Rankings and keywords
-
I have a site www.firewall-cs.com that I have been working on for 4 months. The first 2 months the keywords were going up and then...dropped like a rock! We didn't build the website, but it is a Wordpress site so I can make some changes.
For the keywords that have "IT" in them, we haven't been able to recover. It's like Google isn't even reading the home page. The home page slider has the H1 in it and has 3. I have told this to the client. Plus there isn't a lot of content on the page. Is the H1 issue enough for the word "IT Support Orlando" to not rank?
Any suggestions would help!
Thank you.

Hi There
This can be common with new sites. Google will test out it's rankings in the beginning to see how users respond etc - and then it may "settle" to a more normal ranking.
These small adjustments to on-page things like H1s (which is not a strong signal) etc are probably going to make very small differences. I would recommend looking at other factors such as back links, domain authority, local citations etc.
You can use the Moz Keyword Difficulty tool to gather lots of metrics around why certain sites rank where they do, and where you stand compared to those that are ranking.
Take a look though these link building strategies as well as GetListed for some help on the links and citations.
Hope that helps!

I just looked and I don't see it used that often, what tool are you using?
-
IT has been used 23 times on the home page. You can try reducing the usage and see if that makes a difference.
-
Do you see over optimization or are you just saying that as a general rule?
-
Hi Kollin,
Watch out for overoptimization of keyphrases on the site.Use the on page grader tool by Moz to see how you can improve the keyword strength on the site. Analyze the top 10 competitiors using on page grader and OSE to see what is making them rank at the top.
Cheers,

It's probably the same issue everyone is experiencing - check out the MozCast for 8/20. It went up to 103 degrees suggesting a major shift with Google, though Google has not confirmed.

Google Rankings Are Dancing What To Do?
I was been ranking on page no.3 for many of my keywords. Suddenly they all dropped to Page No.9& Page no.10. Now 10 days back one of my keyword got back to page no.4 & now suddenly today it went back to page no.9 again. I haven't done any changes to the site. My page speed is less than 4secs. Checked everything & all seems fine. No errors or manual actions notification in Webmaster too. Should i wait for the rankings dance to get over or should i start doing something. Currently i am planning to get fresh pages with good content added to the website for the whole month of July. Suggest me what to do?

Is it normal to initially rank low in the SERPs, then over time gain rank?
We just released a very targeted page for a specific item about 18 hours ago. For the main keyword as well as multiple variations, we currently are ranking around # 40 to # 50 depending on what the exact query is. Is it normal to initially rank lower in the SERPs and then as the page ages, gain? Thank you for your insights!

What are your best moves if you want to get your traffic and rankings back for a specific keyword?
Hi all We are server and website monitoring company for over 13 years and I dare to say our product evolved and mastered over the years. Our marketing not so much. Most of our most convertible traffic came from the keyword "ping test" with our ping test tool page, and for the first 10 years we have been positioned 1-3 in Google.com so it was all good. The last two years we have been steady on positioned 8-9, and since 7-30-13 we are on the second page. We have launched a blog in 2009 at http://www.websitepulse.com/blog, and post 2-3 times a week, and are working on new website now, and my question is what is your advice in our situation? Aside from providing fresh content and launching a new website is there anything specific we could do at this stage to improve our position for "ping test"? Thanks Lily

Fluctuating Rankings on "difficult" keywords
Hi guys, I have a client who wants to rank well for two very "difficult" keywords and eight easier ones. The easy ones are "treadmills + city" and the difficult ones are "treadmills" and "treadmill". We have got great traction on the "+city" keywords and he now ranks on page one for all those. However, we have noticed that although he ranks on page 2-3 for "treadmill" treadmills", those rankings fluctuate widely day to day. Rankings for the "+city" versions are stable, a rising slowly as I would expect. Rankings for the difficult keywords can be 235 one day, 32 the next week, 218 the day after that, then stable at 30ish for a week, then fluctuation again. I know Google update every day, but what are the likely causes of the easier keywords being stable, while the harder ones fluctuate? Thanks.

Keyword/Content Consistency
My question is: If you have a keyword that is searched more when it's spelled wrong then when it's spelled right - what do you do? Do you do the misspelled word or keep true to the spelling and say oh well to SEO? Also - Along the same lines of that question: What if you have a keyword that has a - in the middle of it. For instance: website and web-site (this isn't the keyword just an example). and drupal website is searched more then drupal web-site but wordpress web-site is searched more then wordpress website. Technically website is the correct spelling and way to write it, but people put web-site (again not the case in reality - just an example).

Should I Decrease My Keyword Density
On SEOmoz's On-page tool it is telling me that I should cut the number of phrases for a specific key phrase almost in half, from 27 to 15. However my keyword density for this page is only 1.68%. I would have thought that was a good keyword density to have, if not even a little higher. Should I trust the tool and decrease this keyword phrase? Would love to hear from anyone with experience in this. If you want to see the page it is http://www.mybluedish.com/. The key phrase is "satellite internet"

Keyword Ranking Question
I have recently hired a SEO company to help with our keyword. My question is what are the best tools to use to verify what that are reporting. I can do an unpersonalized search, but I am likely still getting the my local results. I have been using the SEOmoz rank tracker in the past but for some reason it is not able to retrieve results over the past day or so. Are there any other good tools to check ranking for an exact url at the for non-localized, non personalized results? Thanks for the suggestions.
