Are you an in-house SEO or an Agency/freelancer SEO ?
-
Really curios about the pie split on SEO MOZ community about this.
So, are you an In-house SEO or an Agency / Freelancer SEO ?
(personally as prediction I would say in-House SEOs are predominant here - just curios to see the ratio - although not sure how many SEO MOZ members are reviewing the Q and A area but again it will be nice to see the ratio of the in house vs agency that are spending time on Q and A's).
-
It looks like around 40% users here in SEOMOz are in fact agencies.. based on what Rand said in todays WBF: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/conducting-market-research-before-investing-in-tactical-execution-whiteboard-friday

Working for agency and in my free time - freelancer

Call me crazy, but I would rather keep all the profits for myself

Seo is a marathon, not a race. One client leads to others! Keep up the good work!

Agency..... In house is for those who can't handle the heat... Cesar

Seo Marketing Agency

in house but only had one paying client so far deciding whether to keep going in house or go with an agency time will tell!!
-
Freelancer. Some days I wish I was in an agency though. On the other hand, when the wind is behind you there is no better way to be! (IMHO of course).
-
I'm in-house, and SEO wasn't originally part of my job description.
Basically, anything online is now my domain. I'm sure I'm not the only one who prefers to control all aspects of online presence?
-
In-house
-
I am in-house
Level of happiness - 9.0 out of 10
Desire to experience the agency side of life: 7.0 out of 10
What would it take to get me to move from one to the other? - $30K above my current salary (which isn't really that high)
Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

The biggest revenu is coming from # 3?

@Catalyst Online: So you you've seen how green the grass is on both sides of the fence. So Is Cesar or Robert that's right ? (drama vs boring) :))
-
Agency,
In-house is so... boring
Back at ya Cesar

In House - Agencies are Drama

Agency SEO but have worn all hats.

Agency
-
@all: Are you happy with the position you currently have ? (in house, agency or working on your own projects).
Or are you stuck but you would like to move ? (from in house to agency, from agency to in house and so on )
Really curious about the level of "happiness" with current positions in the community - and again, it's mainly about the Q and A community as I've seen a lot of activity on the blog from people that are not present here..
-
-
I'm a freelancer to big agencies (30%)
-
I do consulting under my own brand (69.8%)
-
I work on my own sites (.2%)
Makes me look like I go by every SEO opportunities. Call me easy, but call me maybe...
-
-
In-house for my own sites and freelance for local firms.
-
I've got all boxed ticked - I'm inhouse a couple of days a week, I occasionally freelance and I've also started on my first serious niche site effort to learn faster and make an extra buck. Wonder how many more multi-role people are here?
-
In-house and freelance in spare time
-
In-house. I think a nice follow-up question for agencies/freelancers would be how they work with clients marketing-/technical teams to improve SEO (and how do you overcome organisation barriers in this case).
I always found that SEO agencies (at least in South Africa) work too removed from clients and rather focus on link-building without any measurable metrics.

haha, with your quality standard, calling it both agency & in-house is probably something the community would let slide

Agency.
-
While the SEOmoz industry survey states that the majority of us are in-house, it seems that the individuals who work for agencies and the entrepreneurs are the most active in this community, especially as far as blog posts go. I was shocked to learn the real ratio.
I'm in-house, by the way.

How much to charge for my E-commerce SEO services and web design
Hello, I'm starting a web design company doing standard web design, E-commerce web design, and E-commerce SEO. I've been doing the nuts and bolts of an E-commerce business with four online stores, one very successful, for nine years. Since that's my main experience, I'm sticking with helping others with the nuts and bolts of their E-commmerce SEO. I also do the web design, which I've been doing since 2001. What should I charge per hour for my web design and E-commerce SEO services? I live in Boise, Idaho. I'm thinking $100 an hour for everything, is that too much for web design or too little for SEO? The SEO would be billed exact but my web design estimates are more generous. Looking for honest opinions. I don't want to over or under charge. Thanks Bob

What Do You Wish Your CMS Could Do (SEO Wise)?
What do you wish your CMS could do SEO-wise. Even if it can be done with a plugin etc, what could be done better? What CMS are you referring to/using? Very curious as to where folks run into SEO issues with a particular CMS.

Travelling & SEO?
Hi Everybody, I had no idea where to post this online and i thought SEOmoz was an awesome place to start! 🙂 I own a small digital marketing agency in the UK, i started it when i was 17 and i have won a number of awards from young entrepreneur of the year and i have worked with some large organisations. At the moment i am currently 21 and i have always wanted to go travelling and see the world. I have told my clients that i am going travelling and some are staying with me and some are leaving due to them liking that human contact / meet ups. what is totally fine. In October i am travelling around Australia and i was wondering if anybody has done anything like this before? I have always wanted to do it and keep coming up with excuses why i can't do it, but im just going to go for it!!!! I was thinking that i could travel from city to city working for different SEO agencies, i mainly work as a consultant because i find it extremely easy to start talking to people and generate leads. Do you think it would be better to work for somebody or pitch that im on my own travelling and can do it remotely. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to a agency to take somebody one as "part-time" and for somebody who could "steal" their business, im guessing i could get a contract together explaining that i will not work with any leads generated for their business? How would you go about getting work / getting paid? I have some websites what make income from absence but nothing life changing... just a few ££ per month. Any advice from anybody who has been travelling / done something like before would be extremely loved by me! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!!!! 🙂

How to Educate my Company About SEO
Hey Mozzers, I'm currently faced with a situation that I believe is probably quite common in the SEO industry. I'd like to get the input of the SEOMoz community to see how others have handled this situation and how I can use that to help my company and of course myself in this process 🙂 Here's the dealio. I recently obtained a position at a fairly large company ($500 million annually) with the task of being our Lead SEO, which I am loving, but am finding one thing to be a big hurdle to our success. Essentially no one here has any pre-existing knowledge about what SEO and inbound marketing are. There are a few younger folks who understand some of it, and a few of those who I work with on a daily basis are starting to get it, but I fear that many of the folks on our webteam and even higher up do not understand the value of SEO, the implications of certain things the webteam does to our website, and moreso the value of me being here as the sole SEO expert. I'm wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar situation and how I might be able to effectively instill a culture of SEO within my company to get people to think about SEO before they do things. My first goal is to ensure people think about SEO before making changes to our site. My second goal is for them to see the power of proper SEO, thus proving how valuable I am to the company. Thoughts anyone?

Which pieces of content in the online marketing/social media space were the very best of the best in the past 12 months?
As you may be aware - SEOmoz are hiring for a marketing oracle (one of 8 jobs going at the moment: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/8-open-positions-at-seomoz). Their key responsibility will be to produce world class content about online marketing, seo and social media. So, let ask you - what are the best examples of content in this space from the past 12 months? The very best of the best. Don't just think SEO, but any kind of online marketing content. Whether it's editorial, infographic, research etc etc.
