Dumb International SEO question?
-
Buongiorno from 18 degrees C Wetherby UK...
Client asks - "My swedish site is http://www2.kingspanpanels.se/ how important is having the swedish suffix in the url with regards to rankings in Sweden?"
I find these questions really challenging, its like the Hey if i change this url my SEO problems will be fixed, as if its that easy.
So my question is - "How weighted is the url suffix / ccTLD in terms of SEO success for a territory / country" Put another way "If the swedish suffix .se was removed would it impact rankings in any way in Sweden?"
Grazie tanto,
David -
Thanks Mark I'll have a look at the article.
Best regards
David

Hi David,
All your questions are basically answered in this article http://searchengineland.com/11-considerations-for-international-seo-117798
For starting it's a plus to have the .se domain. However it takes more time to build up a nice link profile for a single domain in contrast to a TLD with subfolders. There you have s stronger domain authority. It's a matter of budget here. I'm sure the article will deliver the rest. Hope this helps

Hi David,
I think it is pretty important where you can employ the ccTLD of the target country. I have Swedish clients and I do want to reach out and target our potential clients in this country. However I don't have a Swedish domain.
This page which is in Swedish does rank in Sweden http://www.instantatlas.com/Helse_Nord_Story-swe.xhtml
I have adopted schema for it and as well as obviously having the page in Swedish I did add the following:
So as much as possible if I don't have the ccTLD I at least try to cover all the other potential options such as title, description.
I suppose as well could change the URL to something more Swedish.Hope that helps a little.

From my limited experience in my opinion i find it a strong factor, we have a couple of websites in different countries that seem to rank particularly well with the correct country code,
But i remembered this Matt Cutts video which should give you a better idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJqZIH_0Ars
Hope this helps

How important are author bios to SEO?
I'm trying to understand the importance of author bios to Google and its latest algorithms. Some say author bios affect rankings, but others say that has not been specifically stated by Google — but it does affect the user experience. Anyone have input on this? Thanks!

What is the impact of HTTP/2 on SEO ?
I think it's good for the user experience and speeds up websites, especially if your site has a lot of requests. But i'm not sure if there are other side effects, and if there's an impact on SEO or technical configuration. Most of my websites are built with Wordpress, some with Joomla.

Sitemap Question
Hello, I have a website and my sitemap (generated by the Yoast plugin) is set up into three different sections. One thing I noticed was that my homepage isn't in my sitemap. Is this an issue? The homepage is indexed, but does it need to be added to the sitemap in order for it to be crawled? How would I go about adding the homepage to the sitemap?

Google "In-Depth Article" Question
Google started featuring "In-Depth Articles" a few days ago. You can read about them here and here. I have two questions about them... If you already hold a great position in the SERPs. Let's say your existing article ranks at #2 or #3. If that article becomes one of the "In-Depth Articles", will it disappear from the #2 or #3 position? I have lots of content that I could mark as an In-Depth Article, but I don't want to do that if it will pull me out of a hard-earned SERP position. Has anyone seen "In-Depth Articles" that do not have the Schema markup? Thanks!

What was the biggest challenge you faced as an SEO in 2012?
As an SEO (in-house, freelance, consultant, agency, entrepreneur) what was the biggest challenge you faced in 2012? Please be as specific as you can, and let us all know what you are doing to overcome this challenge in 2013. For me personally I would have to say the biggest challenge I had to deal with was Google+ Local. Obviously Google is putting a lot into G+L, but it has been so messy and at times I have just thrown my arms up in the air. Especially when it comes to multi-state locations and losing reviews.

SEO for a starter
Hi I operate in a rather competitive market (IT and project management related training), and my focus is the UK market. I've recently started focussing on SEO. I have been creating content, albeit slowly. I have completed writing a book on my target subject, which is due to go out in a couple of weeks (I've received very positive feedback so far). And I have a decent PPC campaign. To get to decent ranking on Google etc., my plan is 1. Focussing on quality content and publishing on my site (I have about 15-20 articles in the pipeline). Reaching out for guess posts is next, but creating this much content is hard. 2. Get external SEO help for link building and off-page SEO. This is somewhat confusing for me, as I've got offers ranging from blog posts, BMR etc. I have some budget for this, but don't exactly know what to target. 3. Gradual focus on on-page optimisation. I haven't done anything on social front, on FB, Twritter. I do have a solid LinkedIn profile (personal). I have one full time resource available to help me out. What should I focus on? What am I missing? Cheers.

SEO Link building / Article Distributation
Quick question in regards to link building and OFF PAGE SEO... Why isn't Articles distributation via wire services considered a "Duplicate Content" issue by Google? i.e. If take the one article and post it accross 50 (do follow) websites, Press release sites, and blogs. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this. Regard, Sammy
