Can you manage multiple department store hours showing up in a GMB knowledge card?
-
Recently one our clients noticed that their GMB knowledge card is showing multiple opening hour sets for different departments.
Is there anyway to directly influence these results? We know schematic markup helps but are there any other options to manage these different department hours?
Thanks

Hi BigChad2,
Thanks for your reply. Just to be sure I'm understanding, you are positive that no GMB listings exist (either claimed or not) for departments B & C? If positive, do you know where the hours are coming from? Have you been able to trace them to the website or elsewhere?

Hey Miriam
Thanks for your response. This is for a big brand financial client. So to answer your question Department A has it's own GMB listing, but the knowledge card is showing hours for Department B/C although we are doing nothing in GMB to manage those department hours. Google is subjectively displaying those hours.
The question is, can we do anything to control what Google is showing in the knowledge card (besides using schema)?

Hi BigChad2,
Hours of operation typically come from your GMB dashboard (though Google could potentially pull them from elsewhere). Are you saying that Department A of your business has its own GMB listing, but is showing the hours for Departments B and C, which also have their own listings, or is it a branded search for the whole business that is bringing up a single card with multiple hours on it and only the brand has a GMB listings (i.e. GMB listings don't exist separately for the different departments). And, are the hours correct? Incorrect? Is there any way you can provide a real-world example? If not, it's okay, but a few more details could help.

I am having an issue with multiple Google local listings.
We assigned separate numbers for each local listing (using Call Tracking Metrics). However, recently our listings were suspended and when I read through terms of service it says the number has to match on the location page. We use dynamic numbers - so of course that number doesn't show up. Would it work to also add the local number to the page in addition to the dynamic number? Or has anyone figured out a work around?

How can we better control GMB photos on Google SERPs?
Has anyone had luck choosing photos to display on SERPs for their Google My Business profile pages? Recently, Google has been overriding our photo choices and they've picked some terrible, user-submitted photos to show on SERPs. Our clients are understandably upset about this and we've tried flagging photos which works only a small % of the time. When we call Google they say they can luckily remove individual photos, but this isn't too scalable across dozens of clients we work with. How can we have better control over the photos that show on GMB listings? Any suggestions or best practices would be appreciated! Attached is an example of one we have showing on SERPs for a dealer. Multiple Local Domains and Location Pages Question
Hello Everyone, So we have a priority site (domain.com) but also a geo-specific site for another location we have (domainNYC.com). Assuming both have completely unique content, different contact information and it’s justifiable to have a second domain (i.e. resources, brand/link equity…etc.) would it be recommend to also use the sub-folder approach on our primary (meaning domain.com/nyc)? And then potentially linking to domainNYC.com (just the once, not overdoing it)? Or just play it safe and keep them separate. Our concern is doing both sub-folder and separate domain might cannibalize on local searches resulting in us essentially competing with ourselves for those terms. The benefit would be leveraging the priority domain and driving visitors there. We could always ‘noindex, follow' the sub-folder page so users have access to the address on the primary domain too but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions as well as how it could pertain to linking (scarcely). We have found a lot of information on choosing one over the other but not as much for whether both is recommended so any extra insight would be very appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thank you in advance for the help! Best,

How to rank for local keywords (cities) when you don't have brick and mortar stores
Hi folks, We have developed a site that connect local consumers with local businesses (brick and mortar). The keywords that consumers search for are e.g. "plumber san diego" or "hairdresser" + "local area" and so on...good old fashioned local searches. Sometimes even without the location added in the search. But how do we BEST optimize our site to get the most organic traffic from these local searches? We don't have brick and mortar stores or offices but our service is of high value and will save consumers lots of money and even help the local businesses when in need of extra customers. Thanks in advance for all your input. Have a nice day. Chris

Rich card formatting for events
Hi all, I'm having trouble with getting Rich Cards to show for my site and am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. Here’s an example for Louis CK. His bio is pulled from Wikipedia, but the tour dates are drawn from elsewhere. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=louis+ck I coded in a basic card for one of our events and nothing showed up (several weeks ago at this point so not just a crawl issue), and never registered with Google Webmaster. Honestly, I haven’t seen an example of an endurance event using a card. Sports-wise I’ve only seen them for major sports teams, but I’m hoping we can take advantage of it somehow. When submitting a search query on Google, once you add any event name beside Vermont, our business card doesn’t display (we’re based in Vermont), so it would be great to have something that can show up for each event. We also can’t get our social profiles to show up in our business card, after adding the code for Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus. I’m wondering if that’s partially because our social accounts are named Wrenegade Sports when everything else is Farm to Fork Fondo. (Not personally a proponent of that name difference and I suspect it hurts us). https://www.google.com/search?q=farm+to+fork+fondo&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS694US694&oq=farm+to+fork&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i60j69i57j69i60l2j0.1124j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Thanks!

Multiple Location TROUBLE!
Hello Moz World, I have a client that has three brick and mortar locations. After placing all three locations into Google Places, I discovered that 2 of his 3 locations are not brick and mortar stores. They are actually his house, and his Mother's house. He is a plumber, and services most of the state. My question is, as a professional SEO consultant who wants to do the right thing, what should I recommend he do? How long before Google catches him, and what will actually happen? Should I advise him to play the system till he gets caught? And Lastly, does anyone have any recommendations on how to rank a single website for multiple cities within the state? Loaded Questions, Thanks ahead of time for all of the responses! B/R Will H.

How Far is Too Far to Show Up in Local Results
Hi everyone, I have one client that is located about 45 minutes (25 miles) outside of a large city and I can't seem to help them rank within that large city. They're a relatively new business in the service industry (meaning they'll travel to an individual's residence) and in the surrounding cities closer to their physical location, they rank extremely well. In this large city, they have 3 keywords in the top 10, 2 snack pack rankings and then everything else is below 51! I have a feeling that distance depends on many things, but I am wondering if anyone has ever figured out how far away is **too far **to be considered local by Google. My feeling is that sure it would be nice to rank locally for this large city as it would open them up to a really large customer pool, but that maybe 45 minutes away is just not local (I know I personally don't consider that "local"). Again, I understand that ranking locally depends on a really wide range of factors, but I'm considering only distance in this question. Thanks so much!
