we would need to have multiple additem' within the code? How do you possibly figure out all the scenarios for different items to add when the e commerce carries 100s of products?

I hope you don't use that for tracking e-commerce as it doesn't contain the e-commerce tracking To enable e-commerce tracking you need a couple of JS functions. All the documentation you'll need around this topic can be found here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/ecommerce
ga('require', 'ecommerce'); is the first to load the GA E-commerce Library.
ga('ecommerce:addTransaction', {

});This part is where you fill in all the details of the transaction, so it's a summary. In the next step you'll add all the needed data for the items within the transaction.

Are you using an particular flavor of shopping cart or a custom e-commerce solution? You might want to try searching for plugins/extensions that can do this for you. Google Tag Manager is another way to do this.

Thanks for providing the doc but I have read them and still finding it confusing. I'd like to get a sample of the tracking code and what to customize within the code. Your google search is focused on classic GA and not universal GA.

Hi there, We recently changed our domain from .COM to .NET so that all our subdomains from external pages matched. Right now in Google Console we have our new .NET website being tracked, but in GA we are still tracking .COM. It is also causing issues with MOZ crawling our site because of the .COM/.NET discrepancy. My question is what is the best way to change our Google Analytics from .COM to .NET without losing historical data and what considerations do we need to change before implementing this? Our team was concerned that just downloading the old data would be too vast and it we wouldn't be able to continue manipulating it dynamically in GA. Thanks!!

Google Analytics direct traffic dropped by 50% after switching to https
Hi, everyone, have a little dilemma and was hoping to get some advice here. I recently installed a new SSL (3 months ago) to force our URL to start with https://. The site was earlier accessible through https:// and http:// prefix however now I have made it so that all urls are redirected to the correct https:// version. The problem is that direct traffic has dropped by more than 50% after implementing these changes and I can for the life of me figure out why. Why would the direct traffic drop all of sudden after making these changes? I am starting to suspect that the earlier data was inflated and that Google analytics was counting users coming from a http:// version of the URL to a https:// version of the URL was counted as direct traffic. Could that be it? Any other possible causes? Would really appreciate any guidance on this problem. Thanks

How to set goal in Google Analytics that required specific page
So our company has new page that has just implemented (let say "page x" --> not a landing page) and we want to see how many visitors that through "page x " convert into the goal (let say "page y"). If I just make the goal destination like "/page y" the goal number that appear is ALL the visitors who reach "page y" (through or not through "page x"), so how I set the goal setting to only show the visitors who reach "page y" through "page x" ? Thank you

Set Up of Goal Tracking with Google Analytics-$750 a Fair Price????
Greetings Moz Community! My firm operates commercial real estate website that contains 3-4 forms. Each form represents a goals. Google Analytics has been set up for years, but it does not track these form completions/goals properly. My SEO firm has offered to configure Goals on Google Analytics for $750. Is this a fair price? If the set up takes one hour, I am really over paying. But if this is a complex project that may take 7-9 hours the pricing seems OK. Also, the SEO firm will require an additional $750 in the future to set up event tracking. Is this excessive? I might add that my developer will need to add code to my web site. My SEO company has proven reliable and accurate. I can go to sleep at night knowing they are doing a good job. Where as my Argentinian developers really try their best, but perhaps because of the language barrier, they can make mistakes from time to time. I am willing to pay a premium to ensure that the job is done correctly domestically, however I don't appreciate over paying. Is the $750 payment for setting up Google Analytics reasonable assuming the job is done well??? Thanks,

Google analytics Goals and Funnels??
Hey - how's things? I've got 2 goals setup, each of which use the same thank you page but with different required funnels. The results have been identical for the last few weeks - which tells me I've got something wrong!! The first goal has a contact form on every page in the /products/ directory set up like this:

Google Analytics underreporting
I have a site selling items, I use paypal buttons and get a report using ipn back from paypal telling me when I have sold a item. I also have a Google analytics event setup on the button, and one on the confirmation page.

For example in the last few days I have sold over 10 items from the website, but have only 2 events from the button and none from the confirmation page. The confirmation page depends on the user getting redirected back from PayPal so I can see that being upper reported, but there is no way you can buy without clicking the button.
I have the chrome addon from google to debug your analytics code and it fires every time.
The figures seem to report only about 20% of events over a long period of time. If it was not working at all, I could assume I have not set things up correctly but this is not the case, I get a regular flow of events but at about 205 of sales.
I am very disappointed with GA, seems a waste of time. anyone else had the same expirence?0 -
Strange increase in Direct traffic in Google analytics
For past 2 weeks, several of our sites have strange increase in direct traffic in Google Analytics. we also have another tracking code, and in this account we don't have any big changes, so this is very strange what is happening. We didn't changed any codes, and none of the changes were done to application. Any ideas why this is happening? z7ME9.jpg
