I'm building backlinks to a certain page on my website, optimizing for 2 keywords. Since I'm spending a lot of time building backlinks to this page should I also do heavy internal linking with the keywords that point to this certain page as well?

Internal linking to match off page keyword optimization.

Thanks for the input. For the company I'm working for we're doing a new blog and I plan on linking back to certain pages of the main site that are relevant to the blogpost.

Your internal linking strategy should be to help identify important pages. Assuming that they are important pages (since you're building links to them) then yes, you should link where relevent from other pages.
The links should be naturally editorial in nature and remember that only the first link counts - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/results-of-google-experimentation-only-the-first-anchor-text-counts - so no need to put links to the same page over and over within the content.
I generally put up to 3 links (sometimes one, sometimes none!) in a single page of content and even if my navigation already links to the page I'll still put it in (as a caveat to the first link only rule).
Some things to think about when linking though.
-
If a user clicks this link now am I more or less likely to convert them? (whatever your conversion metric may be)
-
Is a link here useful to a reader or am I simply putting it in because the keyword matches?
-
Am I linking the most important pages through this content? If there are 10 keywords you could link to other pages from this content, which would be the best 3 to link to. (3 links isn't a hard rule, but less is more in this case)
-
Can I use a different variant of achor text on this page? For less important (linking from) pages, the link itself helps bots and users through the site. Using the same anchor text exclusively to link to pages on your site, while not a problem, isn't maximising your internal link potential. Variations of keywords internally can be good.
I'll leave you with something I noticed yesterday to do with internal linking.
On one of my sites I started a blog back in October. I linked to the blog from the main navigation, but from within the posts I started linking to a specific page about once or twice a week (3 pieces of content a week on average). Without any other influences (that I can think of) it has steadily increased from ranked 70th to 16th now (the page has been live for about 3 years, though hadn't moved much apart from the last 6 months).
The domain hasn't picked up much extra authority (though I appreciate the page is probably relying on DA) so, as far as I can tell, internal linking to show that this page is important has pushed it up the rankings.
To get into the top 3 I'll need to start building links to it specifically, but with a good domain, correct internal linking definitely works.

Internal linking is always a preferred step in link building but doing anything heavily do more harm. Make sure to get internal backlinks from meaningful pages. Unnecessarily doing it just for the sake of doing is will do no good.

Should I focus on building links to my homepage, or internal pages?
I'm hiring several PA's to contact site's linking to my competition. Should we try to get links to content pages (blog post, article, etc) or build links directly to my homepage? More info: My site is a web application, so most links will naturally fall on the homepage. If links to content are more important we'll need to change our strategy. We are pitching the free version of the application to universities and schools as a resource for their students.

'Too many links' on our pages.
This figure includes links that sit within our navigational menus. Is there a way to block this somehow so that Google and Moz do not read them as 'internal links'? Thanks in advance.

Effectiveness of Forum Backlinks: specifically Paul's Backlinks
I know the general consensus is that these kinds of backlinks are of low value, however I'm curious as to anyones present day experience with them and if they are providing any value. More specifically, I am curious if they can do harm. I don't see how they could, as it would be a very easy tactic for an unscrupulous competitor to sabotage another by implementing them for their competitors. I can see possibly losing rank if they were discounted, however if this is the case, then it would only be rank that would not have been gained in the first place, minus those kinds of links. I ask because I have competing websites who have started to outrank me (they have been climbing and improving through each Google algorithm change in the past year), despite the fact that my mosrank and authority are better than every single one of them. But they have a sheer growing volume of backlinks that I can't match (seemingly low value when I look at their link profiles). Plus my domain is older (9 years as opposed to 3-4 years), and my site is clearly better (in terms of aesthetics, usability, content, etc), as well as my link profile being selectively cultivated from truly relevant sites. None the less, they are starting to kill me at this point -and I don't have the luxury of time. So....I was wondering about the wisdom of upping my volume of forum type links, as this is the only area of measurement where I can see my competitors are beating me. I am a believer in true, difficult, quality inbound marketing - however it is not getting the job done. Any thoughts on this?

Using an SEO Agency to build one-way links for you via link exchange
There are a number of SEO agencies which offer link building as part of their SEO offerings. I believe they build one-way links to the client site, by offering another link in exchange to the liking site. So, if the client site is "C", and link is being requested from site "A", the site "A" owner is offered a link from site "B" in return. Is this a good and/or recommended practice?

Link building
I have two separate websites on different servers and was wondering that since reciprocal links effectively eliminate each other, I'm curious if this link strategy will keep the links counting. Here's the strategy: I will have someone link to my site A and if i link to their site from my site B in a three way link strategy, will the links count even though both my site A and B have me listed as the Whois so Google knows that both sites are owned by me? Or will the links be discounted as reciprocal? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Take care, Ron

Links on the same keyword
When is linking from one particular keyword to much. At what point could link building from one keyword be considered spam and potentially delist a site ? Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ? Heard linking from the website name is more important following recent changes. I try and link from a selection of 3 to 4 keywords. Thanks for your help

Different Link Titles Linking to the same page
So I'm doing a lot of link building but my question is how do search engines treat different link titles to the same page. For example, my main page is www.musillawfirm.com If I have 20 links from 20 sites linking to it as Melbourne FL DUI Lawyer and 20 more linking as Melbourne FL immigration Lawyer and More linking as Cocoa FL DUI lawyer etc... what happens? Do the search engines just rank me higher for all the terms or would it be better to always just link to separate landing pages? Thanks in advance
