Best way to set up a support site - sub domain, separate site or com/support?
-
My company is setting up our support site. It has been suggested that we set it up as a separate domain - www.company-support.com, rather than setting it up as a sub-domain (www.support.company.com) or the usual www.company.com/support. The person who proposed this believes it wlll create link juice, but i wonder if splitting the traffic will create more harm than good? Opinions please!

Hi googilvie
you sound sceptical about this persons' suggestion, and I would be too.
What is the purpose of the support site? That's perhaps a daft question but presumably it's primarily to support customers with the effects of lowering support costs, increasing renewals or repeat sales or whatever? Or is it to add content for SEO purposes.
Either way I wouldn't use a new domain.
For usability I would put the support section on the same domain (in a folder) or a sub-domain
For SEO I would put it on the same domain, both to earn any incoming links for your primary sales domain, and also to avoid a discrete 'support site' outranking the main one on any brand or product name searches.
I can't think of a single brand or company that uses a separate domain for support, which is often a good indicator of whether something is a good idea

Moving blogs to different domain
Hey guys, We currently have some blogs on one of our pages (fraserisland.com.au) and we are launching a complete rebranding of our sites. We want to move the blogs from fraserisland.com.au to the new parent page of travelfreedom.com.au (but still link it to fraserisland.com.au), however I don't know what affect this will have on the ranking of the blogs. The biggest thing I'm worried about is that the domain will be completely different, and not a sub domain, but I'm not sure what impact this will have on the effectiveness of SEO on the blog. Thanks guys

Free PR Sites
Is it advantagous to post to PR sites such as this one: http://www.i-newswire.com/fitness-professional-online-launches/218349 I've seen posts like these on several sites - same post on multiple sites. I'm wondering if it's even worth having them on one, or multiple. Thoughts?

Open Site Explorer
Typically when using Open Site Explorer to analyze links, how long does it take for them to show up? I have some links that are on high page ranking sites, yet they still do not show up with the Open Site Explorer. Thank you

Multiple blogs for one site
Hello, one of my competitors built all these blogs and pointed them to their main site.. Is this white hat? http://steelbuildingsblog.org/ PR3 http://metal-church-buildings.net/ PR2 http://commercial-metal-buildings.org/ PR2 http://metalandsteelbuildings.net/ PR1 http://steel-storage-buildings.org/ PR2 http://texas-steel-buildings.net/ PR2 http://steel-metal-buildings.org/ PR3 http://metal-buildingstore.com/ PR2 http://metalagriculturalbuildings.net/ PR3 Also I am looking at my links vs. theirs and they have a much higher point score for links... But the company I am doing SEO for has most of same quality links. Can this be the reason they have an edge?

Linking to root domain or specific sub-site
Hello, When optimizing for multiple keywords, should I try to get links back to the root domain of the company I work with, or would it be better to link back to sub-sites specific to the keyword I am optimizing for? Does 'getting the root up' help all keywords I work with? Cheers, Mike
