Seo-friendly way to post blog content to homepage?
-
We have an e-commerce website.
We would like to feature content from our blog on the site's homepage (both on same domain).
The content we want to feature is latest posts titles (say 5) plus the few first lines from each post.
We want search engines to be able to read this content.
Is there a SEO friendly way to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we're using WordPress, but the e-commerce site runs on Netsuite so we can't use php on the homepage.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply, but we don't have access to the server, it's a Netsuite e-commerce site.

If you have a static html site you can write a Perl program to read your blog feed and rewrite it into a server-side include file. Then you can add that include to your homepage - or any other page on your site.
If you trigger that Perl program with a cron job on your server you can have your server-side include updated daily, monthly or hourly.
You can also have the Perl program make server-side includes by category and these can be added across your site on relevant pages.
One advantage of this is that when you publish a new blog post you can BAM... get hundreds of links into it within an hour of publication - or you can trigger the Perl program manually.

Assuming your using WordPress for your blog, you can get the latest posts with get_posts http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts
Either just displaying the_title or the_excerpt will be just fine for SEO

Product Descriptions (SEO)
Hello, I sell products relating to wood. Although the products vary, I like to give description of the wood type for the customers who might not be familiar with it. Will it hurt my rankings to give the same descriptions for the same wood type as long as the majority of the description is different? Here is an example of the layout: 1. Different description for different products 2. The same short description for the same wood types (seen throughout multiple pages) Hopefully my question makes sense.

Duplicate Content
Hello Moz Quick question. Can I copy and paste a paragraph of text (100 words) from my main category page into my products without hurting SEO of the category page? The content on my category page is so good I don't want to take chances as this is what I will be ranking for. Thanks

Should I spend time going back and optimizing old blog posts for SEO or just write new posts?
The site I manage (Boutique Estate Law Firm) has at least 350 old blog post archived that were not well optimized for SEO. Would it be valuable to go through and optimize those old posts or just write new optimized posts even though they are on the same subjects? My boss loves to churn out 300 word posts.

Some Content The Same
Hello. I am about to publish some landing pages that target different industries that we are trying to market to. X for Accountants
On-Page Optimization | | smithandco
X for Financial Advisors
X for Fitness Trainers
X for X While a good portion of the content is unique on each page "the benefits of using X for accountants" some of the content on the page is duplicate which explains more about how our software works (the features), this will be the same content on every page. Is this considered duplicate content? What should I be aware of in term of Google rankings and penalties? Thanks,

Paying someone for SEO help?
Moz has been very helpful but since my site was hit by Google Panda and I am getting very little organic traffic, I am thinking about having someone who really knows SEO take a look and give me some help. However, I have no idea how to find someone reputable. Any advice for hiring someone for SEO help (on a budget?)

Duplicate content in the title
Good morning, I am developing an application that searches offers in the press. The problem I have is the follow one:
On-Page Optimization | | ofuente
When I find an offer that I have already post, I cant use the same URL because it generates duplicate content , as the URL is generated from the title. If I find two offers in different stores (for example Thomson TV) I am studying two options. The first would be to add a number at the end of the URL
http://www.offertazo.com/televisor-thomson
http://www.offertazo.com/televisor-thomson1
http://www.offertazo.com/televisor-thomson2 Another option I propose would be to add semantic data to provide value (such as the date). For example:
http://www.offertazo.com/01-12-12/televisor-thomson I appreciate your help.0
